5 owner GT cars

Looking at a GT2 that has had 5 owners.

Its a 2008 with only 16k miles. Full Porsche history.

First owner bought it and run for 3 months - Ive spoke to him and he did less thatn 1k miles. He said he couldn't handle the car after a Porsche Silverstone day (not in this car) and being an old fart didnt like this. Sold back to dealer for what he paid.

Second had til it was nearly a year old and 2k miles - I cant find him.

Third bought at a year old from Porsche dealer with 2k miles and run it for 1 year. Traded it against a Scuderia in 2010. Ive spoken to him and seems a genuine guy and has an amazing collection of cars - Ferraris / Lambos / 205 GTi / and another GT2.

Fourth bought it in 2010 with 4k miles, and sold a year later with 11k miles. He run it to France twice hence the 'big' miles. Again, spoke to him and seems a decent bloke who traded it for a Scud ( and has since traded that for a 650bhp GTr)

Fifth - I cant find but again, 1yr ownership and has traded against an R8.

Whats everyones opinion on this amount of ownership and whats it going to be like come resale considering Id be 6th keeper.

Thing is with cars like this people buy them to live the dream & then things change and have to move them on. As long as the service history / paperwork is complete number of owners wouldn't bother me :beer: great car!

This....or it's a tick in the box car. Many buying at this price point have a big selection of similar cars they're keen to sample...gt2, gt3,gt3rs, scud, Strad, R8 v10 etc. Only way to get into the next one us realising the $$

People buy these cars thinking there are for everyday use, not so, the pot holes round here would burst the tyres, buckle the rims and put me in hospital with a dislocated spine.:bigcry:

The Old Man had a 911 SC (2 Owner) in 78 when I was confined to the rear seat, not the place you want to be in your formative years.

He wanted one so he bought one and had the experience - he never bought another, to me that speaks volumes.

But as they say "If you've got an itch, scratch it" :supz: It's only money after all.

The you have to ask yourself.

If you were looking to trade in a 2008 997 GT2 with 16k on the clocks and 5 owners, the dealer WOULD knock loads off the price due to the no of owners. Its double standards , when buying/selling for them.

If this doesnt bother you, go for it.

Great cars, if its priced right personally the amount of owners would not put me off, simply because I am like them 5 previous owners of that GT2. I have an itch and I DO scratch it. :supz:

I bet it happens with CSLs as well....

I bought mine knowing nearly zero about them, to me they were a ltd edition expensive M3 (could be shot for that statement lol).
I'm a petrol head and wanted the best I could afford and had I bought a normal M3 for say £12k I'd have spent the other £12k playing with it or spent it on beer and hookers :beer:.

I've bought cars in the past and had them a few weeks and thought too myself I don't like this car and sold it on at a loss usually:moan:

The low owners cars are the ones to go for as a rule of thumb.

High owners mean the owner is less likely to have looked after it and he would generally avoid some big service stuff and be less interested in the long term health of the car

The high owner cars are shatters of the future

Not really true. As soon as I buy a car, first thing I do is FULL MAJOR service, I might then sell 3 months later, for no other reason than I am bored.

I did this with my C63 AMG. Full service, gearbox oils, diff oils, sparkplugs, airfilters, brake fluid, pollen filters, 3 wiper blades, geo the full works. It was immaculate. But I sold it 3 months later, to buy a more sensible diesel for her indoors.

But your reasoning is why lots regard high owner cars as worth less than a low owner car. Does not always mean anything though in many cases. Especially with high end/unusual stuff.

EXACTLY what I do with every car car I buy no matter what the service boom says, that way I KNOW where I am with the car...

The point is two cars in exactly the same condition and specification one low owners and one high owners. The low owners one is generally more desirable. Period.

I guess it depends on the owners too. I know someone who has had a performance car for nearly 6 years - it's been thrashed every single day of it's life, trackdays, used in the winter - the lot, doesn't mean it is a better car because of the low number of owners. Having said that - the market does seem to value low owner numbers at a higher price........I guess you do your due diligence on the owners and take it from there?

Yes I understand this thats why I pointed out to Bryce that if he was trading in such car as he is thinking of buying, the trader/dealer would kick him in the balls because of the high owners.

Some high owner cars will be cared for more than low owner cars but they are more the exception :-)
