Morning All,
Quick post to pass some time and gain some knowledge.
When braking full force with 265 r888 all round in full fat m3 runing 356mm ksports and blue stuff pads on heaving braking tracks (bedford) i find the initial bite great and linear, However on the back straight i find you have to push the brake exponentially harder to get it to stop at max rate. Is this a function of the pads, increased grip, faulty brake survo?
At brake friendly tracks like donny i had no issues and brakes were great.
What do you rekon? K-Sports showing their budget? Should i go for RS29 instead of Blue? Ive used EBC on my last two track cars but they were both about 350kg lighter than my m3 so perhaps the blue's are a little out of their depth with the weight?
What you rekon?

Loads of mixed reviews on the bluestuff ndx. Most think they are shite.
Get some pagid rs or carbotech xp in there.

Like the man says, dump the EBC. Not meant for heavy cars.

rs29's on the way. i still got a little life left on the blue so might do back to back comparison.

Will it be ok to keep blue on the rear and rs29 on the front? I just cant bring myself to spend over £500 of a set of pads....

Changed my mind and gone for Carbon Lorraine RC6 compound.
I also had a strange judder / wobble at Donington which is really distracting. I think i have a wheel in-balance, but also on the weekend when i got the brakes hot a small amount of brake judder started.
Hoping this is just contamination from over working the blue stuffs that the RC6 will clear at silverstone. Sound plausible?
We shall see.
Thanks for the advice.

I would recommend keeping pad compound the same front and back, I found under heavy braking the rear of the car starts skipping and squirming if the rear pads are more road biased.
You may well have deposits on the discs and they may well clear with harsher compound pads, but no quarantine. The high temps on the front seem sometimes to coat it in pad deposits (uneven) and they can be permanent.
On a plus side there re not many trackdays when sometime during or after, I don't think that the pads/discs/dampers/tyres/bushes are goosed and panic, but it all seems to calm down on the trip home.

Yes sticking with front and rear RC6. £370 so significant saving on the Pagids and the reviews seem very good.
The fact the wobble gets worse when brakes are warmer is probably not a good sign. Everytime ive had this in the past, new discs was the only way to go. However these discs only have 2 days and about 3k on them from new so i hope thats not the case.

But maybe the price you pay for using cheap cheese pads

That sounds great. Could you send me his details?
I will try the new pads first as this symptom is just starting.

It will be the discs with the old pads. Best off getting new performance friction one's.
Extra dosh but work well with RS29. Also for rear there is no difference between OEM rear discs or AP's.

If It's brake pad deposits, sand disc wid paper to clean em up before fitting new pads.If You have aluminium bells torque the wheels to 120nm don't airgun them.then pump brake couple tims and turn wheels. If You get a scraping noise all way round Ya discs Ok but If it scrapes then quiet Ya discs May be out.try that.

Sure ill give it a go. As i say its only slight vibration and when warm at the moment. Wont stop me doing a trackday. That disk skimmer bloke sounds pretty good. I rekon new pads will probably sort. Ill put them in this weekend and see. Not got anywhere around here to get em hot though :S
Yes torque to 120nm.

One other observation i had. When i was getting a bit of judder, and i backed off i could hear a pulsating sound from what i thought was the rear. So it could be that its a rear disks that needs skimming. When disks cooled pulsating disappeared. Ill take it all to pieces this weekend and have a good look.

Here's my cautionary tale - at the DN6 event earlier this month, I had Pagid RS5s on the front APs. I had had a couple of recommendations to use them and couldn't source RS29s on time. As Shimmy says, the pads literally smeared themselves all over the discs when they got hot and caused a judder that became so bad that I had to abandon the track. I called AP directly, who diagnosed the problem (RS5s would only be ok for lighter work, they said). They then gave me details of somewhere near the 'ring to go and get the discs skimmed. Also ended up replacing the pads with Performance Friction items (these were APs recommendation). Brakes are now awesome. Downside is that the pads rattle around because (I think) there is a problem with the anti-rattle clip.

In backwards or upside down. I've done both :)

Further to Shimmy's post I have just got hold of some RS29s from Questmead and notice they have red tips on the normal yellow background (only on one end obviously). Does this denote the top or bottom and if so which way is which.
To be honest I thought they were alright either way up.

Found the source of my pulsating brake pedal.
Wheel bearings.
Got quite bad at silverstone. Will be nice to get back on track with new pads and proper bearings and see how i get on.
Carbone Lorrain RC6 so far are excellent. Just need a nice dry trackday to test properly.
