Took my car to BMW High Wycombe at the weekend; contemplating a 1M. Goddam it's a nice thing. Small, darty, sounds great and feels bulletproof. Was taken on the test drive by a saucy young salesgirl (which didn't help). What really stood out was the torque - much more than my old 997 and triggered the traction light easily in the dry.
Was highly tempted until they offered £13k as a trade-in for my car...:wanker:

Surely that is the trade in price for an 'ordinary' M3 not the CSL. Maybe "saucy sales girl" was showing her down side.
The 1M is ugly though.

I had the pleasure of taking one to Monaco and back (via 2 days hooning around in the Alps) and I have to say it was magnificent. Not as visceral as the CSL though in terms of driving experience.
The 1M might only have a few more horses than my 135 but it felt a lot more urgent with the overboost feature. Very quick in gear due to the epic levels of Torgue but having had a turbo charged car for 3 years now I am looking to go the other way and get back into something NA.

I'll offer you 13k gladly all day long for a real csl . Even to me that's absurd no matter the mileage.

Apparently they classified it as an "auction car" because it has 60k miles on it, AP's all-round and what they classified as an "aftermarket" audio system but what I would call a particularly expensive upgrade.
They overlooked the service history, the amount of cash I've thrown at fastidiously maintaining it, its good condition and the fact that the cheapest one on Pistonheads is a CAT D for £23k.
So are selling the CSL private and buying the 1M or keeping the Cecil?
I do like the 1M but I think it would be one of those cars that you get bored of in six months.
CSL is only car i have owned and not once considered selling it!
+ 13k part ex price...! Bet you were looking for Jeremy Beadle to pop out

Believe me, you wouldn't get bored of a 1M unless you drove like Miss Daisy. To me it is the modern day CSL in terms of it being limited edition, aggressive and very rewarding to drive. Not as good on track but possibly better on the road. I think it is a better option for a daily drive as mine is, but wouldn't be so special as a 2nd car unless you started to play with it.

Agree, Terry. 1M is a better road car than the CSL, less revvy, more creature comforts. Brakes will no doubt be shit - didn't get chance to give them some abuse on test drive.
Quietly hatching a plan to persuade the missus to allow me to subsidise her work car allowance so she can chop in the family A3 when the lease runs out in February = a 1M and a CSL and no dilemma.

That's almost the perfect combination, just missing a GT3 from the fold :)

1M is a better road car / daily drive but I think we would all agree the CSL is not an ideal daily drive. It should live on the track !
IMO and I will get stick for this! The 1M is a bit of a ladies car!
I would have a 2nd porker GT3 - similar money / no brainer

yes maybe better road car, but then i would just buy 3er diesel. thats an awesome road car too. i wouldnt need a 1M for everyday use. 1M is a bit expensive for everyday use especially in town, 17- 18 liter / 100km .

I'm sure the 1M is a superb car, not been in one on the road yet, but I bet it's addictive......but still feck ugly!

They look great on the road, far better than in pics.
Don't like turbo cars though, the delivery of both the csl and the e90 m3 is so much nicer than my wife's 335i, need to drive a 1m but that aspect really puts me off.

I thought the only good side of the 1M was its looks ! For what quite clearly is a car that should have a big engine and not a turbo 6 cyl.

But it's one heck of an engine, especially remapped. 415/475 from a remap with no mods and 30mpg on a long journey.
It makes a great daily drive. Yes you could get much more economy from a 3 series diesel, but no where near the same amount of fun. I'm sorry, I've driven a number of different diesel 3 series and fun they are not.
I've actually been offered a 24 hour test drive of the new 320d Sport and going to do it out of curiosity :)

In all fairness if you drive like a girl, cruise control at 70 you can get pretty much the same from an e9x M3. 29.4mpg from mine when I tried it just to see what it would do, newer DCT one would be better still.
