Ive got a cs, i know its not a csl, but we are from the same family?

Basically, ive got a noisy supersprint system which ive been getting grief when travelling to track days ( from scotland). Particularly croft and oulton.
Ive got a lightweight racing back box, and what i think is an unresonated x pipe centre section, and normal front cats. Am not 100% sure re centre section as not had a look and not an expert, but mechanic says is wide bore un silenced centre supersprint centre part.

How best to drop a few db?

I dont want to be sent home. Am sure will be fine, but have a few belgian trips, few oultons and dont want any hassle.

I,like the drone, but wouldnt miss it. Dont want to drop too many horse, or go to a huge expense.

Any thoughts folks?

Track day bolt on's

Change centre to what?

How best to check?

Thanks,

Gav

i have 100 cell cats, res cetnre and lght race back box and no issues with noise anywhere inc oulton, bedford and snett.

billys is non res centre and was much worse,

id say take out the centre section and replace with OEM. It makes it quieter, less droney and no diff to bhp:thumbs:

Cheers.....

You would expect then ours would have similar volume?

Oem fit race box without much fuss?

Would centre section be saleable?

Its the lack of silencer in center section that makes it so loud / sounds like the same center Billy has/had . OEM center section will bolt up to super sprint back box no problem

You'll be fine at most track days with that setup except maybe Castle Combe and Croft as you've already mentioned. Bedford is always a pain due to the airbox noise afaik.

I have SS manifold, unresonated centre and lightweight race back box mated to a standard cat section - 100db - very few issues.

Gav, just seen this, my setup was
SS Cats / SS centre section and SS lightweight back box = Loud
Best its been when warm is 105db so right on the limit.
Worst 111db at Snett.

Last weekend I changed the centre section to standard. This has made a massive difference. Still got low end drone but a great deal quieter over 3k revs. Going to get this DB tested at the weekend at either Bedford or Snett so Ill let you know how I get on.

Cheers for the tips folks.
Billy, im very interested to hear how you get on please.
Where best to pick up standard centre section?
Was thinking about asking one of the companies that fit supersprint set up and ask if they'd be willing to sell one taken off another car. Thorney?

What thoughts please?

Or see if the CS centre pipe is the same as a standard M3, if so there are normally a few about on ebay or m3cutters.

Gareth should know.

If the weather is ok here at the weekend Ill get it DB tested but doesnt look good, as Snett is the closest track to get tested on Sat.

The Supersprint centre pipe is one circular pipe that allows the air to flow free.

Im hoping changing the centre section gets me down to 102db

Gav, so you have standard cats, SS centre Pipe and lightweight race and failing static 105db test?

I have SS headers , SS metallic cats , SS resonated center pipe and race backbox (not lightweight) .
And my car is around 95 DB .

Basically Billy that is right.
Havent personally looked at centre section as cant get that far under.
But mechanic say... Standard cats, larger bore centre section that supersprint on it. So presume that is right
Defo has lightweight racing back box.

I havent failed any noise tests, but have got grief and raised eybrows from them nearly every time at croft and oulton. Got sent away last time, but after pleading etc.

Just dont want to be prevented from going on at any point if i can prevent it.
Particulatly if there is a straightforward solution.

Once was defo due to poor revving technique at testing... Pops etc being quite noisy.

I am intrigued to see what db my GTR will be kicking out, its not too loud when stationary, but being a turbo the noise under load increases more so than N/A.

Hope I dont get kicked off.

Standard cats, SS resonated centre section and SS lightweight race backbox is good for all TD's, takes away rasp (which I really like) and sounds good.

Right then Gav.

Got db tested yesterday.

System now SS Cats, yes they do have cells left in them, standard centre pipe and SS lightweight race still pumping out 107 db when hot.

I pass driveby.

Has anyone got a standard back box i can borrow for a couple of weeks, to fit and work out if its my SS Lightweight that is very very loooooouuuuuuddddddd.

The Standard centre pipe definitely makes the car quieter.

Ok, that's good to know, thanks Billy.

Waiting on a price for oem centre tomorrow. Was (maybe) going for ss silenced centre section, more likely standard.

Hmmmm, if its not made a huge difference to you then i may rethink.

Maybe the wadding gone in yours or something?

Most places ive read say folk with ss lightweight/ standard centre or ss centre silenced fine on track.

What about leaving alone and trying a clip on track day silencer if needs

The cats make it loud Billy.

Go back to standard, I doubt they will make any noticeable difference.

Im putting standard cats on this week before TD on Sunday.

I have got clip on silencers but Ill figure out first if its the cats or back box.

Don't use super traps! Danger of killing the engine.

Lets see if I pass Snetterton DB test on Sunday.

Im guessing 102db

Good luck Billy.

Sourced a csl centre section, on its way.
Will prob take a couple of weeks before fitted.

billyboysm3
27-02-2012, 10:00 PM
Gav, I got 105db on static, but that was after the car was sitting for 40min.

I reckon hot id get 102/103db.

Thats with Standard Cats and centre pipe and supersprint lightweight race back box

gav
29-02-2012, 12:04 AM
Ok.

You keeping it that way or doing anything else now or are you happy with that?

Ill hopefully change next week

Was going to maybe get tested at knochill on sunday but cant do that now.
( not that you get grief there)

billyboysm3
29-02-2012, 09:00 AM
Im keeping it like this. Your back box might just be like mine and runs super looooouuud.

Changing the centre pipe will save you about 2-3db.

But I would get it DB tested first at your local track when warm and then after when CSL centre pipe fitted.

Billy

Sounds like a good idea...

I (may) invest in a set of bolt on silencers in case.

gav

Got tested at croft a few weeks ago.

About 99

Happy with that.

I fitted a csl centre section. Brought it down a wee bit.
Still fecking noisy... But good.

Maybe i get a csl back box

Ive been thinking about changing my milltek back box little bored of it now just wondering if anyone has run milltek race cat and centre pipe with a lightweight supersprint race back box and had a db test? or any sound vids with this set up cant find anything in search.
