Great day today, nice to get the car back on circuit after my last shunt! When i arrived there were a few too many chavs around for my liking, but everyone i spoke to was actually really nice. Only problem for me was the disappointing Ferodo pads again.
I got a few snaps in between swapping over with my dad, here they are...

Nice one mate - looks like you had fun in the 'dry'! Who was the other CSL in the pics?

I'm not sure if he is a member but it was a guy from Leeds, it was a standard car but with Brembos all round. I think his RTABs were shot as he was struggling a bit round Brands.
I only took photos for a few mins, but there was the WTCC style wrapped CSL, Tom Houlbrooks, one which was S7* CSL and maybe another one. Also a Turbo'd and Nitrous powered M3 i missed out!

Y, looked like that...I know Jags had a chat with him about some of his handling issues and I think he may be dropping the car in for some work in the morning.
Your car went well Rob... certainly well peddled on some of the laps I witnessed.

Yeah, always liked the E30s. Curiously i think the fastest non-race one was in fact the convertible one. It also sounded almost CSL-esque!
My favourite was the 2002 though.
Thanks Tom, well done to you Piers and Stephan for taking out people on free rides. I would have charged a fiver a pop myself :hahaha:

the geezer was ok and car looked worse than it was i think, but you never know until you get it stripped
front left impact and side panels and windows damaged but roof, bonnet and rear looked fine
engine sounded good and no fluid leak plus wheels were all good and seemed to be ok geo at least to drive home
will be a few grand but car looked solid tbh

Tom, if you want a sensible post then i think for anybody to post a picture of somebody elses damaged car is poor show and i would have trouble/feel gulilty taking the pic let alone posting it on a CSL forum.
Thankfully over at MT they have withdrawn it and would hope the same would happen here.

Apologies. Is it ok to continue talking of pouncing on his misfortune and making a track car of it?
It's taking me a while to get the rules here, but I take it any negativity towards a BMW M3 CSL is not allowed, especially comments regarding depreciation of a BMW M3 CSL. It's ok to talk about a damaged BMW M3 CSL, but posting a picture so that users can see more clearly what's being discussed is not allowed. And it's ok to discuss benefiting from a damaged BMW M3 CSL owners misfortune by bagging a cheap car?
Great, all clear.

TBH i was mainly aiming it at the MT thread which started with the picture.
But as you bring i up, i dont think any post about this subject really entertaining and if you do then thats your and the others opinion and not much i can do about it,
there are many reasons why track day cars involved in damage on track are not discussed too heavily and pictures not posted and one day when you have thought about it for a minute or two, that bulb may just light up above your head.
Until then carry on, as there are many different people in this world.

I bought the P1 CSL and everone on MT said it was a dog
it was a great car and it cost me 21K and after 6 months i sold it for 28k
so it was a great car to me

Is it an opportunity for me to build a racecar - yes.
Did this arise from someone elses misfortune - yes.
However, I maintain this is the best option now open to said owner. He would be better placed to sell the car as is at circa £10k and put the money he would have/will spend fixing it (I estimate £12-£16k) towards buying an uncrashed example.
Either way, I've know who's car it was and been in touch. He's chosen to repair it and I wish him the best and will help if I can. The pictures in my mind were harmless as they didn't identify the specific car but given then owner asked for them to be taken down then it's only fair to respect those wishes.

Jesus keep your pants on Dave... don't be so cocking aggressive. You're entitled to think my repair estimate is high but no way is it £3k as you said here and on Mtorque.
We're talking about putting the car back to as new with genuine panels right??
How much is a replacement CSL front bumper?
How much does it cost to refit curtain airbags?
How much does it cost to repair rear quarter panels?
Paint work, was gravel rash all over it.... if you want the car back to an as new standard you might well end up respraying the whole car to get a good even finish.
There was from what I could see (I was there were you?? )some front suspension damage, minor but non the less needed replacing and the car subsequently realigning.
Supply/fit replacement glass?
Wheel refurbishment?
If you can do it for £3k send me your details and I'll get the poor owner involved to get in touch about a quote. :clown:
iv seen smashed to **** csl,s make £18k
Really? recently? no, didn't think so... there are a couple of leggy but clean cars that have just changed hands for <£20k. Good cars are going for low £20k's ... so how can you justify paying much more than £10k for an accident damaged car in the current climate?
Or think of it another way... how much would you pay for a damaged and subsequently repaired car? Would you really want to pay more than £20k given you can buy an undamged one for that kind of money. That being the case how much can you justify paying for a damaged car???
And in case you wondered, no I won't be trying my hand a running a body shop, thanks for the cocking tip.

