The scary thing is it was given the "all clear" by an indy around 8 months ago, the dealer showed me the cracks and they wernt new !

At least you've found the issue inside the 10 years..... Imagine getting the all clear and then finding the issue after the 10 year cut off...:banghead::banghead:

Likewise - mine has been in for a week already getting them done. 8 years old and glad it was checked before it's too late...

Thats good news that it's free Martin........Worry about my M3 as its over 10 years old this year so would not be free for me....NOt issues at the moment though.

I thought we concluded the 10 years thing wasn't actually backed up by anything written by BMW confirming that's the case ?

I thought we concluded the 10 years thing wasn't actually backed up by anything written by BMW confirming that's the case ?I don't think anyone with an E46 has had it done for free over the 10 year period, some over this time or with missing stamps have been asked to contribute towards the repair.

I'm only going by what I was told by the body shop that did mine.... They had a car 10 days over the 10 years and it was declined

I know of a person who had to pay all for a car over 10 years...

Anyone in the North with no warranty, Mike does a top job on this fix.
Without warranty it's not always covered now.

Does anyone know of all the cars repaired so far how many were trackday ones and how many were only road use ones :-D

Am I right that these cracks only appear after hard use ?
My 1999 323Ci Coupe had the cracks repaired free about £4k of work in 2007 after a Bruntingthorpe session earlier in 2006.
One 30k miles E46 M3 has had it done ....

Could be cracks on any E46 mate and not necessarily a car that has been on track or used hard.

No, mine was replaced and its never seen track & completely standard.

I think its just a bad design ?

I'd tend to agree..... Trouble is you can test a car for 50,000 miles but 5,6,7 years is far harder for a new model before its release...
I'm far more impressed with BMWs warranty or good will if you prefer on the whole subject.
I spent near enough a years wages buying my car and would've been heart broken had it not been covered under warranty

Would you be so kind to send me your VIN number, contact details and which dealership fixed your car ?
Here in Switzerland they are saying, there is no such problem on a CSL, period.

There's been quite a few on here with CSLs that have had the issue....
Plus I've messaged you

I checked my subframe today when i sold my M3, and it was fine, no cracks in it at all. It was a hard driven car with 140,000 and a couple of ring trips in it.
It strange, cause i was convinced it would be gone with the age of it.
Just shows you, you need not all panic, there are some out there that dont fail!
