Interested in people's pad choices. I'm running AP's all round and the pad material has kindly welded itself to my freshly refurbed wheels.
They were what came with the kit that I bought almost new. I'm guessing they are probably 2500's.

I've ran many different pads in various cars over the years and have formed my own opinions on what works but was just keen to see what other people were using to good effect with the CSL.

Suggestions of suppliers would be appreciated too.

Cheers, Gav.

lots of stuff to search on here about pads, reversing question around I would avoid due to deposits, DS3000 and mayb e PF01 (not quite so bad)

DS2500 ok for road use, RS29 and RS14 ok for road and track use, some guys use Carbon Lorriane, PF01 as good as RS29 but worse deposits

any recommended for road pads only?

I never had any problems with ds2500 on the road only, and unlike most race lads, no squealing, and just a medium amount of dust

RS29's all round in winter and summer....awesome pads.....fine on the road and awesome on track.

Never had squealing issues....

I've been through various pads for my car. I have APs all round, with just the AP calipers (not the discs) at the rear. I have found:

- The pads that came with the APs were no good for the track, but ok for the road.

- If you have standard rear discs with the AP calipers, the discs get hot on the track and ruin the pad. You need to upgrade and I now run DS2500s on the rear.

- I had a sorry experience with Pagid RS5s on the front, which kindly smeared themselves all over the discs on a trip to the Nurburgring.

- I am having a sorry experience with the PF01s that I am running on the front at the moment, which have excellent braking ability, but which have horrendous dust issues and no tang to attach to the anti-rattle clip (so they rattle around). I should have bought RS29's, as everyone on here recommended in the first place :banghead:

Are you sure you have the clip in the right way round (agreePF01 has way too much dust)

RS29......its the best all round pad...hammer them on track and are great for around town....

Standard BMW rear disks with AP calipers are fine for endurance racing with RS29 in, if you use proper pads on the front and ds2500 shite on the back the brake bias is moved to the detriment of braking stability IME.

As I can confirm :-D

You cannot go wrong with RS29 pads. Can we make this a law please?

Traction on or off?

Yes, yes, thanks everyone for pointing out my schoolboy errors. Personally, I've had no problem with braking stability on the track with the 2500s on the rear, but that's most likely because I'm lapping about a minute behind the nearest Suzuki Swift. :wanker:

I also rarely have the balls to drive with the traction off on track unless it's either (1) wet with lots of run off, in which case 'Dukes of Hazard' or (2) dry as a bone. I've heard that running with the traction on and triggering it will heat up the rear discs, but don't know if that's a forum myth or not and don't really care.

Shimmy, I put the PF pads in the other way round but made no difference. Spoke to AP and they reckon I need some kind of additional buffer to stop them rattling, but have now lost patience and car goes in to Elms in Feb for some TLC anyway, so hoping Gareth can work his magic.

Agreed!!! Same pad compound front and rear seems to work best.....

I second that proposal 'RS29' all round for me too. :supz:

And to gregorjp, yes traction on WILL over heat your discs,

Imagine driving down the road and constantly applyng braking, it builds heat very quickly in your brakes.

Traction off is far better for brake longevity.

Speaking as someone who rear ended his previous e46 M3 into a barrier on a straight road in icy conditions when the traction was (heroically) off, I now prefer to leave mine on to compensate for my incompetence.

RS29's for me also with the AP's. No squealing either.

But oddly I have RS29's on the GT3 too and they squeal like a bitch.

I've used DS2500 on track and never had an issue, even hammering the brakes at the end of the straight at Spa on a pretty warm day, no fading, no vibration. I have to admit that they do wear quickly.
