I know I might get crucified for posting this but...
Does anyone / endorse / use another brand of 10w-60 other than Castrol Edge FST in their engine? I haven't got an issue with Castrol but their must be other (possibly better) oils out there??
Go on then chastise me for my ignorance!!! ;)

I looked into this last week (I'm an aftermarket parts manager), I can get Mobil 1 10w60 hugely cheaper than Castrol and thought about it but decided to go with BMWs recommended oil. After all the oils a small price to pay in the grand scheme of things..

If you have a warranty I'd not use any other oil, if you don't have a warranty I'd not use any other oil. :D

It's not the price of the Castrol Edge thats an issue, I have used Millers Race before and it is supposed to be a very good oil, mates have run Royal Purple (Which is horrendously expensive!!) but again a race oil. Just wondered what other options there were.
So far other oils 0, Castrol Edge 2!!!:hahaha:

Track down 'giraffe' he's done a few posts on oil and use of, I think he's a tech at Elms responsible for CSL servicing.

The castrol 10-60 is a really good oil, known to work perfectly, so why chose anything else?
A friend of mine, who is also a beemer nut/mechanic, uses the BMW M oil in his Honda integra race car:hahaha:

SteveI bet you can't get Mobil 1 cheaper than Eurocarparts are doing Castrol 10w/60 at the moment with their discount codes.;)

If you stick to using what it says in the Handbook 'Castrol Edge' and if it goes wrong it's their fault. As most of us are on an Extended Warranty, as was previously mentioned, you deviate at your own risk which could end up being a very costly exercise.
Personally I would like to use a 15-60type that has a bit more substance to it, but there again what do I know I only drive it, if it goes wrong it's their problem to sort - thankfully!

No point on skimping for such a cheap consumable..

My local BMW dealer use Shell Helix Ultra Racing 10W60 rather than Castrol. Same grade, so should be equivalent, and as we all know, the BMW/Castrol thing was always a total stitchup anyway...
