A few guys in the Nobles and I are thinking of a trip over to Zandvort......with a few other sites..... We've already done spa this year and a few are doing spa again in October so not planned on this visit.

Provisional Itinerary for Zandvoort/Amsterdam & Ring trip 2012

Tuesday 31st July Hull/Rotterdam Party boat crossing at 9.00pm.

Wednesday 1st August dock at Rotterdam then straight to Amsterdam for day then hotel stay in Zandvoort. (Southern lads could travel from Dover that day)

Thursday 2nd August Zandvoort trackday with Bookatrack then night/stay in Amsterdam.

Friday 3rd August Amsterdam chill day perhaps viewing the unusual architecture or simply straight to Red Light district... (optional)

Saturday 4th August Travel to Ring/Dorint then supper in Pistonclause.

Sunday 5th August Touristday 8:00 - 19.00 Stay at Dorint.

Monday 6th August Touristday 1.00 - 19.30 Stay at Dorint.

Tuesday 7th August travel back to either Dover or Rotterdam on Party boat.

So, yesterday I got my new Cups fitted at ATS in Cambs, and managed to see Billy for a coffee (and hatched a Snetterton trackday plan for Sunday 3rd June)

Today I swapped rims to the Volks/Cups and at the same time fixed my front stone guard at the back of the brake disc. Took off the airbox and checked filter and oil dipstick, hydrolic fluid, brake fluid, changed pads, cleared fault codes. Took her for a test drive to check all ok and managed to drop her over to Tesco to get my Bulgarian/Polish car wash guys to to give her a grit rinse.

Off to Germany Wednesday/Thursday and busy Saturday so I have to pack up the tools and stuff ready on Friday night for the three day trip which starts with a crappy ferry ride Saturday night.

spa was awesome, me and shimmy had some great laps.

I ran slicks after dinner and even in very heavy traffic, I managed 2,52.1. I was held up on corners having to brake early off line, come off accelerater etc.

Without doubt I could get below 2.50.
I think 2.48 is definitely possible on slicks.
Next time maybe. There was far too much traffic out all day to be able to get a clear lap in.

I had a great time on track, shimmy did too trying to keep up. get the vids up shimmy.

2nd time at spa, first time in Csl though.

The ring was fantastic, frustrating as I couldn't get a clear lap in, it was very busy out there.

Best I managed with lots of hold ups was 8.18, there was a 10mph coned off section on that lap too.

My brother filmed an 8.20 by hand so but shaky, but again lots of holdups.
I was far far quicker than last year, I was carrying so much more speed this time out.

All in all a great trip.

My lap times at spa were very consistent, getting held up in different places. I did 2.53,6. 2.53.4. 2.52.6. 2.52.1. 2.52.8. All in a row, every lap I was held up somewhere.

I had to get the slicks removed at 4 so unfortunately me and shim couldn't get out near the end to get on the mission.

Ok, so I am now back at home. My last post I think was from the ferry going over to Hoek of Holland so here is the rest of that day.

Sunday morning I woke up on the ferry coming into port with a big hangover (this may be repeated each day of this trip:gayfight:). Felt like I he had no Sleep at all. Then I realised I had boarded at 11pm, had dinner (free), chatted to the Malay Indian family to 12.30pm, sat up drinking Guiness and G&T to 1.30 before retiring only to find out that I had to get up at 6.30am (which was really 5.30am uk time so I was gonna get max 4 hours sleep. Positives were that the crossing was like a mill pond so I didn't vomit once!

Off the ferry and heading up towards Amsterdam and Zandvoort. 75 mins driving time only so after a petrol stop and a quick look at the seaside resort that is Zandvoort (it has Centre Parks as well) I was at the track by 9.30am for a 12 noon start.

Zandvoort Seaside

Some typical Dutch classic cars :)
http://i401.photobucket.com/albums/pp97/shimmylasco/CSL/Spa%20trip%202012/c44b3c9f.jpg

Now to say Zandvoort was a bit like wandering into a cowboy film might be an over statement but it certainly did feel like the Wild West. We were there on a sessioned car club day where you rock up before 12 noon, buy €25 ticket for 20 min session and sign your name and THAT'S IT. No briefing, no rules, no intro, no mention if flags or helmets or overtaking regs blah blah................absolute chaos! BUT FUN. I booked 4 sessions in the fastest group after getting advice from some Ducth bird who said there might be a few race cars but at least you'll avoids the nutters in the other two groups, and she was sort of right.

Curly, Sheila's, Twiggy and Hugh also booked a few sessions and we set off.

The track is marvellous. Twisty, wide, loads of elevation changes, difficult lines so it certainly is not easy to learn, especially with a whole host of nutty Nederlanders on your tail. The day ended with a race scirocco colliding with a drive experience Gallardo doing about 30 mph. I then drove into a hail of carbon fibre pieces bouncing up off the track and straight into my grill. Lucky very little damage to the front of my car for what was some big bits of Lambo and VW bodywork.

