How often do you service your AP callipers.

I'm just getting mine done, again and again there is an issue, albeit a small one :(

I know you are meant to get them serviced if they get to a certain temp but I'm guessing not many do send them off to get them serviced.

Jim will tell you the temps....

I voted once every 2 years for full strip.

But I used to thoroughly clean them on the car every couple of months.

Just sold my Alcon kit off my car and they are still like new.

I have done my fronts once in 72k miles and rears never in 65k miles.

I have a problem with one of the rears, I am waiting for a call back to find out exactly what's happened, but I do remember Jim telling me they need to be serviced if they hit a certain temp.

That is a lot of track days Shimmy, I would be getting them checked out. I think its about 2 years since I had mine done with only a couple of hard days use, that's why I'm a bit peeved something happened to the back ones.

I only sent them off again as the pads were hard to get in, the pad retainers and calliper had a bit of corrosion in between, which pushed the retainer enough to make it tighter, maybe due to lack of use.

Regular use is the best thing for them, your pistons will never be in the same position for any length of time. Smacs problems will be because his caliper piston is exactly the same position it was in 3 yrs ago, whereas yours will have been through 5 sets of pads in this time.

Moral of my post, Steve needs to sell his car as it doesnt move:blalalala:

I think both calliipers and dampers are the same, both benefit from regular use.

I will get rears serviced this winter with a full spanner check.

I voted every 2 years, but they get a good inspection when changing the pads

Not done mine yet after 4 years of having them and they are still fine - touch wood!

My car hasn't been used much this year, however, so i may look into getting them done for next year.

Going to get mine serviced this winter as part of my tidy up of the car, they have only been on the car 2 years, but I bought them 2nd hand so it's probs worth giving them a once over.

I'd service if I was getting uneven pad wear or binding.

From what I have deduced with the APs, regular use seems to keep the seals working and lubricated and regular fluid change keeps the nipples working and prevents them from rusting up. Garaging also probably helps and not being at the salty seaside also.

How do you know they are operating properly, you may stop, but they may not be right

Yep agreed, but how many check the inside pads?

I have had loads of brake fluid changes in the last 2 years, that sides fine, you should really bleed after every track day to get new fluid in.

I think it's more to do with lack of use, it is garaged but I'm not sure that helps, if it goes out and gets wet, then put back inside then I think this is where they start to lock up and the pad retainers get corroded behind the strip, Ive been told this just happens and there's not much that can be done unless they are used, weekly at least, it may all be bollocks but that's what Ive been told by the mechanics
