Hello all, I thought I'd say hello.

Long time fan of the CSL, ever since the first press photos were leaked prior to its release, and have been hooked ever since, and have watched in aw as they have held onto the prices so well.

I have been a BMW owner for over 15 years, and owned over 15 M3's but currently am BMWLess, and have a 2002 996 Targa (wanted a change, don’t hate me), My Last BM was a E46 M3 SMG, so very familiar with the breed.

I was the E36 Registrar for the BMWCC for a few years, and as a result one of my old M3's was featured in the BMW Car Magazines 25 Years of M3 feature. (Mine was the E36 Individual)

At the same time I was lucky enough to finally drive a E46 CSL for the very first time, and on a test circuit too, it was one of BMW UK's heritage fleet, and as many fo you on here will know is the one that Jeremy Clarkson has driven a few times on Top Gear and one of his Car DVDs, Hot Metal I think.

Anyway, back on point, it was an amazing car, and lived up to my expectations in every way.

I can honestly say, that I don’t know how long my brief stint will be in 996, but I plan to deal into a CSL next if my bank balance and wife will allow.

cheers

John

Hi John, your story sounds similar to mine less the number of M3s owned. I had a M3GT LHD that featured in a car magazine. During the photo shoot I got to drive the csl. Need i say more other than i had to wait a few years before purchasing my own. Never regretted it in the 6 years of ownership.

Thanks to all of you for the comments. Its the fixed seats she may object too, and the induction roar :) of course.

the CSL seats i have found are well received (unless the mrs is a right old Porker)

the rattle and knocks and suspension bumps are hoecwer a different issue

she prefers driving it to being a passenger tbh

35MPG That’s impressive, the most I every say on my E46 was 31, no matter how many hills I coasted down.

The MRS didn’t like the aggressive gear changes of the SMG, but thought it was a comfy car.

The EVO 6 I once had, that was a different matter, that did not like any bump or stone in the road.

The 996 is surprisingly stiff, and with having a large roof panel and a glass rear hatch it makes a good few noises, you just have to modify your driving to allow the exhaust note to drown it all out.:hahaha:

Welcome to the Forum John, good luck in finding the right car.

I have seen 30+MPG on the computer but how true that is, I don't know. And I don't want to even think how low I've seen it, but that's on track or when 'on one'

My Wife loves being in the CSL, doesn't enjoy driving it so much but likes being in the Passenger side. I've never heard a complaint about the seats but she's definitely no chunker, so maybe that's it Shim'.
