Wheels +slicks

Looking for recommendations/options for a set of wheels and slicks for the csl that will be better than cups?

DuNC ??The slicks will only be better than the Cups if the conditions are right. Other than that, I wouldnt waste me time looking for anything better than Cups as imho, and in the opinion of many others on here, there is nothing better.
A question re running slicks Derek - is your car caged ?
Im running a set of 18x9 TD Pro Race 1.2 ET30 rims with Cups at minute, and with the geo I have, they have lasted really well, as i have been able to rotate them front to rear, others question the square set up, but it works alright for me ...even if its wrong !!:hahaha:

A couple of guys (JonnyS and the Donk) were also thinking trying Slicks but after speaking to the lads at Simpsons, decided against it. For the reason DuNC mentions above, lack of cage.

I don't know the ins and outs but the long and short of it was, don't do it unless you've got one. Maybe one of them well be along in a bit to give their intel, ;-)

Id hazard a guess at the added rigidity of the shell coupled with the saftey fact that you will have x amount more grip which in turn = x amount more speed so if things let go you are going to hit something x amount harder???

Interested to hear the accurate answer.

Other things need to be considered as well, like suspension, geo, tyre temp. Slicks let go without much warning, not progressively, so an off is more of a risk, hence the cage recommendation.

Slicks = different suspension = stiffened bodyshell. You cant simply add lighter stickier tyres to a road car and expect to go quicker or it to handle better. The additional grip adds extra load and if you use slicks in a standard car, you could end up twisting things out of shape.... wheresa im my case ...Im as twisted as they come anyway !!:hahaha:

I've been running slicks on all my cars for last 10 years plus caged or uncaged slicks do need correct geo for maximum effect but run longer laps high temps you can feel the tyre, the grip and can feel when it starts to go off its not a light switch effect, drive to your limits treat them/ car with respect and don't take the piss the feedback is immense
