Afternoon all,
Yes i'm still here and yes i still have Cecil, just been a bit busy recently!
I've had an intermittent EML warning light issue, resulting in limp mode. It's happened on cold startup, warm startup and whilst driving along.
Took it in to BMW Battersea today and the guys have had a look at it.
Apparently the car has recorded misfires on cylinders 2 and 5. The technician has suggested it needs two coil packs and a MAP (maybe MAF) sensor. Because however these items are recording faults, it won't be covered under warranty.
The guys are being really helpful and i can't fault their service. They've come up with a couple of ideas and ways they might be able to get it past BMW (such as resetting everything, taking the car for a quick drive to get it to retrigger the faults and bringing it straight back), but on the basis it's intermittent, this might not work.
Anyone else had similar?

I cannot understand why these items won't be covered under warranty (not knowing which warranty you have) as if they are recording faults, then they are broken, and if not recording faults, the car is faulty and needs fixing irrespective of what is recording or not!!! None of these items are wear and tear items I do not think.
Also CSL doesn't have a MAF so go to Elms instead and get a proper M Tech on it.

Coil packs are covered under warranty, unless you don't have it with BMW:smt102

AH well it won't be the MAF then, just something that sounds like it...
Apparently, the coils aren't recording faults, misfires are being recorded and the technician believes that these are being caused by the coils. Without the coils recording faults, their hands are tied.
Battersea have always looked after the car and done a good job. I know people swear by Elms, but that's a mission from me when Battersea is a mile from home! They also look after other CSLs and have come across the problem before.
Just wanted to see if anyone else had had a similar problem. (mechanical not warranty).
I'm on the full insured BMW warranty, 53,000 miles. Zero excess.

The Bremi coils are rubbish anyway, I'd just bite the bullet if still on them and put a full new set in.

Worth noting to everyone.
EML are becoming MOT failure end of Nov.
SRS/airbag came in at beginning of Oct.
Regarding your car, get a comp test done. Misfire logs can be sometimes down to hg failure.

Thanks Lawsy, will discuss this with them when they call back.
Interesting re the EML & MOT failure.
Presumably this is different to the yellow engine block which is the emissions warning light? Mine come on intermittently due to the Supersprint cats...

Is a throttle position sensor.

OK. Coils have been switched over from the two misfiring cylinders to two that are ok.
If the problem reappears on those cylinders, that'll be justification to have them changed.
Let see what happens.

My man was telling me any engine lights or eml/mil lights are to become a failure.
Let us know how you get on.

Hmm, might have to take the bulb out then, or just make sure i take it when it's not on. Apparently it works on average emissions over a certain number of starts...
Picking the car up tomorrow, couldn't get there tonight, will let you know how it goes.

Taking bulb out won't work, lights need to come on then go off.
