Hi! New member here, i'm Dan from Edinburgh I drive a E46 M3.

http://i532.photobucket.com/albums/ee330/Dan-Dillinger/PICT0437-.jpg

I'm thinking about selling the car to buy a CSL.

The price of them seem to vary a lot! I was wondering if anyone on here could perhaps give a rough value of the car i'm going to look at?

It is a 2003 model, no xenon headlamps, it does have the BMW business stereo, PDC and also climate control. The owner has just put extended BMW warranty on it with road side assistance (for one year) The car has covered 47,000 miles and is completely standard.

I've been told theres a slight scuff on one of the bumpers and the back tyres will need replacing soon.

Heres a quick photo of it :)

http://i532.photobucket.com/albums/ee330/Dan-Dillinger/csl.png

Can anyone give me a rough price of what this might be worth?

Thanks!

Hope to be a proud owner soon!

As a buyer I would want to pay sub £23k as a seller I would want £25k.

What's it for sale for?

With the CSL not having the optional xenon headlamps would this have a big effect on the resale? It doesn't bother me at all personally.

The owner has still to come back to me with a price :)

Some say yes, some like you are not bothered. I wasn't bothered, it cost me 200 ish notes to fit a set.

What do you think you want to pay for it?

Without xenons you may limit audience but IMO it won't knock more than £500 off the price.

I would rather a car with no xenons an good than xenons and a shed.

I would say that xenons and PDC have slight effect on the numbers interested in buying the car, therefore you may take a bit longer to sell and depending when you sell this may mean you end up dropping the price more.

Worse for air con and overall car condition though as Lawsy so rightly says.

You had to go non-Xenons to offset boot pasty weight though mate...

PH comparison.....same spec and slightly less miles.

Thats ok.

I'd pay the "going rate" for it! I think 24 - 25K ish sounds ok! I want to have a good look over it and make sure its perfect! I'm not too bothered about the bumper scuff, I can have that painted.

Anyone think it could be a good investment? I can't see the prices dropping too much! I don't really do a lot of miles anyway and I never use the car for work!

Has anyone ever went from a E46 M3 to a CSL? Much noticeable difference?

Interesting that most of the sub £25k SG cars (aside from 1 cat d) on PH are all 57k+ miles. Though there are a couple of pikey black ones with lower miles. Amazed how the asking prices have held up in this economy.

I paid £25k, 3.5 years ago at 47k miles. It had just had Insp 2, new boots all round and 12m renewed warranty (so about £2.5k worth) same spec as you're looking at - except I have Xenons but no PDC.

No investment, but pretty cheap motoring.

This is a quote I found whilst looking for mine.

Found this in a Bmw mag.Mere superlatives are actually not good enough to emphasise just how good the M3 CSL is in the metal, how deliciously deranged it sounds at high revs and what an amazing experience it is to drive one of them.It is certainly worth the extra money over a standard E46 M3, and once you have sampled an M3 CSL, i guarantee that it will take hold of your very soul and it wont let go.:supz:

good luck on this hope its the car etc you want :)

IMHO its a CSL and if it grabs you somewhere get it! I know its a great car and noone can deny it and I think at the end of the day as long as its not stupidly over priced then go for it :) and the extras can always be fitted as stated in the previous posts already :) but at the end of the day lights etc will be the last thing you be thinking of with the window open and a certain noise echoing around :P

as Shimmy said when I was looking for my CSL back in Jan and I quote

Over priced, under priced, the only thing that matters is what the buyer pays.

Hi Dan,

Massive difference.

I went from this

http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh252/0836whimper/Misc/Front.jpg

to this

http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh252/0836whimper/Misc/M3CSLDistancePS.jpg

I had both for a while before I sold the carbon black one, so was able to do lots of comparison.

The weight loss makes it so much more alert and sharper and more responsive. It's a totally different car really. Also, I had the SMG set on 5 all the time on the M3 and never used sport mode (too sensitive). On the CSL I keep it at 3, more than enough, and sport is fine, not too sensitive and is where all the fun is.

It is a different league of driving experience, one test drive was all it took for me to be hooked. Above 5k revs and in sport on a sighted country road is something else !
But I personally wouldn't commute in one, a bit too raw for that.

Before buying I would recommend getting this M3 CSL looked over by a BMW Dealer to give it the once over ?

M3 CSL is a great road car a great BMW ....

When I bought my csl i thought its handling was excellent on road, when I was removing the front struts to fit my kw coil overs I found the front springs still had the nylon transport blocks jammed in them, the car had Been pdi'd twice at main dealers and had a few services and an mot at different main dealers and still they weren't spotted.

It's best to do your homework and get all over the car yourself in my opinion, or get one of the Scottish boys to go with you(mark will go if you buy him a kfc)and let them take a look at it with you.

So is that a one off or are most BMW Dealers incompetent with PDI ?
The PDI is a BMW Approved Used Car Check.

Then there are the practical limitations of getting one of these guys from Scotland down south ....

Missed the fact he's in London!.

It was two main dealers that would have pdi'd my car, one in Glasgow where it was bought new, and one in Stirling where I bought it.

Recognise the plate - a dealer in Edinburgh had this one for sale on behalf of a client for ages. The owner wouldn't budge on the price which was about £26.5k IIRC. The owner had a few cars in his collection apparently. I was going to look at it early this year but the sales guy didn't seem interested in making much effort. Sounded like a decent car though.
