Is there any point if what are benefits??I think Lawsy says it all in this quote from another forum Vic.
Having seen a few "mapped" M3's, I would say mapping one is like turning it into a ticking bomb.
The gains spouted are bullsheite too. The effects IMO are placebo more than actual results.
My advice dont map an M3.
I have customers who want their N/A engines mapped, I turn away money/profit and tell them its not worth it. The gains when done safely are not worth the cost, as they are minimal.

Very good question Vic
Benefits are very small on a standard or even slightly modified car. A good tuner will get a couple of bhp extra and make it a little more progressive on the throttle. It can remove the limiter and make sport normall on.
Down sides could be more if there is damage or warranty voided

Some N/A engines respond well to remaps in standard form.
The s54 is not really one of them.
I am yet to find datalogging from standard to mapped cars that proves they work.
Ask a well regarded tuner if you can datalog immediately before the map and immediately after. I guarantee they say it takes 500 miles for the effects of the map to really take place. But if they do a dyno run before and after, the after always shows big improvements instantly. Work that one out;)
By datalogging I mean Performance box etc etc.
