Hi everyone,
I recently parted with my Exige S and have decided the next car on the list should be a CSL. I did quite a few track days in my Exige but i also used it for touring (did France and Italy last year) and used it as a daily driver as long as it wasn't snowing. They are fantastic cars but are really in their element out on track and with more touring and daily driving on the horizon i'm hoping the CSL will prove to be a capable car on track but slightly more refined off it!
In terms of spec I'm after a SG CSL (although i'm not too fussed about colour) with Xenons and A/C. Ideally it would have FBMWSH and I want to warranty the car with BMW so either the car needs to be already on the warranty scheme or I at least need the option of putting a warranty on it. Mileage i'm looking at sub 60k and my budget is around 25k.
If anyone has any details please PM or email me.

Welcome to the forum :smokin:
Now a sub 60k mile CSL with that extras and full history for £25k might be a struggle. Especially with the current surge in interest on them.
Good luck with your search and a great choice :supz:

welcome and good luck with your search. seems like there is a big que for csl's in your criteria. been watching the market as keep thinking of selling mine but as we all know, selling in the next few years is not the sensible thing to do. got my eye on a few cars, and csl's are the only performance cars shifting. most good ones are gone within a week.
personally i think you need to up your budget for the criteria you mention (not just saying this as a current owner) and be quick when one comes up for sale .
you might get a black one for under 25 grand :blalalala:

Good luck with the search, I had an Exige S as well! The CSL is much better on the road and I can have my family with me to enjoy the noise.

It didn't take long for the first SG vs SB insult!!
Thanks for the advice, in truth I don't mind increasing my budget if the 'right' car comes along, although with few cars available at any time finding the 'right' car might be easier said than done. On the plus side, most CSL's i've seen that have been up for sale are well looked after examples and I get the impression owners in general take good care of these cars which is encouraging.
A few questions:
What's it like living with the SMG? I've read mixed reviews about it, but especially for those who use theirs regularly or as a daily driver is it any good when you're not trying to go fast?
Secondly is there anything in particular you should be looking out for when inspecting a CSL?
Also just out of interest, for those of you who have owned yours for a few years what have the market prices been doing? Did they bottom out a while ago and are on the way back up or have they remained pretty flat?

Pointless question as everyone is slightly different. Drive it is my advice.
My view is its fine in all arenas.

Lots to look out for, Im sure there is a buyiing guide on here.
Few small things to check.
General condition.
Check carbon on roof and splitters.
Service history, very important.
Boot floor cracks.
Try to trace owners and past of the car.
Oh and take someone who knows cars along with you to check it out before you buy it.

On the way up as far as I can tell, and only going further if the germany trip gets good publicity- that Shimmy is a very clever guy:smokin:

Steady !
I'll have them up to minimum £30k by 2015 and rising!
You just waiting until the Americans can buy them for their roads!
More seriously they bottomed out in 2008 according to the data. Steady since then to 2013 then now I think a slight upward slope especially for lower mileage ones :moan:

Hello and Welcome to the Register 'A-Mart'
Firstly it's usually the other way Round.
Recent trends in adds and sales would suggest a 40/50K miler will set you back c.£28K. Take care of them and they take care of you, and you reep the benefits when you sell.
SMG is livable for everyday use, you can always stick it auto if your in congestion, hit the open road and you'll love it.
Big thing with me is Service History has got to be spot on to tick the boxes, 15000mls. or 2 yearly between each service following the running in inspection.
Also preferred to come with the Extended Warranty. Taking out a new warranty can be expensive, better if you can take over an existing one.
Prices have been steadily rising since last September, however since Christmas there has been a more recent increase as they approach 10years old.
Good Luck with your quest.

imo SMG is fantastic, super smooth & auto has a direct link into your brain. Ok it is not as fast as twin clutch but that's the only thing imo. If this is not the case for someone they should be asking questions of themselves not the gearbox.
I'd like an interim oil change rather than just the 2yr/15k mile fuel countdown. Mechanically sound well maintained car is far more important than whether you can see stone dinks on the bumper. Warranty is peace of the mind.

