Wow. Damn VRT probably still rules it out though :(
I tried checking but you have to refer the car to Rosslare. The new online checking system is a balls as they've removed the majority of niche cars..

Yeah, I reckon the VRT would still be fairly steep on it here Niall, and a lot higher than what they're quoting for CSLs now

VRT?
I think its Vehicle Registration Tax - the original posters were Irish, so i'm guessing to import that car from the UK to Ireland you must have to pay it on top?

It's a rip-off tax in Rep of Ireland Shim. Any new car sold here has this added to the purchase price, which is why an E92 M3 here costs over €100K. They also apply this tax (on a sliding scale for the year) to imported cars, and a 2003 CSL is currently costing €5500 to bring in. Then you've annual road tax of €1566 :banghead:

Also they base the tax on 36% of a value they determine for the car, not what you actually paid so for the GT3 they probably still value it circa €50k which would mean €18k import duty :banghead:

UK plates are a bit of a give away in the south. They'll impound the car if you're caught plus a fine, which is more than likely as 90% of their tip off's come from jealous neighbours..

They're fairly strict about it, and the customs and exise lot swoop quickly on anyone they think is now resident and still on a UK plate. I've even heard stories of them setting up check points outside the Intel plant in Dublin and pulling over anyone with a GB or NI plate on the car. I think officially you're supposed to declare the car to them by the end of the day after you bring it in
The only way around it is if you have lived abroad for more than 12 months and then move here with a car that you've owned for more than 6 months. I did that a couple of years back with my 335d and saved a VRT tax bill of over €10k

Whereas they value a B5 RS4 at €3688, so the VRT on that is just €1300. It even states on their site that the car was subjected to 96% depreciation in the last 10 years! Sure it's just an old Audi
