Right, I know I should be steering clear of there for a stack of reasons, but been following and commenting on the odd thread on PH lately, and there seems to be a real downer on the CSL for some reason. Maybe it's because of being a BMW and their haters, and presumably it's people who've never driven or maybe even seen one, but what's the story with all the "it's only a 3-series" stuff? I don't seem to see the same with the CLK Black & DTM and similar
Anyway, finally took mine out of hibernation last night. Started first time with the reconditioned battery, and my auto-dimming mirror is back in place and working perfectly since I had the gel replaced in it. Just needed to top up the tyres a bit, and it'll be going in for an oil and brake fluid change next week. Didn't put it through anything too stressful, just a decent run down and back on a dual-carriageway, but I'd nearly forgotten how exciting these cars are
Also spotted a featured one in Car magazine this month, where they're urging people to get into a CSL at £25k before they start going up in value

I used to think PH was a good forum.. then after a big argument I suddenly realised it was mostly full of IT nerds/keyboard warriors who just talk a load of bullshit. You only have to look in the lounge to see the drivel that comes out of some people. Or look at their "garage" and see they are driving fucking shit cars.
There are the odd few who are pretty cool but they are far and few between.
Fuck PH - the CSL is an amazing car - let the haters get on with it - the haters are usually the ones who believe the boot is made of cardboard... I could go on with my rant but I will refrain.
At the end of this month I would of had my CSL for 8 years!!!
It is still such an awesome car - the noise... the engine...the aggressive stance. I don't use it on track regularly like most of you and I am not technical when it comes to the ins and outs of it all but fucking hell, I LOVE IT!

So true, lot of green eyed keyboard warriors over there :hahaha:

A chance to own an E46 M3 Club Sport in the adopted unofficial CS colour of Interlagos Blue. Investors, speculators and collectors are buzzing around the older and less reliable, less comfortable CSLs, but for a taste of supercar motoring at an affordable price, no risk with a full service history.
...
CSL dynamic enhancements make the CS the most sensible purchase for anyone looking for a superb example of one of the finest naturally aspirated straight six engines ever made. After all, they bolted two together as a V12 and popped it into a McLaren F1!
The CSL might be the investor/speculator/collectors choice but the CS is the driver's choice with a much better specification.

That's the trouble with the internet, the worlds biggest bell-ends get to comment on something they no nothing about.
Plenty of key board warriors on PH, but there is some decent members among the shower of shite which make up the majority.

Think you're very right there, that's my policy from now on. I kind of got sucked into defending my choice of weekend / special occasion car, but I'm over it now!

That web-site seems to be full of it Barry (in both senses ;)), just do a search for CSL talk on there. From what I can tell, the 911 GT3s get a much easier time
Here's the latest example, with someone asking what they should buy for £25k as a weekend car:
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=23&t=1149006&mid=290015&nmt=25k+to+spend%2E+anything+awesome%21
And here are some of the replies when a CSL was suggested:
"Is it really though? The OP says the car can be ANYTHING and this is as exciting as you can find!? Frankly, given so few constraints on what can be chosen a 3 series BM is a bit boring"
"It might be a very special capable car but still a 3 series of which you can buy in many variants. A bit of dull choice when you have likes of 996 Turbo's and TVR T350's being mentioned. If it were an everyday, I think the CSL would get a good look in but as its weekend only it has to be something more "out there" imo. I do not have 25K to spend on a car by the way but that's how I would see things had I the cash to do so."
That second quote is from someone driving a Merc W124 230E from what I can work out. Not that there's anything wrong with that per se, but just that it might not be the best basis for an informed opinion on how special a CSL really is. I know you can get more exotic names for the money, but can you really get a much more exciting driver's car for the weekend without going down the track-special route? Maybe I'm just a bit blinkered, but the amount of people on here who've jumped into other stuff (perhaps more expensive 911 GT/Gallardo/360 CS excepted) and regretted it speaks volumes I think
And as for the serious suggestion on there of a Golf R..FFS :banghead:
Anyway, as mentioned, I got over it all in the best way possible, by getting the CSL out of the garage and making some noise ;)

When looking what to get after selling my long time friend E36 M3 3.2 limo I had a very open mind. Looking at hot hatches (for my budget I'd get a very new car which is nice). Then I thought a M3 CS would be optimal. But the sensation of driving an M3 or M3 CS is a long way from the CSL.... Not everyone has tried so not everyone knows. If you've had a ride in an M3 and not a CSL you'd be forgiven for thinking "uh, can't be THAT much of a difference". And if some bloke on the internet says you don't know anything... you just might not believe him

All this talk about them being great cars is making me hang my head in shame.
Mine has been sat under a tree at my old mans since returning from Silverstone in April and is currently covered in bird poo :bigcry:
Have a track day on Sunday though so will dig it out Sat and treat it to a rinse :smokin:
As for PH,
I try not to get involved in discussions over there as I have been banned before for "unsuitable language" :gayfight: :gayfight::gayfight: :hahaha: As I like that site for selling stuff I thought it best to just bite my tounge incase I incurred a lifetime ban or the likes.

Most people do not believe me when I tell them the csl & M3 are like chalk & cheese.
I normally end up telling them to check out this article.

Yep, very interesting stats. As the cal is better it should fetch more than a 996gt3. People are selling them too cheap.
