I’d been thinking about changing my Nitron set up to Intrax, but after speaking to Dave (Pooky member on here who does this type of thing for a living) I changed my mind and decided to stay with Nitron and uprate the springs to 120/60 with a rear coilover, with tailored helper springs recommended by Dave.

Went for the upgrade this morning with Dave (Spires) and all was going well, until Dave tested my rear dampers after taking them off, they were fooked:bigcry:. The first 25% of movement had hardly any damping, a text and a phone call to Nitron later; I was the owner of some new spec dampers which Dave had there:supz:. Thanks Nitron and Dave for sorting this:thumbs:.

Afterwards everything went to plan, full set up, corner weight 50/50 both diagonals and Lawsy’s ex exhaust fitted.
All in all, great service from Dave (Spires) and Nitron.

Looking forward to my next TD to see how it goes:smokin:.

Most important question, does it sound better, and does it sound faster:partyman:

Deeper sounding under 3k, motorway speeds no different to oem:smokin:

I didn't notice a difference in performance only a knocking with rear seats out. Dave's buisness partner was horrified said it sounds like the piston is scraping against the body, lost gas pressure and they aint going back on the car until sorted:bigcry:I was ready to ring Sarah to pick me up.

have you got a picture of both the old rear springs?

They were barrel springs, Eibach.

If you want a pic still I'll post one.

they were separate to the damper though? I was just interested, AST explained and showed me what happened to my springs, thought you may have had a similar issue. I thought they were talking bollocks until they went through it. Suspension/set ups are way more complicated than you 1st think!!

Good work mate! Bet that exhaust sounds awesome!

Considering taking my rear seats out, is it mega noisy driving down the motorway?

What spring rates were you running prior to change over and what issues you were faced with on original set up?

80N/m front and progressive rear 45-82-110N/m standard mounting position.

No issues with the original setup other than the rear knocking, just wanted to try higher spring rates and whilst doing that went with the rear coilover.

What kit you running O'Neill?

I had a similar problem with my old Nitrons knocking at the rear, it's when you try and lower the car too much they knock.

No problems since i've changed to the rear coilovers too, car is so much better, I think I'm running the same spring rates as you.

How do you find the ride now?

Excellent O'Neil - keep us posted on how you get on with new set up.

I find this how knocking issue strange. Was this even on track or only on road (i.e. pot holes etc)?
What rubbers did you guys run on the separate springs? Did you run the OEM 5mm spring pad on bottom of spring (found at top on OEM CSL set up) and Nitron's 2mm rubber pad on top of height adjuster?

The knocking I had wasn't to do with ride height or springs, it was the rear dampers.

The noise was within the damper, hence the dampers being replaced.

Dave (pooky) might elaborate as I don't have a clue about the internals of dampers:119:

Good to hear the noise is all fixed now, let us know how you think it feels on Saturday.

Could be a few reasons for the rear damper knock, I'll let Nitron understand what's happened and report back.