I'd recommend Zandvoort whole heartedly, maybe do a OPL and not the Gunfight at OK Corral:). You certainly won't nail it in one visit. My best time was a 2m 05.7 but that was no where near on the pace. On an OPL I think 1m 58-2m 00 would be a realistic target

OFF TO SPA
So then we packed up, said goodbye to the host of 6ft Dutch birds that we had pulled and we set off to Spa via Utrecht, Eindhoven and Liege. Before we left holland we said a thank you for girls on bikes (thank you Jesus)

Off to Spa we followed Curly on his shoppa. Now I'm all for keeping to the rules and laws of a foreign country BUT I'm sure the Dutch didn't really mean that you have to stick to every single speed limit you see. 120kph....break for the 90kph section......accelerate up to 110kph.......brake or a speed sign on a different road that you can see in the distance........I took to the front and we set off!

We got to our hotel by around 9.30pm so as it was a Sunday night we were gonna be hard pushed to get some food before they shut so we got in ASAP and booked in................hold on, Curly has got us booked in the annex 5 miles away from the restaurAnt. We are picked up by Peter, who leads us to somebody's house in Spa where we are told to make ourselves at home. Luckily it's not too bad and a short walk from the Casino and restaurants. We get out and manage to get chips and meat at a Bistro, some large beers and hit the Salsa dance bar. :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X71ymZ-znlg&feature=youtube_gdata_player

I danced with Curly even though the temps were still in the 20s and Culry was a bit sweaty (Jim, he's not cycle fit mate, you've got him beat.)

On the way back some dodgy pikey hoody stole our mate in Spa

Had a great day, really enjoyed the company. Temps were up To 25-27deg C so I was keeping my sessions to 2-3 fast laps and sheltering my burnt head from the sun.

http://i401.photobucket.com/albums/pp97/shimmylasco/CSL/Spa%20trip%202012/388b2aa1.jpg

Started with the mother of all hangovers which numbed the senses a little. I shared a garage with Lawsy and his crew meanwhile the Mancs slipped in a nicked some space as well. Curly took the shoppa round in the morning, Wheels (aka Sheila's) spent all day getting to grips with the daunting fast corners at Spa and Twiggy spent all day under his Elise fixing wiring and alternator faults :-D

http://i401.photobucket.com/albums/pp97/shimmylasco/CSL/Spa%20trip%202012/05f92d0b.jpg

Lawsy spent all day terrifying the MLR crowd, taking the sight of a boot of a car coming towards him as a personal insult and immediately dispatching it to far behind him. in the morning we had a few trips out together and Lawsy was very quick onto the pace, just suffering a bit by overheating his Yokos but meanwhile stealing all my secret lines.:-D

He obviously got pissed off with this and by lunchtime put on some slicks to go with his cage and immediately went faster by a good few seconds, rumour has it he beat my best time once he had the slicks on although I have yet to see any
proof :beer

(nonetheless he was certainly cornering at one hell of a pace and I'd be surprised if his best times were not a few secs sub 2m 50 if there was no traffic.)

There was a day of considerable traffic and slow cars. Debris slowly mounted all day as a Corvette got smashed up, GT3RS gen 2 destroyed on the Kemmel straight by a 911turbo that lost control, M3 lost a wheel and bumper at B2, countless Evos blew up engines or dropped coolant everywhere, and a XBow driver just got to his limits far too easily and smashed up enough carbon fibre to keep the Slovacs busy for a month.

My best time was in 2m 56 territory with traffic right up to closin time. Best theoretical was 2m 53 so probably in there somewhere I wasn't too far off the pace but certainly didn't manage to get pulled along by Lawsy and the slicks which was what I was hoping. It was great to see Jurn and Crackers and there were quite a few M3 and a couple of CSL but nothing going past us at all.

I think next time for Spa I am saving up and doing a more expensive Goldtrack or Curbstone day to try to get some space.

(no video processed yet but will upload later)

Wheels, Curly, Twiggy, Hugh and me left around 5pm for a short trip up to Zolder. Turned into a monumental task as the Belgians had decided to shut the motorway out of Spa for two junctions. Eventually got to Zolder around 8pm. Booked into our hotel at the track, 'De Pits' (if Curly cracks the same joke again I'm gonna throttle him). My car was making very strange noises on the run into Zolder so it was lookin very doubtful for me that I would get on track. I was planning therefore to check the car over in the morning and possibly head up to Henk at Intrax to see if there was something up with my rear shock.

Meanwhile the hotel at the circuit (De Pits) was a nice boutique type of place. Good restaurant and bar, simple nice rooms (except Wheels who had a suite) and all the rooms overlooked the circuit, literally 20m from the start finish straight. We decided to get pissed then which was a bit of a shock.:-D

If you want to make some fast laps with very little traffic, you need to book with Curbstone Track Events. They allow only cars with + 300 BHP & maximum 60 cars on one trackday. It's a little bit more expensive but it's all inclusive, race instructors, eating all day, technical assistance, free drinks all day etc...

I tell you Zandvoort makes you feel like there are no rules....scary.

