Like so many of you on here I have always wanted one and stupidly never done it. So the time has come...

Am on the hunt for a 30kish miles SG with all the options, and a full bmw service history so that i can put a warranty on it. I don't plan to track it and only drive at the weekends. And maybe ferry the kids around at the weekend if the other car is not available. There will be strict rules if they are coming in the car. I will also need to check that I can 2 child seats in the back!

With help from all if you on here I have managed to do a lot of reach of what to look for and which kind of cars to avoid.

So if anyone has any ideas pls shout!

There are a few at NJ that I might pop over to have a look at to get an idea of condition price etc. Does anyone know LJ54 PFJ?

Thanks

The car comes with two sets of ISO fixing in the back for child seats, some o us have removed them and replaced with eyes for full harness belts, Have you not looked at a black one more suttle :), good luck with your search and hope you get on track one day and find out what the car was made for

Hi Tinker and Welcome.
Not the most child friendly of cars in my opinion, very easily marked and scuffed getting children in and out could be very difficult given preservation of the front seats.

LJ54 PJF - See: http://www.cslregister.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9206

If you want to know PM me.

Agree, I'd treat the rear seats as rare use only really. If you want to protect the front ones anyway, they are that delicate.

Thanks for the advice... as and when they do venture into the back I have a couple of seats protector things that i will use... maybe stick a blanket or something across the back to avoid any kind of damage. I went to have a look at one today that Hexagon BMW have... 40K!!!! they have someone coming down to look at it today. CL04 CSL was the plate i think... i am sure it was on eBay of all places about 3/4 months ago... it was in decent condition as you would expect for 20k miles... but that is def the wrong price! But it was good to go and have a look around the car to get an idea of size etc again... given the seats are so lean there is plenty of room in the back but I will have to be careful as you say...

Remember that many of them can now only have 1 year warranty added before they hit 10 years old, from that point no more renewal with BMW.

If you want to use the back seats regularly get an e9x IMO, the plastic bit in the middle of the back seats will split, the backs of the front seats mark very easily and access to the back isn't great.

I may be wrong, sorry! Still think e9x is better for getting kids in the back though.

Love that!!!
They won't be in the back all of the time. Maybe once a month maximum, and my youngest is still in a rear facing seat so that should protect the back of the fronts seats for now... Are those child seats pretty narrow? Or do you also get a lot of scratches on the centre console and has it even split like others suggest...?

Had both of mine from when born in the car so dealt with rear facing. Was a bit of a palava getting them in and out when on your own but once worked out, it was fine. Trying to recall when I just had the one, I used to leave the seat in there and then take her out, put her in the front seat and then remove the car seat. Used to get a few strange looks from others and the mother in law wholly disapproved. When it was both of them, it got a little more difficult but it's a weekend car for us so we worked around it for the sake of how many times we used it. When one was in the front facing, I then used to put the baby into that seat, me squeeze in and then transfer to rear facing etc. etc. You have to love the car to go through it :smt055

No scratches and no splits :-D

Without a doubt it would be easier - having seats that fold would of been a bonus - but I couldn't compromise on the csl - if anything I would of rather no kids in it than to have to sell it lol. Internet shopping ftw!

Mine has scuffs on back of seat but I put my 2 yr old in back so at least I didn't start the scuffing! The recaro young sport is a pain to get in and I have to feed it between the fronts. Cslgirl where did you get those seats? Struggling to find a seat big enough for my daughter that still has 5 point? I'm not going to booster for as long as poss!

+1

I thought BMW Insured Warranty lasts how ever long u want with the caveat that the BMW Insured Warranty Extensive Cover is up till 100k mileage.

I am not sure how long Named Component cover lasts till.

Driveline Cover there is no mileage or age restrictions.

It is it carrys on as long as you want it to upto 100k, there never used to be a restriction on it M3 E36 had it upto 125k but then things changed, going by the previous owners receipts for the E36 im not surprised to be honest.