I don't think it's possible to take over a warranty. Either it's pay monthly DD or pay yearly, either way it's a new contract when the previous owner stops paying.
The ideal would be to start up a new pay monthly warranty at 59,999 miles and keep the car for a while. But flip side is you will pay more for a sub 60k mile car in the first place.

I'm slightly worried that I "might" need to sell mine towards the end of the year (I'll be absolutly gutted if I do), need to free up some £££ and possibly the car might have to make way for this :banghead:
Lets hope the prices rise

If the car has a warranty in place when purchased, providing it has been paid for as an annual, then the policy is transferable that's what I did with mine. Which reminds me it's coming up for renewal next month:bigcry:

Yes, I bought mine privately with a newly renewed annual BMW warranty and just renewed it eleven months later.

Yes agree on the annual one. Although it's not transferred as such, the warranty is on the car regardless of who the owner is. That's what happened with me too.
I don't think you can transfer a pay monthly warranty from owner to owner.

Surely you would get the rest of the month and then just the payer's details would change. I cannot see how it would or should be any different as it is just the period of 'insurance' that is different (one month vs one year).

i bought my car 6 months ago,
the prev owner had a pay monthly warrenty and he informed mondial that the cart had been sold then they give you somthing like 2 weeks to call them and swap it over to your name, no start up fees you just take over the monthly charge.
sinse then i have had 2 small claims and no problem at all.:)

That's very useful to know... thanks for the info. Mine's also on monthly now.

I think the detail missing is that if the warranty is 're-started' or 'transferred' with details for the new owner, Mondial assess the cost based on current mileage, not the mileage when the old owner took it out.
This is significant only if the car ticks over 60k miles (or 100k) between the two owners.

Mine warranty is monthly and when i bought the car i had 14days to carry the warranty on from the previous owner also at the same money as what he was paying but i dont know if it stays the same if i was to sell and pass the warranty on over 60,000 but i know it stays the same if i go over the 60,000 , maybe some one could shed some light on this

I know and trust me "if" I have to sell I will be absolutly gutted :( If I explained why you'd 100% understand trust me... Worse thing is the money will be for someone else who needs it more than I need a car in the garage gathering dust.

You cannot transfer a pay monthly warranty from you to a new owner. They make you start up a new policy.
Ideally you need a car with less than 60k on pay monthly or fully paid for the year, if not get ready to bend over.

i belive that as long as you swap it over under 60k it will stay the same cost,
over 60k the monthly payments go up and up again over 100k
i got mine on 50k and its now on 56k ( i know a lot of milage in 6 months due to an alps trip !)
and this cost will stay the same as long as i own the car but i should imagine the next owner will have to pay more
that being i dont go through the pearly gates in it on fire !

When I bought mine the previous owner paid monthly & I had 14 days to take it over. That was nearly 2years ago so may have changed

I bought mine April '12 and transferring wasn't an option. You had to re-start and is based on current mileage. I think I may have got a letter inviting me to apply based on existing owner cancelling, but that's just marketing as far as I know.
Suggest a sticky on this one as it causes no end of confusion.

If you buy the car with a warranty in place, you are paying for the warranty within the asking price.
If the previous owner then cancels the warranty, then it's a bit of a poor do, particularly if you are not told that's what they have in mind when you purchase.
Comprehensive Warranty renewal is £860.48 whereas a New Policy is something like £1500.

Yes.
The old warranty was never cancelled, indeed I had some work done under the terms of the old warranty when the car was mine before it expired.
But when I wanted to extend it, I had to take out a new one, with my details and the car's details at the time.

When i bought mine, the owner called BMW (mondial) & said he was selling the car & would like to transfer the warranty.
I gave them my details & bank infoover the phone & mondial collected payments from my account the following month.
Car was on 76k & monthly fully comp zero excess warranty & is now on 84k with fully comp zero excess warranty @ £87 monthly.
did it have under 60k miles?
