View Full Version : Book a Track won't REFUND!
Not happy :banghead: Booked a day with Book a Track July 2nd at Donny & had to cancel due to work commitments & understood that I would loose a 20% admin fee but... they have said because I was a couple of hours late sending them an email to cancel (within 7days) I will loose the whole £320 or have a credit note...!
1) I think 20% is enough to loose considering they have places still available so havent turned anyone away & really how much admin have they done!
2) Im doing Donny 31/8 and expect that's it for 2012 so I would have to wait till summer next year to use this £320 & after this I would use them again!
Their response was - 'if you dont want the credit not which is a good will gesture then we will keep the full amount'
Should have listened to the guy's that warned me of 'Book a Twat' :moan:
Cant believe their attitude! Just sent another email basically saying I wasnt happy & could they do anything for me? They replied.....
'For the avoidance of doubt, we will most definitely NOT be refunding your card'
:finga: Wa#kers!

I organise Trackdays in Ireland and I have to say I'm on Bookatracks side of the fence...obviously:hahaha:
The problem you get with giving out credit notes/refunds etc is that you get people trying to cancel due to poor weather forecast, work commitments etc:banghead:
I have a no refund policy. If you book and can't make it then it's your loss, however in certain circumstances i will give the person a credit for the next trackday etc
if you booked a Ryanair flight to spain and had to cancel due to work commitments do you really think they would give you a refund? or any airline for that matter.
Honestly the credit note is a generous gesture that they are not obliged to do. I'd be happier with that rather than giving them 20% admin fee which is a total scam
Fact of the matter is 20% is a joke, what have they done for this & they have spaces available so they havent lost a thing (other than my future business)
If they had refunded minus the 20% i would have took it on the chin & booked again with them but they are bloody rude!
& the fact I was a matter of hours out of the 7days to get a refund! Not the way to run a business IMO
I was warned of their attitude! should have listened to Shimmy... :notworthy:

no refund is pretty common these days as Barry says, you used to be able to bail out late if the weather looked bad but times have changed
a refund is what you want but voucher is good although means you have to speak to them again :)

I have had problems with them before where they have given me a credit with a time limit, due to not having a car then luckily got my mates to use the credit and they gave me the cash back. :banghead:

obvioulsy yours is a genuine case and this has nothing to do with you but you wouldn't believe some of the crap people have given me over the years.
A guys engine blows up and dumps oil everywhere and he starts screaming at me for a refund.:119:
I obviouly tell him he's not getting a refund so instead he goes and tries to sell his wristband to some other idiot at a discounted rate for the afternoon session:wanker: ... I should have charged him for the track closure.
Then you have the guys who do 20 laps and get a puncture and come looking for 50% back because they need money for a tyre or to get a tow truck home or what ever.
Then you have the guys who sign on a second driver to their car but instead they try get out and drive another car etc etc.
honestly, you wouldn't believe the bullshit people try and pull these days. People have no respect and everyone is looking for something for free
Not thats it's any of their business but the real reason i couldn't do it is my Nan whos 91yrs old has been in a nursing home for the past five weeks & has recovered after a small stoke & coming home to her house Monday so wanted to help/be there when she comes home.
And I am sure you get all sorts of reason's & getting messed around is never nice but im sure you are polite to your customers who are spending alot of money with you...
But I shouldn't have to tell them that & I wont I just know for the future I wont be using Book a track or recommending them to anyone :wanker:

That's totally understandable and delighted your Nan is on the mend.
There is no excuse for bad manners though, especially when a customer has spent £320:119: sounds expensive!

Sounds like a headache!
Personally I'd take the credit note, then sell it to someone on the forum, sell it with a bit of discount, you don't loose too much and someone else gains a little discount, everyone is happy(ish).
At least that way you have a bit of cash back in your pocket, they haven't won and you haven't lost all your hard earned.

Personally I think Bookatrack are one of the best track day organisers out there. I've been going on their track days since 2004 and never had a problem with them.
I know the guys who run the company well and deal with them a lot and they are always polite and do what they can to help out.
I think the offer of a credit note to use against future track day seems like a good offer as you can't make that day becuase of a change in YOUR plans. #You were obviously intending on spending that money for that track day so what does it matter if you use it in a months time instead?

I'm disappointed to have to come here to defend myself, but equally I can't sit around and let these lies you're spouting affect my companies reputation.
Firstly, you contacted us over 24 hours after the 7-day deadline. I politely pointed out that you'd missed the deadline and offered a goodwill credit note, which I was in no way obliged to do.
Your response was both arrogant and bullying (in a similar vein to this thread in fact) and I will not be bullied into issuing a refund.
As for the reason why you couldn't attend. Here's your original email :-
"Unfortunately I will be unable to attend Donington next week due to work commitments that have just arisen."
If you choose not to furnish me with the truth about why you can't attend the event then that's your choice, but don't use the sick granny to try and drum up forum support afterwards - that's pathetic.
Interestingly, your last email to me said you were going to attend on Monday after all rather than lose your money. It'll be interesting to see if you do turn up as it clearly shows where your priorities lie!
For the record, it is *incredibly* rare for us to refuse a refund or credit note - in any circumstances. A polite and appreciative approach goes a long way.

