View Full Version : Silverstone 'Arena GP' BMW Trackday - Sept 24th
Nick Wright
18-06-2012, 04:10 PM
Silverstone BMW Trackday,
Monday 24th September 2012
Full 'Arena' GP Circuit
Open Pitlane
Full use of the entire Silverstone 'Wing' garages
Free ARDS instruction (three of my guys are ARDS grade S 'super-instructors')
Dedicated novice schooling and tutorials
Friendly club atmosphere
Non member guests welcome
Non BMW's welcome
Trophies and prizes
Forum price: £275 that's the cheapest day there this year by a country mile.. BookEasyGold and all them charge around £400.
I keep the entry numbers low so we all get plenty of time on circuit.
Over 30 years at Silverstone - we have been coming here each Autumn since the 70's!
The daddy of all Club trackdays - This for us is where it all began, out on the grand prix circuit and we are still enjoying it.
We don't share with anyone, we bite the bullet and book the whole place as an exclusive hire, we always have - not a bad achievement for a small one marque members club!
If you only do one trackday this year, do this one - nobody runs a Silverstone trackday like we do!
Regards
Nick

This event is starting to pick up a good few bookings now.
I will be promoting this day like mad when we are at the Silverstone Classic later this month.. so don't go letting me sell your place to someone else.. if you want to come I need to know.
Both trackdays prior to this one have sold out well ahead of the event and left late bookers disappointed
If you know you want to come - call me now!

I'm giving that one a swerve this year and opted for the Travelodge that I booked for £12 last year!
We'll be having our meal and drinks at The Navigation at Stoke Bruerne - it's got a lot more going for it.. with the one exception.. it's only a short drive away, but too far to stagger back! - cracking pub though, the best in the locality

Have you seen who we have got to warm up the circuit?
http://www.britcar24hr.co.uk/cms/24hr.php
The Britcar 24 Hr racing will 'rubber in' the circuit nicely for us!
Do you fancy seeing the 500hp M3 GTR's close up and get to see the action from the pit lane?
I'm going to try and get us all a parking area right in the paddock - and there is a club deal on the price - use this link to make your booking and don't forget to say you are with the BMW Car Club
http://www.britcar24hr.co.uk/cms/news.php?item.1272
I can't think of a better start to a BMW trackday than this
Hope to see some of you there

Our resident snapper has just confirmed he will be coming to do the pictures again.
They will be hosted on Flickr again so that you can get them all free of charge.
Here is the link to last years pictures
http://www.flickr.com/photos/bmwccgb...7627555035573/
Bob Harper, editor of BMW Car magazine, will also be there to do a feature on the day
We may also get some TV, BMW's in house production team said they will do some coverage for one of their promotional videos.
.. so if you don't want to be spotted on camera or TV, get some gaffer tape for your number plate!

How many last year? + how many booked so far?
Can't say for sure as I didn't highlight the different E46 M3 variants on my entry list.
We had 24 assorted '46 M3's - More than half of them were CSL's
So far this year I have 8 CSL's booked and paid

Good one!
We will probably fill the bar at The Green Man, it's our destination of choice before a Silverstone event.
I'm not stopping there though - my bed is at the Travelodge down the road - I booked a job lot of them for £12 per room back in February.

20 was yesterday, I have done 4 more - I need 16 at £275 to break even
Now if everyone had paid the full £325 it would be a different story
The 'profit' comes from the raffle, donations, DTM passenger rides and stuff like that on the day

I know its ain't no CSL but the 328 is £195 on the Club policy - it gives me 5000 miles road use which is more than I need, recovery and cover for all club events and trackdays. (club trackdays are taken as read, others are if you give them notice of who is running it)
The scheme is run by Classicline and you need to be talking to Darren

im guessing the rain along with 24hours of rubber being laid diwn only 18 hours earlier did not mix ;)
IMO the conditions weren't that bad! it was raining but not much standing water. The problem was the 50 cars driving round at sighting lap pace like its the first time they have ever seen some rain :(
Then you had the roll cage heros! one came out of the pits and within the first three corners ran out of talent :notworthy:
Good to see all the CSL lads & meet Sam with the White E46 (nice bit of kit)

The event should not have been cancelled, it was raining! Not that hard and not much if any standing water. The main problem was the driving standards & after talking to Nick lots of people did not have wet tyres! If you haven't got the wets in the wet why even turn up on what we all knew a week in advance was gunna be wet!
The optional £10 garage fee that was demanded at signing on got me? Advertised as free garages! And even when the shut was hitting the fan and Nick had to call every for a 'chat' the last thing he mentions? Raffle tickets guys :bigcry:
I'm sure the event will hit the record books for worlds longest drivers briefing but on the whole we both felt it was a really poorly run event

You last 19mins longer than I do.
They would be better recording an industry standard video, like you get at karting tracks. Would save lots of time.

Waste of my last TD of the year, for me BMW car club track days are for the gentleman drivers who like to drive round and enjoy the views and polish their BMW badge in the pits rather than get on with it!
