Is fooked...
Takes ages to change channel, won't live pause properly and if replaying something recorded, keeps freezing, starting, freezing (repeat x100000).
Sky charge £60 tech call out to look over and if faulty then charge for a new box..
Is it just me that thinks this is a con ? If you pay £60 a month for a service, surely they should give you the kit free to watch it ?
Thinking of telling them to shove it on a months notice and flip to Virgin.
Anyone else has experience they can offer up ?

It is a bit of a con right enough, I agree.
What about Ebay? There's some with Buy it Now of £100 or so, or you could try bidding and get one cheaper maybe. How long it'll last though, I don't know. I think it's your luck, like everything else really. I've had mine for 3 years now without a fault, and the last one was as old as the hills, one of the first sky boxes and still worked fine.
Can you do a full format/rebuild on these since essentially, they're a computer with Hard disc and all? Could be your way ahead there.

Yanto,
Do the following.
Call Sky tell them your box is broken.
(They will then try it on with the 60 quid thing.)
In that case tell them your going to virgin. You now really like the red logo they ply all over things + they provide boxes, sometimes even two for free and Mr Branson is such a nice man compared to Mr Murdoch. Also you don't like that annoying bird on the F1 channel that asks such stupid questions every 30 seconds.
You will now get put through to the customer retention team. Generally these are slightly brighter chimps.
Repeat step 1 again, wait for pause, hey presto they will give you a new box but only on this occasion.
Believe me it will work I've had 3 HD boxes this way.
WHY? Sky hate losing customers because they lose a subscription. In addition they also lose critical viewing and advertising data which they charge for (this is why your box boots up at around 3am each night).
Hope that helps.

:banghead:
So let me get this they will only do it on this occasion but they did it for you 3 times. You must be really special then or do you have a mansion with multi-room ?

Should have been more clear. I have multiroom HD boxes. The third was for my parents when their box failed which I also got replaced.
As HD boxes have harddrives in, ALL of them eventually fail within about 3 years (average).

Thx guys - box is 5 years old so maybe it's had it's time.
Thinking Virgin anyway....seems to have a good rep right now.
Can you still get F1HD on this ?

Ian, just had the same, I told them to switch me off :moan:
I was put through to the disconnection team, I didn't even need to say anything, they came straight in with 20% off all sky bills for the forth coming year but had to pay a tech call of £15 which covered a new box and any other faults found on the call out. Job done  I'm still with sky
