I wonder how long it takes for CSL values to overtake GT3's shouldn't be long.

Well put it this way, when the opportunity arose to buy an RS a part of me thought the CSL would become redundant. On that sunny day when you choose which one to take out, you'll always pick the RS? Its been the car to own, my must have for years so why wouldn't I. TBH I think I was hoping that would be the case as I have nor the time to drive or the space for both. and with the world how it is now it just feels naughty to have two silly cars. Especially ones you dont have time to drive.

That aside Ive used some man maths and since values are fairly solid I can keep both. :-D

From that I guess you can conclude that I just cant bring myself to sell Cesil. I think if one had to go it would be the porsche.

Yes the porsche is more of an event to drive, the colour, roll cage, harnesses etc the fact that you cant drive 10 yards without a camera phone coming out. and of course its faster. It picks up speed in such a linear way with less drama than the csl that before you know it your going silly speeds. (Then you remember that the front splitter is 300 quid and the UK roads are crap) So you slow down :-D

This is when the CSL comes into it own.... Firstly its covert. As you know you can drive round it and to most people its just a 3 series. and from the educated you get the knowing nod. and it just wants to be driven fast, soaks up most things that british roads throw at it. Where as in the RS you find yourself backing off more.

A mate summed it up perfectly. The GT3 is like a fine lady and needs a bit of respect and a smooth entry....unlike the CSL that shouts 'Do me up the shitter' :-D

Of course the RS manages to make the CSL feel a bit soggy (thats probably a little harsh tough), the RS's steering is so pin sharp. I havent tracked the RS yet but around roundabout down the council estate  the RS changes direction far quicker than the CSL.

All this is no bad thing for the CSL though, it just adds to the character. Even after my first weekend in the RS. I still found myself wanting to take the CSL for a blast down some local roads. The noise :smt055

I could probably rabbit on forever about which is better. I personally dont think one is better than the other. They serve different purposes to me. but in my mind 10 years on the CSL definitely doesnt get shown up by the beatle in the orange frock... :smokin:

Thanks for posting, and glad to hear the old motor doesn't get shown up too badly. Best of luck with the Porker, stunning car :)

Cheers. I was reading your posts on ph in the 1m thread. Have to agree mind. I had a lengthy test drive in a 1M and jumping back in the CSL after it just felt more exciting. Everything turned up a notch.
1M was brilliant and I'd love one but not as a Sunday morning look forward to getting out the garage type car. If I had to have only one car (daily/track/b road/road trips) the 1M is probably the one I would pick. As a driver car - CSL no question.

Yeah, I've been posting over there too much for my own health! I can understand they all love their 1Ms and are getting a bit defensive, so I don't want to get into an argument over it. But from my (albeit limited) experiences of the 1M, it's a great daily car with a dollop of added excitement. I've been in V8_Andy's one and it is indeed a lovely motor, but if I was ever going to shift on the CSL the replacement would probably have to be a 911 in either 964 RS or 996/7 GT2/GT3 form

Thanks for the write up!

Did you consider a 7/GT2 in the process?

I didnt view any but I did look at them on ph and do the usual reading up. I would like to own one at some point, The mad straight line poke appeals. However I had to tick the GT3 box first.

Congrats and lovely colour too

Great write up below, although in a non RS GT3 myself thats exactly how I would put down the differences.

You need FAR more respect in all GT3's and it's like learning to drive all over again, and it's been a fun journey getting to grips with how they handle... get it out on track, its just a mental thing when you get it all hooked up right, done Spa / Ring and Silverstone in mine and since then the car feels more alive to drive daily ..

Thanks Daz. Yes agreed I dont feel any where near as confident in the GT3. (Havent tracked her yet mind) Had a couple of twitchy moments on the road to remind me im not in the M3. :-D

Any regrets moving from the CSL to GT3? Mines currently forsale also and everyday I think im making a mistake. Life moves on though need to try new things. Im thinking I might replace it with a 1M in 12 months or so when ill need another more usable car daily to run with the RS.
