Gone the to the dark side a couple of months back now with a 7RS
Love this car to bits and took it to the ring recently (same time Lawsy was out) with T$ and the hooligans, car felt awesome and soon got used to it after some initial shocking laps getting the feel for it!
Just wondered who else has gone from a Cecil to a 997 gen 1 GT3/RS or beyond and what their thoughts were after "the move!"
Mine are all positive except everything costs twice a much but i guess thats just how it is.
Would love to have kept the Cecil as well though and would have one again if funds permit
Both awesome bits of kit ;)
I am a big fan of the porker gt3 RS and if i could have a 997 in orange I would but I was abit surprised how close in performance my CSL was at Spa a couple of weeks ago. Must have been 20 gt3 997 RS's and not one got away and only pulled two car lengths at the end of the straight!
Was expecting more but I would still love to own one

Did our paths cross on track?
There were a few out, I passed a fair few, but no UK ones stick in my mind.
I had a good tussle with a couple of german plated ones.
What days were you out Alex.
They are awesome cars, how is T$ getting on in the PDK turbo S, bet he is quick in that

Lol this is why we love Cecils i guess!
That said they do feel quicker and that 60 odd extra horsepower does make a difference:smokin:
Not just that though its the look of thing when the garage door lifts up!, sad but true!!

Just made the step across to the dark side, as said on here really don't expect it to be much quicker than my CSL certainly will not be until I get used to it and how the pork handles and doesn't forgive as much as the CSL does.
But just needed to tick the box, four weeks in and to early to really tell / compare anything, will wait till I've tracked it and had some long runs, but it already brings a smile to me when I wander up to it and start her up.
It squeaks and rattles and skips all over the place, feels edgy but alive at the same time, need to get confidence and knowledge in its ability and im sure it will begin to really become what I expected in a GT3 ...
Love the 997 shape too, and want to play with it a bit, V3's exhaust etc , but need to hang on a bit till im used to it std ..

Thats lovely mate, great in that colour, regarding bumps and rattles and is bang on right, prob even worse in mine.
"Mechanical" i think i would say to style it out!
Tell you what i watch the Carrera Cup now with more interest now to see how they behave on track, especially "Tania Manns" Efforts lol!:smt055 http://taniamann.com/

I had CSL's up my chuff before and the RS doesn't change much i just pretend i am on an "in-lap" and let them past if they are quicker lol!!

I know exactly what you mean, mate of mine just entered the GT3 Cup, so following him round too, and yes far more interested now I have one myself ... would of also kept the CSL if baby / fund permitted but Clare needed a bigger car, so X6 purchased as she didn't want the fuel bill on the SC RRS.. so that went in for the GT3 ! This is my next move. Keep thinking I should sell the csl now and pick up a 997 RS over winter. But when you keep ready people saying that the one car they regret selling is cesil. It makes you think twice...

Good question! I spoke to a lad recently that had 2 csl's ( one when new in 04) and still owned various other exotica. Scud, Strad, Masser MC Stradale, 997 RS. And what's the one car he most regrets selling....twice :-D

I kept my CSL and got a 996 GT3. I still hanker after a GT3 RS and it would have to be in orange or kermit green if I stretched to one. I do not think there is a great deal between the 996 and 997 aside from satnav, computers and driving aids that I am totally against anyway. A radio does me as I enjoy the driving and let us face it one you are doing 100 plus you cannot hear much anyway.
The Porsche definately seems more raw and edgy and out of control which does add to the excitement but you cannot carry four spare wheels in the back so despite having four Michelin Cup shod wheels for over a year, I have yet to use them.
If I had the extra cash would I 'upgrade' to the 997RS, possibly yes but for the extra 400 quid in road tax and small performance improvements, I am not sure the money would be well spent.

I think the GT3 non RS is the better all rounder more usable in a CSL way, the RS is too much as a daily and combined with lack of space makes it pure track, where as the GT3 can be a daily and a track whore, and nothing really between them of notable difference on track in the right hands.
Both lovely of course and just my view having been in the position to have to make a decision ..;)

Ive just bought a new Merc E350cdi Sport for the Mrs new car. ML goes back next month. They are cracking cars. Luxury with speed and economy.
75-80mph down to croydon in the c63. Averaged 24mpg.
80-85mph back from croydon in the E350. Averaged 45mpg.
And on the bits where I needed the acceleration the E class was more than ample. No more gas guzzlers for me for road use now.

I think that there is only one UK specification GT3 RS and one slightly garish GT3 in Kermit Green complete with Kermit Green/Black seats so you would have to be quick to catch a green one. I would love to get a GT3 RS to but am in a bit of a quandary in that I have a GT3 in Riviera Blue which I now want to keep. That said it would be a little difficult to persuade my wife that I needed a GT3, GT3 RS and a CSL as well as a daily runabout. She already says that I am obsessed with my cars.
On top of all that it is expensive keeping three cars on the road never mind four and as Silver Bullet says the Porsche is definately more expensive.

Yes always nice knowing that there is a little bit of a safety net. Although am I correct in saying on the 997 it is only traction control as opposed to stability control ?

Both I believe or two system controls on the Mk II but just one safety net on the Mk I - PASM and something else that escapes me at the moment.

In RS's the 996 has nothing, the 997.1 has traction control, the 997.2 has traction + stability.