:smt017
ok, so you want to save a few quid with second hand parts. You find me a secondhand good condition genuine BMW CSL front bumper for £500. I'd like one myself so please send me the details. If you can't find one phone BMW and ask them for a price on a replacement CSL front bumper... then tell me if your £500 either way is even close.
Also, if the rear quarter panel is in need of replacement that's not a small job is it? Correct me if I'm wrong as it's not my area of expertise but it's not like a front wing which is a bolt on replacement, I think it's a more involved process as it's one piece with the roof line?
Airbags?
Glass?
suspension?
etc..
Then after all this we are still stuck on the fact that there are undamaged cars trading at just under £20k now (sad to see as a CSL lover but true). Hence why I maintain that a circa £10k price is fair bid for a damaged car before repairs.
Maybe you have been doing this a long time, but either be more tactful or sort your numbers out before you flame someone....
Let's leave it at that.

Something funny due to the tyre and the set up...in the morning with a very sleepy track, i was "really" faster than david wich one drive like "hollidays on ice" with his Sport cup and lowered car...
of course when sun came, situation reversed, and i could not follow his SG gone like a rocket...ggrrrrr!
advantage on this track, with PSS10 and Sport cup...too much! maybe more than 3 secondes by lap, and i know where is the accelerator pedal!!!
Normal you think, but that was interresant to see progress between a stock CSL and a full up grade one...when track came slowly dry.
I don't speak about the difference between the two drivers... :blalalala:
That was a good track day for us and for myself with a fantastic fight with the incredible audi R8. (stability, no spinning wheel (4WD), and no understeering even in short wet bend...so easy to drive, limit no fun)...i drive it during one session, the guy very cool let me did a test after the fight. (i 'll give a video link when ready...the end of the fight was funny!!!)
Definitly, the CSL is more enjoy to drive!

yep fun, but not in the morning, with wet track and 3°, couldn't get the cups heated up.. what a nightmare, and I was forced to let pass the dude with is black Csl... ( hightmast :birdman: )
Then, after lunch, the "darkside"( as the grey Csl) became the nightmare of all drivers on the track...
We all know that Grey csl are naturally faster than black ones... :-D :-D

This is why we love the CSL just for what it is a road car that is just NOT a road car !
There is something special about turning up in your day to day car and spanking much more exotic machinery !

yyesssss, funny at the end without damage, lucky! but dirty shoes after!
and just one precision, what i think about the fastest colour for CSL: :birdman:
I remember at the end of the action (in the video) when oppened the door to see how deepy in the gravel i was, saw coming from the straight line david in his CSL with a big smile as the joker :clown: in batman...it was a really funny situation...but when you go fast it could happen, isn'it david!!!
be afraid of the darkside! upgrade coming soon on my car... :
Definitly a good day...finished with 2 evo Mitsubishi against 2 CSL...
CSL wone of course, even one was with slick tires and 390 HP!!!
Looking for photos of the action...

I know that, i've already "stored" the car in a pitt and in the tire walls, smashed 2 front splitters and paint scratches on the rear fender.... but no body and paint work around, just some polish and all was clear again...

the R8 was looking at the clip a fair bit quicker if it had a clear run. You should have let her by and see how close you could get (i reckon 2 secs a lap difference)

Before they were in the UK officially Max Biaggi had one at Brands and it was very quick, keeping up with my NSX which had APs and Nitrons. I was very impressed with it.
houlbt,
more of your car PLEASE!!!!

You would have thought the R8 would have got past on the straights....although not many long straights on that track.....Never been a fan of fast Audi's. Not driven an R8 but have driven plenty of RS models and found them very very fast but left me feeling cold...very souless cars.

Enjoyed that one  ...always amazes me how good the CSL is. When the CSL came out over here it didn't meet with critical acclaim, but Europe put it up on a pedestal and rightly so.
