Guys,
Went to see a SG CSL with 54k on the clock at a BMW dealership. Do you guys recognise the plates?
current plate: YM53 KZL
Plate transfer history:
2003-2004 YM53 KZL
2004-2005 WG3
2005-2008 YM53 KZL
2008-2010 M2 KYT
The car looks/drives great. At 50K the head gasket was replaced (dealer said nothing was wrong with the head). New Alternator/cold stat valve pipe?? and new bmw exhaust full. Oh, and the Flap motor was replaced to. Was a little worried about the news on the head gasket - trust this is ok? Or could it be something to walk away from?
Any help?

dont know the car but wouldnt worry about HG and you will get AUC warranty. How much?
I wouldnt walk away from a main dealer if you like the car and price is right, you can extend the warranty before the AUC runs out, anything in the 1st year just take it straight back to them

£28K
Feel its on the pricey side as it's through a BMW dealership. But they will pay for the 1st year AUC.
Thoughts?

looks a nice thing.
Check the log book, when I was looking a main dealer had one that had been exported and then imported back again ... very shady history.
I'm sure you could chip them, I got 3k knocked off what my dealer was asking, theirs is not the only CSL up for sale with that mileage, including warranty and they will know that :)
I told them I was putting the phone down on them and buying the other car I was looking at.
I've got my credit card if you can match the price, I will give you the deposit now  "give me a minute I'll ask my manager"...
30 secs deal done :)
I had already been in and been told what my trade in was.

Checked the history and all the servicing has been carried out in the UK.
Viewed the car earlier today - and have been on/off the phone with the sales rep. He's saying there is no room to move on price, but after the 1st call dropped by £500. Waiting for another call back to see what they can do on the price...
forgot to mention, the current owner is throwing in cup tyres and part used road tyres.
I like it but the price HAS to drop a little more to be right for me..
fingers crossed.

Thanks Shimmy.
Actually, I just found an old post from mattcslnut from 2009 saying he saw this car. He said it was best to avoid!
Think I'll walk away from this one as the vibes aren't right.

In all seriousness though, this is the car I was telling you about earlier on today Shimmy. YM53 KZL ... Chassis number JC98492. This is one with 20K miles in between services :banghead: with patchy history, not all BMW Main Dealer, if I remember correctly. It was the first CSL I went to view with intention of buying 2 years ago @ Lister BMW in Kings Lynn and back then it was on 43K miles @ £28, 995. I'm sorry to say this but I found it to be an over prized shiny turd and walked away when the desperate dealer :clown: started making over the top Part/Ex offers on my daily E39 5 Series Diesel Wagon.

Really appreciate the feedback. Currently sitting at Specialist Cars Stevenage. Its not listed on their website yet, though will be by Monday.
Earlier this year I picked up an E60 525i M Sport from the same dealer ship, the sales rep knew i was looking for one and called when the owner came in to buy a 135i. Apparently he wants to replace the CSL with a GT3 - unless I misheard.
Matt - you're right about the service history. I have a photo copy,
Pre-delivery check - 21/12/03
Running in service @ 1,200 miles - 8/1/04
Inspection 1 @ 21,228 miles - 13/6/05
Inspection 2 @ 39,615 miles - 13/7/07
Oil Service @ 46,660 miles - 16/10/09 (Listers King's Lynn)
Oli Service @ 50,935 miles - 21/6/10
now currently sitting on around 54k
I don't understand why there is such a big gap in the service?!
Guys- ideally, I'm looking for 2004 model with all the options. I won't be tracking the car as it will be a weekend drive so if anything comes along would be grateful if you can hit me up... hate not owning one!

The service routine isn't even correct. I'm sure I don't have to tell thee how it should go, but ^^^ that's an example of how not to do it. Very ropey. Good shout though, pays to check out here,

I suspect this may have been owned by one Damon Gray (WG3) WilcocksonGray was the parents company from Chesterfield. He also ran Branded Untouchable and tried many performance enhancements when he had it & reputation for driving Hard.
Was it one of the cars in the Total BMW or BMW CSL thrash day??? Some from here may be able to recall if they were there too.
I do recall Damon could not trade car with our local BMW dealer as they would not have it at any price & believe at time they would not extend warranty.
I would certainly double check out history.
Apologise in advance if this was not the car owned by Damon but better safe than sorry.
Good luck in your search though.

CSLs should be serviced every year or at least every 6 months the engine oil should be changed.
The fact that some are not serviced for longer than this without servicing is quite worrying?
How long do you plan to keep the car for? If it was short-term it probably wont fall apart.

It seems that way at present :smt090 although it's a bad time of the year to be selling such machinery :smokin:

On the other hand there's hardly any for sale at the moment, so that should help to keep the prices firm even in the Autumn.

I think what's required is a bit of clubbing together and a spot of "Price fixing" ;) After all it's a very limited market :smokin:

I am surprised in general there seem to be CSLs with "low" mileages and lots of owners in general.
There was a BMW Approved Used Car M3 CSL with 5 owners and 30k miles!

No surprise really. It's quite common for "Special" cars like the CSL :smt055 to be owned by many people for only a short while, just long enough to scratch that itch.
The chap I bough mine from only had it for 6 months (he was scratching that CSL itch). Same story with Porkers, Fezzez and Lambos as well :smokin:
My local OPC just around the corner have 2 year old Porkers with 2-3 previous owner, one of whom is probably a Porsche dealer themselves.

Agreed, the flash stuff always has a few extra owners. Punters buy, keep less than 12 months and get bored. Flog it on and cross another one off the list.
