Hi all,
I know it could be a hard one to answer but got quoted £67/month on a £250 exess. £87 no exess.
Looking to use the car for few track days and runs to the lakes. The car as 38000 + miles.
I owned a Mustang 2005 supercharged that i played around with and Viper and i wouldn't have bothered with it as i knew they where very much bullet proof.
I have seen in this forum, changed Diff, changed engine, changed gear, funny vanos :smt085 .
How reliable are these cars and should i defenetly go for one with 38000 miles.
Thanks.
Eduardo.

Keep it - especially if you intend to track the car. ;)
Oh, and keep it on the monthly payments too!

i think its worth it for piece of mind. ive gone for zero excess this time at £80 a month. last year i had power steering pipes a diff and a couple of seals replaced. this year so far just a pair of springs. mines on 54k and use it very little at the mo + its better to have it come resale.

I would definitely say renew the BMW warranty.
Having owned a E46 M3 with BMW warranty and now the CSL without warranty, i've learnt my lesson on that one as the warranty would have saved me over £3k this year.

The car doesn't have a warranty at the moment but will defenetly put my mind a rest.

Sounds interesting. Just worried that when things go wrong with the CSL we are talking £2000 +.
But I guess if the £2000 are covered its not bad for the amount.
Eduardo.
Let me know if you go through with it, looking for warranty too.

Don't waste your money, it appears to be breakdown cover not a warranty.

Warrant doesn't cover track days (tracked) or modified car's. You may get away with it you may not - BMW not worth it IMO.

Hi, also just bought csl and 2 diff seals have gone estimated £420+ vat will more than likely extend warranty and I only cover 3k a year .IMHO worrying about £67 a month is better than what a bmw repair could be ,for me think it's 38p a mile could be bad idea who knows. :smt120

I'd definitely go for the comprehensive warranty rather than the "named components" option (and definitely not "driveline" as the cover is insufficient). I had named components the first year, and had a bunch of things that weren't covered - diff seals being one of them :banghead: Comprehensive isn't that much more expensive for much better cover.

Warranty all the way.
Pick mine up from the dealers on Sat after having some sensors, the bonnet adjusted and the Diff replaced.
I have the named component cover and am on 67000miles.
Quite expensive for me due to the mileage but has to be done. :smokin:

How odd :smt017 I'm on "Named Components" BMW cover and I got a shiny NEW Diff + New Fuel Pump last year, no problem :smokin: It's all down to the Dealership you use I guess  If I were U I'd have a word with your dealer who refused your diff seal claim. It's part of the drive train and should have been fix under "Named Componenets" cover :banghead:
BTW, what else did they refuse to fix ?

Named Components covers the Diff for sure... But it does not cover any oil seals on the car - says so clearly in the wording.

Luck You  that's got to be one of the easiest fixes on the CSL, almost as simple as the stuck Carbon Airbox flap I had @ the Ring in April, robbing me of power and me thinking maybe the HD was on the way out :banghead:

When you say track not covered, is that only if something goes wrong on the track or if they know you have done track days they will not cover anything.

Yes,
Providing the car is fully serviced up then it's possible.

Is there a "Buy back in" charge or can you just start the monthly payments?

You just ring up BMw Mondial and choose the policy, excess and annual or monthly contract.
They leave it up to you to prove later that the cr is properly serviced and maintained so don't just presume just because they have accepted the money, you'll get a pay out!
Monthly of your car is below 60k miles means that I won't go up at 60k miles as the contract doesn't expire, whereas if you pay annually you have to renew every year.
HOWEVER policies are limited to the purchase price YOU paid (you will need proof if they ask at any time) therefore monthly policy means as contract doesn't expire you have lifetime limit to claims whereas annual policy you have ability to claim up to value of car every year, but no guarantee they will renew every year!
No inspection and you can't claim in first month of policy (but the day after is ok):)

I don't have a BMW warranty, for me, it's not worth it.
Few reasons, it's over 60K (63K to be exact), I do very limited mileage.
When I bought the car I paid for the engine to be pressure tested and also had it inpsected. I also don't rate the BMW dealers near me (infact their shite)and take the car to my local indie.
Ive decided to put £50 a month away and see how it goes.
So far Ive spent £166 on the throttle flap and are quids in , for now
Other things I've replaced have been W&T

Its a tricky one to be sure. For me, anyone who wants to play the "no modified/track cars" card would take one look at mine and just laugh.
I did get caught out with the SMG pump failing which was a pricey fix, made somewhat more opportunist for the dealer since the car was locked in gear so would have been a nightmare for me to get it to UB - had to AA it to the local stealer for bumrapage.
Given that the SMG has just been done, realistically I think I'm only "at risk" on the engine. Shimmy has posted up elsewhere you can get a 2nd hand motor for £3k, I'll hold him to that then ;-) I guess the saving grace is that its not a FI engine - they seem to be far happier at lightening your wallet !
preventative maintenance is my friend, so regular fluid changes and check ups. Oh and the car as well ;-)