BaT
yep, defended yourself pretty well there, even managing a new 'low' in insulting customers....or maybe you see that as a new 'high'
Your short rude response led me to be in a position where I do not want to attend another one of your track days & my reasons behind not attended should not make a difference Jonny.
I was shocked at your short & rude reply considering recently I spend over a £1000 with you hiring a car and treating a friend to a track day with you at castle Combe in his Honda S2000.
I have made other family arrangements and will be getting this track day out of the way so I can enjoy my future track day experiences and not deal with book a track.
As for your companies rep' don't be so rude and arrogant and you won't get called so by me and others!
I will be there Monday so if you want to say something do it face to face.

Yes I told you it was because of work commitments, but you response was so arrogant I didnt feel I wanted to explain any further & wanted my money back & to see the back of BaT...
BaT;
For the avoidance of doubt, we will most definitely NOT be refunding your card.
Bat;
If you’re not happy and the credit note is no good then I will remove the credit note now as it’s clearly pointless as a goodwill gesture if there’s no goodwill generated.
Me; - Happy to loose 20% admin fee..
I consider that 20% is more than
fair & if you attend to maintain repeat customers this is not the way
to do business. Particularly considering most people who do track days
do so through word of mouth recommendation from fellow track day'ers.

Shame you feel the need to be so selective with your quotes Simon.
Having offered you a goodwill credit note, this was your immediate response:-
"A credit note is no good to me & I would like & expect a refund minus
the 20% admin which is im not 100% happy about but i will take it on
the chin."

Credit note is no good to me pruely because I wouldn't use BaT again because of the way ive been dealt with.
I will be there Monday & reading the T&C's
22. Aggressive or threatening behaviour towards any BookaTrack.Com personnel or any other person at a BookaTrack.Com event will result in termination of the event for You. No refund will be given and the decision of BookaTrack.Com is final.

Your bullying tactics may work with other companies but I personally won't tolerate it.
And if you want to question my refund policies - out of a total of 406 refund/cancellation/transfer requests in the last 12 months, there have only been 2 clients who have not had anything back from us. You would have been the third.

I'm a completely disinterested party in all this not knowing either SY or Bookatrack, but based on what I've seen here, it's not clear to me what BaT have done wrong.
You were late cancelling, they offered you a credit note, which you declined.
You then carried on trying to get a refund, and they told you clearly it was a credit note or nothing.
So what else were you expecting exactly ? If they wouldn't refund you within their T&Cs that'd be another matter, but it's you who's outside the agreed T&Cs, and they've offered goodwill which you've declined...

Edit: In fact even if I previously didn't think a refund was appropiate it's time to offer one now in light of those comments.
You will not fail a 98db driveby absolutely smashing it round.

If you do get black flagged make sure you don't go past all the sound meters and rev the bollox of the car in 3rd gear for another 5 laps, that wouldn't. Be fair.

It's a shame you feel that way and if it offends anyone I'm genuinely sorry. Part of the reason we are still around after ~13 years of running track days is that I don't let people walk all over me. Whether that's on the forum, or at the circuit. Driving standards issues get dealt with in the same forthright manner and that's why we've got one of the best reputations and safety records in the industry.
And before Shimmy gets all twitchy and dislodges the massive chip off his shoulder - a few gobshites on an internet forum with an axe to grind do not constitute a bad rep :-)

OK Simon, now unfortunately *you* have overstepped the mark. You are blatantly lying about emails that don't exist and phone calls that were never made. All our calls are recorded and all emails are stored our server. I welcome any independent inspection of either system.
I have posted *every* bit of email correspondence we have exchanged this week and there was most certainly no voicemail from you over the weekend.
Unless you can post or forward me the alleged email (complete with headers) then I must insist that you retract those blatant lies immediately, otherwise I'll be cancelling your booking for Monday and I'll see you in court.

I very much doubt that..............
timing on a track day? no surprise you were thrown off, one of the first rules of track days with which ever company you use. It invalidates their insurance and its not worth the risk to them.
Others may have been timing but keeping it to themselves so not really a problem.
83SY came on here and publicly showed he was timing, whichever way you look at it that was breaking the rules of the day and they had every right to throw you off that as i would hope they would do with anyone doing the same.
I will be using BaT again and will be first choice for any of my future track days.

So for taking sake if your m8 times your laps from the pit lane the car being timed should go home ???
Thats pish with all the tools to post times from mobile phones and the like
Its posible to post times for every car that is doing a lap at any track in the world as it happens.

That's all well and good and yes timing is possible in many ways but NO timing on track days is a rule that is in place, we can all take the risk to time but we have to suffer the consequences if we get caught.
I don't see it as any different to speeding on the road, we all take the risk and do it sometimes but if we get caught you take the punishment.
If its a mate doing it on the pit wall i think that is a little bit different, but keeping it to yourself until the end of the day is really not that hard.
83SY would never have been thrown off the day if he hadn't posted the times during the day. If he'd waited until he left then nothing would have been done about it and you could all go back to talking about a good time round Donington.

