Gutted for you mate. Sorry to see this.

WTF is wrong with people that they dont hold their hands up to this kind of stuff ?

Winds me up when people don't take responsibility. Sign of times I spose.

Take comfort that what goes around comes around. Most people that have crossed me gave been crossed back twicefold. Cnuts.

Looks like a bit of body repair and a wheel refurb. Might want to do all or them or at least one side!

Shame mate but not too bad by the look of the pictures.

That's the thing whoever did it must have known they hit my car, I parked it miles from anyone else too...

Not the first time i've had it done and been hit and run, my old M3 someone mullered the side and never left details either.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, I'll get them all done I think at once, may as well get the front bumper painted at the same time as I noticed a new load of stone chips as I was washing it earlier.

I am properly gutted, car was looking stunning today after a nice clean and wax too :(

No CCTV, checked at the pub, police were called so I have a crime number.

I would be on the lookout but it happened about 30 miles from home, so wasn't local...

Well i'd be doing some detective work anyway. Might be an idea to call a few local body shops in the area on monday or better still do you know anyone local to the area it happened in the motor trade.

That's not a bad shout, i'll do that, one of my best mates lives up that way, so he said he'll keep an eye out, he's a petrol head too so he's going to have a swift butchers round some of the body shops in the week.

Fcuk mate, that's not cool at all. Sorry to hear that, you after getting the suspension done and all. I suppose getting that checked over might be a good call since your man rubbed against your wheel. What a walloper!!!

I've heard stories of witnesses coming forward afterwards and leaving a note on your car saying 'I spotted someone hitting your car, reg number such and such, call for further details' no such luck this time though? :-(

Sorry to read that... :-(

I am always worried of those things when I leave my cars.

Some people just don't care and should not drive at all.

Hope everything gets sorted quickly.

Cheers,

Alex

Just got back from seeing my friend, he got his mate over who runs a bodyshop who have a superb reputation.

Basically he said it would be £1k to get the damage repaired, this would involve the panel being beaten back out etc.

He said he wouldn't advise a new panel being fitted as lose the originality on the car.

Obviously wheel refurb on top, plus he said he can do the front bumper (stonechips) and re-lacquer the front using a ceramic clear coat lacquer which will be better and tougher than the OEM so I'm going to get that done at the same time.

Yeah he confirmed there was some filler there, not good!

That was an expensive pub dinner :banghead:

£1k repair my arse.

Ask him if he thinks filler keeps originality?

If he charges 1k and he does front end then that's an ok price, but 1k for rear quarter repair?

How much do you reckon I should be paying Shane?

The garage the guy works for is good, almost too good, they have a contract with McLaren to do their bodyshop repairs, so might explain the inflated price.

It was only the first quote so i'll get a couple more this week.

At the end of the day I want it done right, as the car has always been a keeper for me.

Really sorry to hear the news more so when it is your pride and joy. I was peed off just to see my wife's car get a scrape on the front bonnet by some pikey wagon that had reversed out of a space in Tunbridge Wells High Street. That was just a scrape that caused a small dent but did not scratch the paint work deeply whilst yours...:bigcry:

Hopefully they were drunk and flipped their car over on the way home.

There is such little honesty these days.

I hope it all gets sorted out soon for you.

Pip

In a moment of ill-placed courage, I switched the DSC off on my old E46 in the winter, which culminated in me scraping the car down the barrier of a dual carriageway. Embarrassing.

The damage was similar to the pictures that Phoenix posted (including rear quarter panel and damaged wheels). I also lost my rear bumper. It was an insurance job, and cost £4,500 (including VAT) to repair. When finished, it looked perfect. On that basis, I agree that £1k sounds fearfully cheap.

Going to go to 3 bodyshops in the morning to get some more estimates.

BMW Main Dealer, another place who have an amazing reputation and then to another bodyshop I know who did some work on my old Phoenix Yellow M3 so will know more tomorrow, plus have a better idea of what fix is best, filler or a complete panel and if I'm going through insurance or not.

Ouch that sounds like an expensive crunch, you must have had a new rear quarter panel for that price.

I will ask the guy who does my painting, just for a gauge, he is a perfectionist and is more than others so should be a good indication for you Toby. You don't want to change a wing!! you didn't know it was repaired before so you shouldn't be able to tell if its done right this time.

I would of said 1k for front bumper, wing and wheel refurb would be somewhere close.

24-09-2012, 05:08 PM
off topic Toby but could you send me your ride heights and settings? I'm going to AST in a couple of weeks to go through the process you went through with Nitron. I would like to keep OEM ride height.

Thanks Steve, really appreciate it, that would at least give me a ball park figure to work on and then decide if i'm going to pay cash or go via the insurance.

Although I *may* of been guilty of nearly taking off a dolly Citroen front bumper when I first passed my test....

Had some more quotes today, I think everyone round here is a rip off!

£950, £1000 and £1150 all cash quotes, more to go through insurance.

The other place I saw recommended a new panel etc, but then they do a lot of restoration work rather than straight fixes, £4k :clown:

The guy who does repairs for ourselves charges us £65 per panel.

He would pull as much as he could out then small amount of filler. Paint rear quarter. I could get that repair done for £300.

Even our fully Merc approved bodyshop I reckon wold repair that for £500-£600 tops.

Agreed. I'd charge £400-£450 in my bodyshop.....................if we repaired modern cars...........which we don't.

Just got my final quote through...

£588 all in, looks like a nice bodyshop, modern etc, though an unknown in terms of I have no idea if they are any good at all.

I hate things like this as it's a lottery if they will get the car looking as it was

If your not happy don't pay until its right.

That price is far more reasonable.

Yeah that's what I thought Shane, going to go for it, have explained to him that I expect it done properly and that any work on the car is not noticable and he agreed that, and that if there were any problems they would rectify it before I hand any £££ over.

Bonnet painted

This was all done through BMW and come in @ £870 + Vat
