As my car comes up to 10 years old and 100k miles I thought I'd look at the BMW warranty and check that we are still going to be covered.
http://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk/Pages/Home.aspx
Checking just the website I think that the only governing factor other than having The required service history is that at the time of taking out the warranty (at the very beginning for 'Monthly' or every year for 'Annual') the car should be under 100k miles. This is true for both Named and Comprehensive cover which have a policy limit of the price inc vat you paid for the vehicle on ourchase (your purchase).
Driveline cover however is a lesser cover than the other two and has a limit of £5000 payout. But Driveline does allow you to take out the policy after 100k miles
Comprehensive
Comprehensive cover provides our highest level of Insured Warranty protection and covers the majority of mechanical and electrical components in your vehicle.
Insured Warranty can either be purchased annually or on an ongoing, monthly basis. If you choose the monthly cover option, the price is fixed for a 12 month period. You can also choose whether or not you wish to include an excess with your Insured Warranty policy. This excess is only payable in the event of you making a claim, but including an excess in your policy can reduce the cost of your premium.
For details of those components which are excluded from Comprehensive Insured Warranty click here. For added reassurance, you have the option to include BMW Insured Emergency Service with your Insured Warranty. For more details click here.
Please note that Comprehensive Insured Warranty is not available for vehicles with over 100,000 mileage (at the time of purchasing the warranty).
Named Component Cover
Named Component Insured Warranty protects against mechanical and electrical breakdown for a wide range of specified components in your BMW.
For details of the specific components which are covered by Named Component Insured Warranty please click here. For added reassurance, you have the option to include BMW Insured Emergency Service with your Insured Warranty. For more details click here.
Please note that Named Component Insured Warranty is not available for vehicles with mileage over 100,000 miles (at the time of purchasing your warranty).
Driveline Cover
DriveLine Insured Warranty is our basic level of warranty and protects the main components that contribute to the engine, transmission and drive-train of your BMW. DriveLine cover is available to all vehicles, regardless of mileage.
For details of the components which are covered by DriveLine Insured Warranty please click here. For added reassurance, you have the option to include BMW Insured Emergency Service with your Insured Warranty. For more details click here.
So it seems I can continue my Named Component cover past 10 years and 100k miles as long as it is the continual pay monthly policy.

Are BMW suggesting the car may self destruct after 60k miles?!
So if you want a cheaper warranty its to take a monthly one out before 60k and never let it expire?!

Ok, ask am selling my car I have had cause to speak with Mondial about the transfer question. I spoke with a guy called Jason who told me that he too had owned a CSL till a couple of months ago :)
They have confirmed that when the new owner buys the car they have 10 days to take over the policy on my terms, despite the fact that technically they are cancelling my policy and replacing it with a new one. If the 10 day limit is breached, the new owner can still take out cover, but it will be on new terms.
As to price, it is dependent on mileage when the policy is taken out. As my car is <60,000 miles the new owner would pay the same £77 I do and this would continue till beyond 100,000 because the policy had been taken out when the mileage was below 60. This was better than I had expected;)

Just been quoted £73 P/M or £796 a year with £250 excess through BMW, does this seem a good price.
billyboysm3
11-05-2012, 11:56 AM
Yes, does that include roadside assist and european cover?
Right yesterday I got quoted for 39k miles after doing my initial year of paying over the odds as warranty had lapsed.
First 12 months after lapsed warranty = £82 per month - £250 excess with road cover
Now:
£77 per month = £100 excess and road cover
£63 per month = £250 excess and road cover

FYI I just purchased a Named Component Cover BMW Mondial cover for my 46k csl and I paid £85 a month with £100 excess.
However the warranty excludes cover for any modifications, in my case brakes, suspensions and exhaust.
Is it normal?
They also told me that some BMW dealers could make some problems in repairing under the cover with a car with such mods.....it is their discretion..
Have you ever heard problems of this sort before?

Gareth. What about cars with a cage?
My thinking at the minute is fuck the warranty as it will save me approx £1600-1700 a year when you take into consideration the BMW service costs.
Servicing myself costs fuck all.
If there is the slightest chance a claim will get knocked back with warranty then ill not renew.
I only need the engine, box and diff covered.
But........A. I have a spare diff sat here
B. I have a spare gearbox sat here
C. Ill just get the engine built to 400bhp if it pops. (might just do this as a precaution anyway;):finga:)
What you guys reckon.

Shimmy, this is what we have said all along.
The 10 day thing just means the warranty does not stop then take 1 month for cover to then re-start.
The savvy out there would not get warranty at all, and only get it if they had an issue. 1 month later all sorted:smokin:

I agree with Shimmy about the cheating thing..... although I would be very pissed if they wouldn't pay an engine or box failure blaming the mods.....that would make me very pissed.:banghead:
Ultimately I pay a premium and I maintain the car at the highest level ( I do my part) and I expect the insurance to do their part in case something goes wrong.
Anyway i am happy to see that at least at Elms they are serious.....i am not sure other BMW dealer is London where i live would be so proffessional.....:wanker:

Just completed month 11 on modial warranty as bought car and it had expired.
Been paying monthly and under 60k miles.
After month 11 payment you can ring up and amend the excess and get the normal renewal rate.
Modial cancel your policy and start you up a new one. You then have to pay the first month again by debit card then direct debit as normal.
I know I have mentioned this previously, but if you buy a CSL with no warranty and under 60k, and under 60k miles by the time you renew the above works.
As if you do not ring them you will continue to pay the more expensive warranty price for the rest of your ownership/life
