View Full Version : CSL track rim options

Hey guys,

what are you using? I was thinking of getting some track rims. I don't want to shell out a grand for another set of CSL's although I have no problem paying a few quid for a nice set of race wheels, BBS, Team Dynamics, Compmotive etc

Does the CSL handle better on the OEM 18's or the CSL 19's?

what are you using? As they say, a picture says a thousand words, don't be shy:thumbs:

also are the 18' track tyres much cheaper than 19' cups?

I went the CSL BBS rims and car handles's very well, but some of the guy's run the 18's

Gloss black CSLs, though if I had to choose again, would go 18 inch as I understand more wheel and tyre choice (and cheaper cups)

i think if you do a small amount of trackdays then just buy CSL rims and stick 19 inch Cups on them. They look better for summer.

But 18 inch rims and cups a bit cheaper and you can rotate to lengthen tyre life, plus have a bit more front grip.

Just make sure the rims you buy for track are pretty strong an not cheap and brittle!

Got a very good deal on them used with a new set of tyres fitted. Hadnt set out looking for OZ, I actually wanted a 2nd set of OEM wheels. But these make much more sense for track.

Not sure on the offset but im running 10mm spacers front and 30mm rear. They sit very well in the arches.

Just had a set of team dynamics delivered 18x9 et30 all round and have a set of 265 cups to go on them.

Plenty Of clearance with my current set up of oem csl's 235/265 cups and 12mm spacers front and back.

To keep things similar I should be able to run rears with 12mm spacers and change the front to 3mm spacers, accounting for the change in widths and offset? Does this sound right?

Ie rear : et27 with 12mm spacer on 9.5 inch wheel being pretty similar to
et30 with 12mm but only 9inch wide

And front : et44 with 12mm on 8.5inch similar to
Et30 with 3mm spacer on wider 9inch rim?

Think ive confused myself with all the numbers :clown:

Correct. IIRC correctly I just ran spacer on rear. 10 or 12mm.

I also ran et20. Rubbed very slightly on high G corners, but I mean slightly,

This is et20 with 10 or 12 mm spacer.

Thanks for all the replies,

i'm thinking of pulling the trigger on some team dynamics 18x9 et30 all round?

Can any one confirm is this the right size or should I be going for a different offset. I don't want them rubbing or to have to roll the arches:gayfight:

If i fitted a different offset could i get away without spacers? I have AP's front and rear...

I assume 265/35 is ok on 18x9

finally, gloss black or matt black?:hahaha:

Ive had both gloss and matt, both et 30 and et20. All in 18x9.

I recommend 18x9 et30 with a 12mm rear spacer.

Also go matt black as I discoloured my gloss ones in the centres, due to heat from my brakes. I was driving it hard and the heat transfer faded the centres after 3 trackdays. Matt black FTW.

I also ran 265 35 18 with zero issue on 9j rim.

never tried but even if the rims fit...the problem you may have is the extra suspension travel especially on track so you may get rubbing.

Tbh if you do trackdays and have decent tyres it is a bit of a false economy not upgrading suspension as you pay for it in tyre wear anyway.

yeah, I'm well aware of the benefits of coilovers. I had an e36 Track tool with KW's etc but I'm trying to avoid molesting the CSL as long as possible, i just really like the way it handles on the road and don't want to go messing with the suspension just yet.

I probably will go for coilovers eventually. I'm doing a trackday tomorrow so i'll see what the handling is like and make a decision then..

with 265 fronts i reckon we have about 10mm space between Intrax shocks and arch liner rubbing.

My car was about 1mm off damper so i added 3 mm spacer so i am about 6mm off damper and 6 mm off arch.

now with nitron the damper is about 3mm bigger on the threaded spring base so i have less space to get wheel into. i have about 1mm space with 3mm spacer fitted so i reckon i can addd about another 5-6 mm before wheel hits arch. dont do hubcentric 8mm spacers so gonna try Duncs 10mm spacers and see whats what!

I have been comparing these tyres with 265/30/19 fronts which rubbed at et27 however the 265/35/18 are 1.1 inches less diameter so about 13mm less radius and less poking into the wheel arch. So might be easier to work, just keep an eye on the arch rather than arch liner maybe

Still try it on full lock and soft suspension but where it will matter at Donny is compression at Craners or under braking at Redgate.

Correct. IIRC correctly I just ran spacer on rear. 10 or 12mm.

I also ran et20. Rubbed very slightly on high G corners, but I mean slightly,

This is et20 with 10 or 12 mm spacer.

:bigcry::bigcry:makes me want to buy it back.

The wheels fill the arches just right:drool:, where did it rub front or rear.

Not 100%, iirc front and rear, not worth worrying about though.

I had arch rub on the front on et 26 18 x 9 td pro race 265 35 18 yoko a048s, it was this ring trip, not worth worrying about, but just on edge of front tyres. It was only down the fox hole, but I was'nt braking until after the compression so I was motoring:smokin:

That takes some balls, CSL, thats a gps 150+ mph:smokin:

et26, thats a strange offset for the td pro race 1.2, I thought they only come in et15, et20 and et30.

Your previous set up in the Oulton pics was et20 front and rear with a 10mm spacer on the rear, slight rub, was that on the front or rear.

I only ask as Ive ordered a set off 18x9 et31 and want to space the wheels spot on. Thinking 3mm front for et28 and 20mm rear for et11.

TD can et whatever you want, I customised mine based on previous trials.

My et 20 had 10 mm rear spacer, so et 31 with 20mm spacer will have yours 1mm further in than that photo at Oulton and your fronts 8mm further in.

Im happy with my et 26 front and et 16 (with spacer) rear that Im now running.

I think the et11 might just be borderline. As Im sure my rears caught very slightly. But as I always advise, try yourself. You are running firmer suspension than my KW clubsport, so should have slightly less lean. Try for yourself, and you can change spacer size to suit. You are also running cups, all tyres have slightly different sidewall thickness.

Turner do a 17.5mm spacer I think I'll order them for the rear, less chance of rubbing.
