Hi
I can get 2 new rear Cups at a good price but the production date is middle 2003, are they too old?Ive been looking into this and the top tyre manufacturers say about 6 years is the life of a tyre, after this they start to go hard and brittle and are unsafe. So I would think after 9 years they have had it;)

Id guess they would be ok for road use. I ran 2003 ones a couple of years ago and they were fine. If you are going to venture out onto track then id say get fresh ones.

Depends how they've been stored, if they have been away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures, they will have a better chance of being ok. I'm sure Michelin will have good ozone protectant bulit into their compounds.

I will most probably not use it for track but i might be doing a few higspeed runs, and that worries me more... Half price but maybe not a good idea.

i dont think any issues with safety on older tyres, just that rubber gets a bit hard
if you look at all the supercar owners i bet most have on original tyres as cars do so few miles, and no issues

They are cheap.
I am just concerned that soon they will be 10 years old :(

Im from Cape Town, but live in London.
i was just looking for a set that was road worthy, mine have canvas popping out.
Im changing to 18" wheel, and just wanted some rubber on my 19's but wanted cups to match the fronts, not sure if thats just ocd or not, lol

I agree with Shimmy
I don't think they will delaminate, I just think they might go "off", and not grip as well as a fresh cup.
But they would have to be cheap, very cheap.

i ran 39th wk 2003 cups on the rear for a while up until feb this year. no problems with them, wore evenly, gave decent grip but not as much as the newer ones i replaced them with.

STAY AWAY from them.
Not worth the money saved. It's your car and your life (and possibly somebody else's life you are risking here).
I wish I took photos of my 10 year old cups (barely used) to show you guys but these tyres delaminate JUST LIKE ANY OTHER TYRE would after a certain period.
The tyres I had have had less than two track day outings with nearly 80% of the tread still remaining (these were heat cycled also at the track) and the rest of the time sat in a dry room, away from the sun. When I pulled them off two out of the four tyres had extreme delamination going on with one tyre having roughly no more than 10cm of rubber holding onto the tyre wall on the inside. The rest all showed signs of cracking near or around the joint between the tyre wall and the tread.

Strange then why BMW Munich is selling so old tyres.
They should offer a set of fresh cups for CSL owners only @ 800 EUR