It's like you said, the Marshalls cheer when you drive well or go past cars. When I nearly spun last year and held it with Jim in the car, the two Marshalls at the next enter were cheering

I got straight to work on checking what was wrong with my car. Got the wheels of and checked the bushes and dampers. All looked ok although i was still convincd they were too soft. I called Intrax (only 107km away) and stook some advice. God dampers are complicated bits of kit and i didnt understand what they said.:smokin: I was told by Curly to get out there with the car and give it a go, but inside i was a little nervous, thinking i might bin it!

By then Jurn and Flow had turned up in their CSLs so with Wheels and me we had a fair flock of induction noise and Supersprint Exhausts at what was a pretty closed in circuit with high buildings and concrete......was gonna be some serious CSL sounds being played. Then we were told that they run a strict noise policy with "two black flags and your out" so suddenly we were a bit worried.

I did one session and immediately liked the circuit. Not very long or fast but likewise only one 2nd gear corner once you had learnt the circuit. It had a long double home straight, then a p[arabolical corner taking you round the back of the pits onto a chincane, fast curve, chincane and fast curve, then back to the straight away. I did a 2m 05s and was told by Flow that 1m 52+ would be agood time, this being his home circuit he should know.

Dinner with all the lads was back at the hotel and as soon as we saw the cars running again we were back down trying to avoid the sound meters and piss off some Lotus's (in a nice way). However me and Hugh in his CivicTypeR immediately got black flagged for dangerous overtaking, Hugh go black flagged twice again for noise, Wheels got ablack flag for noise then...........wait for it........Curly in his Shoppa got black flagged for noise. At this point i think the Noise Police were taking the piss!

We then got down to business. Flow had managed to drag me round and speed me up to the point he was getting in my way. He was shod in MSS and me on my Cups and differing grip levels on the faster corners was VERY NOTICABLE. I had some flashing SMG cog light when hot but otherwise car was running well.

THen in my last session i managed to feel the flow oft he circuit and really increased corner speeds especially in the chicanes and logged two laps around 1m 51-52s which felt great. I then proceded to BUZZ all the sound meters in 3rd gear and got black flagged big time!

Heat was getting to us all so we packed up, gave back our transponders (so they could check who was breaking the sound meters) and headed off.

I shot off to the tunnel early via Antwerp and Brugge and was home by 9.30pm meanwhile the Mancs headed for Rotterdam for the Love Boat back to Hull and the land of Eccles Cakes.

Yes Shim another good write up you might be better packing that building game in and becoming a journo :) It went so fast I didnt realise we did so much we had some good laughs and I couldnt believe it when I got a black flag for something other than dangerous driving. I told the big Belgium dude he must be wrong I said the car is electric :banghead: I lifted the bonnet and showed him the battery he still wouldnt have it!!!!! and blared out your are too loud too loud I told him from Manchester and we all talk like this and he went off in a huff :hahaha: It was good to meet or Belgium CSL brothers and the cars looked superb and went well, you boys need to come over to blighty and do some big boy tracks like Donny. silverstone and Oulton :smokin:For me you can not but enjoy Spa its a fantastic circuit pity it wasnt wet and the little shopper might of took a few more scalps, Zandvoof was a brill circuit loads of camber changes, blind corners and blind crests and a load of Dutch headbangers, lastly to Zolder - I enjoyed the first half of the track but those little s's spoilt the fun of the circuit and I wont mention the noise nonsense. Sorry to the guys for that booking that dodgy hotel even though it was only 40 euro's a night at least ended up in front after emptying his fridge and wine cellar ;) Highlight of the trip was seeing Huws face when shimmy was trying to dry hump his leg in the salsa bar after too many  :hahaha: and got to mention Shane was flipping flying again at Spa just a pity I never had a chance to get a lap. Wheels I just dont know he does it, absolutely full on it spot on with his lines and the only bloke to scare me all weekend when he took me for a passeneger lap

LoT Organiser: Two of your CSL snot-nose jockeys did a fly-by on my tower at over 400 KNOTS! I want somebody's butt, I want it now, I've HAD IT!
[storm out, then bumps into Curly and spills coffee all over his pants]

Or it might have been like this:

LoT Organiser: You two really are cowboys.

Unnamed CSL driver: What’s your problem, LoT Organiser?

LoT Organiser: You’re everyone’s problem. That’s because every time you go on track, you’re unsafe. I don’t like you because you’re dangerous.

Curly: In case some of you are wondering who the best is, they are up here on this plaque.(turns to Lawsy )
Curly: Do you think your name will be on that plaque?
Lawsy: Yes, sir.
Curly: That's pretty arrogant, considering the company you're in.
Lawsy: Yes, sir.
Curly: I like that in a driver.

Look in events Stu. Donny, 31st Aug.

IT'S THE BIG ONE!!!

Curly: Gentlemen, you are the top 1% of all track hobbydrivers. The elite. The best of the best. We'll make you better. You'll drive at least two sessions an hour, 10 classes inbetween and evaluations of your performance.

We're gonna teach you to drive right to the edge of the envelope, faster than you've ever driven before. More dangerous.

Alexgtt: What are you doing?

Shimmy: Just wondering...............who's the best?

 The build up to Lawsy's post.:hahaha:
