Do I go with the tried and tested Michelin's/Conti's or do I try the Vredestein Ultrac's which are basically 100 quid per corner cheaper and get awesome reviews?
anyone tried the vred's?

road.
one or two trackdays a year, max. Track isn't really a consideration in this purchase. I'll get cups for track if i really want to.

I knew this is what you guys would say:hahaha: but is there any basis for it?
do you think I would actually notice any difference between the two?
Vredestein actually have better review than PS2/Supersport!
I'll probably just cave and buy Michelin, I can't stand mis matched tyres and the Michelin's on the front have quite a bit of life left
I run Falken FK452's for the road - cica £450 for a set seem pretty good.
Cups for the track :supz:

that test is Pilot Sport 3 (an eco version of the pilot sport and no M3 sizes)
at the end of the day you want best grip, dry and wet.

Barry Verds are rubbish, i had them before. If you can hold off until Tuesday I have a visit from Michelin and will see how good a price I can get for you.

Most on M3 cutters rave about the vreds.
I think they are not so great, plus they look shit. I like a tyre that looks good on the rim. I could forgive the looks, if they were great. Overpriced IMO.
I prefered the falkens to be honest, not a great tyre, but good, and even better for price.

I had the vredestein on my 535 and was constantly getting punctures and bulges in the sidewalls at even the sight of a pothole, never again.

Have to admit I think Falkens are better in the wet than Michelins not as good in dry. But for road use can't fault Falkens at half the price, now on 2nd set.

+1 vreds are shite. Stay away. Sidewalls too soft. Felt like car was wobbling about on them unless pressures set really high. Not too bad in wet though. Had them on normal e46 m3

Another shout here for the FK452's. When I was using the CSL every other day, I had these on it and couldn't fault them. On track, they did go off after 4-5 laps of Knockhill though, but on the road they were spot on in every condition other than snow! They wore very well too and STILL have the fronts sat in the garage which reminds me I should punt them when I get home to make some space.
If I was choosing now for an every day tyre though, I'd go for the Michelins. Then again, I've got Conti's on the E90 and they're not half bad either.

Think that might just be a feature of crappy RFTs though Chris, had the same problem with various Bridgestone Potenzas on my old 335d :moan::banghead:
I've got ContiSports on the back of the CSL, and on the Alpina, and they're pretty good. However the CSL ones are definitely getting changed for SuperSports all round next time, as everyone I talk to seems to reckon they're the best road tyre out there

I did lots of research when I was due a change & everybody said best road tyre on the market is the Supersport :notworthy:

Go for the Supersports Barry. Have mine on since February. Great tyre in wet or dry weather.
Talk to Keith from alloywheels.ie. Cheapest place to get them in Ireland.

Agreed, awful things, especially in the wet
That's not good though about non-RFT Vreds though. Nearly bought them for my other car but I still can't get my head around a "designer" tyre, so went for tried and trusted Contis instead