I'm sure you time your laps Petery? Yes wrong to post them, lesson learn!
But there was at least 10 catherhams brimming with timing equipment & unless JR walks around with his eyes closed he knew that..
All that to one side BaT has so many of these catherhams buzzing round it drives you mad especially when 90% of them don't looks in their mirrors & move over! + in the wet they are all over the shop!

I do time my laps yes, as do 90% of the people on most track days and it is very hard for anyone to police and I'm not saying you were wrong to time but putting the times on a public forum could cause the track day organiser to have major problems if there was an accident/incident that involved their insurance company as they could prove that timing was happening invalidating their insurance. This applies to every organiser not just BaT.
when running a business it's just not worth the risk.
I'm pretty sure most of the Caterham's out on the track today were Academy drivers so pretty new to this driving on track stuff.
Not all us Caterham drivers are the same........

That was my point in the way the situation was handled, Im not saying you were wrong.
In business you have to think of the future and the way the current climate is, more so. Shortsighted on there part me thinks.

Regardless what his friends/supporters might say, and as I say to begin with I could see their point, he has not won himself any customers IMO, only possibly lost some.
You are allowed to film at trackdays and reviewing film will tell you how fast you completed a lap in, does not mean you are timing.
Good times by the way, you have Shimmy worried now.:gayfight:
My best in the GTR was 1.19,07 in the morning. Standard car, and nice and smooth driving. I think I did 1.20 with Yanto in, it was too easy tbh in that thing, and thats part the reason I sold it, it could have gone far quicker, but was not so rewarding on track and would cost a mortgage every trackday. That was first time out in the car.
I am tempted to get booked on this:smokin:
I do time my laps yes, as do 90% of the people on most track days and it is very hard for anyone to police and I'm not saying you were wrong to time but putting the times on a public forum could cause the track day organiser to have major problems if there was an accident/incident that involved their insurance company as they could prove that timing was happening invalidating their insurance. This applies to every organiser not just BaT.
when running a business it's just not worth the risk.
I'm pretty sure most of the Caterham's out on the track today were Academy drivers so pretty new to this driving on track stuff.
Not all us Caterham drivers are the same........
Ohh your a catherham driver, so your part of the family.
You seem to forget he has gone out of his way to look for an excuse to send me packing!!! Lesson learnt regarding the times posted but have a little look on some other forums & yes in the track section alot of talk regarding lap times etc

Wont matter now its all over but i am sure almost all CSL and Track drivers love to know there lap time.
There are other ways he could have delt with this he could have refunded him and taken the % and had a happy customer all he done was get some bad PR that could cost him a lot more than the money he got.
A happy customer is worth any amount when you run a company
even when they are wrong :-D

I did a 1m 17.1s today and I never got kicked of Donny.
I hope he had more on yer than that...

He also said he didn't like the way I'd styled my hair, fair reason for sending me home if you've seen my hair!

Totally agree with that regarding a happy customer. I've had my fair share of horrible customers & i wouldn't like to socialise with them but they do pay my mortgage & pump up the track day fund!
Thanks, only managed to get 3 sessions in before the rain
Come on get booked up! Fingers crossed we get some sunshine!
I need some more camber, bit of under steer & touch too soft through the fast bitz! Intrax needed
That was my point in the way the situation was handled, Im not saying you were wrong.

If you do I think we will both be trying to hang onto 83SY coat tails :-D
But on a positive note a bit like Wiggins and Cavendish, we should be able to all get some great laps in and some good times.
Remind me to book my insurance :(

Fu king hell.
This thread is a case study in how a small situation becomes a big situation if not managed properly.
This should be case study for college kids on how not to run a business.
That book a track douche bag is going to lose a lot more than 300 quid through bad publicity. He shouldn't have let emotion get in the way, kicking him off the track for a minor infringement was really immature.
What an idiot.

It's not competitive shim & remember no timing!
I'm going on a diet until 31/8 I'm sure I could loose a few pounds! Remove the hello kitty carpet mats & leopard print seat covers & that should be another tenth.....

I dont know how it felt from the passenger seat, but it was effortless for me, it was fast dont get me wrong.
but because we dont get a winners cheque, trackdays for me are a balance between going as fast as possible in the car but having great fun with great feedback thrown in. The GTR just went fast. There is a reason why Im back in a CSL;) (again:hahaha:) even got my business partner infected, he has one now too.

The fact you've gone to a GTR and come back speaks volumes for the CSL. I'm sure the GTR is an impressive bit of kit but IMO i feel very connected with a CSL, gives great feedback & yes it's big power/rear wheel drive but it gives you fair warning before you get past the point of no return!
I've had a wheel speed sensor out for a couple of months now so all TC off which is hairy in the wet! Wouldn't have it any other way tho!
Would love a go it a GTR and fair play you've ticked the box but I'd imagine he CSL is back for good? Especially after all the work you've done on it!
