Well done Shane  I knew you'd be back in the CSL sooner rather then later.

What's the story ?

Cheers lads

It comes with ss race lightweight, revalves KW clubsport, AP bbk front and rear, milltek cats and centre section, few extra carbon bits inside, and all the original bits Inc. BMW warranty too.

She is a 90k'er and few stone chips here and there to be expected, interior does not show the mileage one bit, I have seen 35k cars with worse interiors.
I need to sort a few bits out, I like my cars 100% mechanically perfect, geo is not right, I can feel it and it's chewing front inner Tyres, but overall I am ecstatic.

The front splitters have been wrapped to protect them, in a carbon wrap.

It was not advertised, more so fell upon it, the owner actually approached me, and at the price we agreed it would have been daft not to buy it.

The e92 was fast, very fast, but the way I drive, destroying a set of Tyres every track day is too much.

I did say the CSL was the best car I had owned which suited my needs 100%

Yup ... first prize to Matt for the detective work :hahaha:.. Shane and I kinda knew who would uncover the plot :hahaha:

Yes, is with much sadness im now not a CSL owner, but glad it's stayed on here, and gone to someone I know who's gonna continue to use it, as it's deffo not a garage queen, and needs tracking ;)

Must admit when I got up early yesterday morning to give her one last clean, was with a little lump in throat, and when shane burbled down my road heading home in it was gutted ..

But had a load of fun and great trips, picked it up on 30k ish and passed her on at 90k ish in around 3.5 years off ownership..

Will still be doing ring trips, but on the hire / RSR whilst wafting down in the new machine.

And off course as the CSL reg Lifestyle Coach and Social Secretary, you wont be rid of me that easily !

We now have a CSL register support Vehicle ;-)

Hi Lawsy,

So the trip to the Dark side endeth for now.

I would expect that with 100k on it and
all up togethere, it will go very well.

Block now all de-stressed, everything all honed
in and ready for right foot inputs.

I would have wiped the head off, if its not
been done in the last 20k, de-coked it,
checked the valve guides etc light skim,
new Gaskets and I bet it will be very
responsive and pull very well.

On the Tank-

Tyres apart, would like to know your thoughts
of the E92 M3, as a chassis, as it does have
the multi link rear, and a lot of the
components are alloy, front subframe
included.

At 1600 even 1500 kg's its unbalanced in that
its weight transfer per axle must be considerable
at load, but down near 1350 or say 1300kg then with
more O/A Track width up front, and say 450 BHP
which is an easy real world gain power wise, I keep thinking
a CSL would be second best.

S65 in the E46 is nice but, the boat anchor R T Arms
would have to go and then you would be in the
pound seats.

When you have a spare five would really like to
hear your opinion on the ''TANK'.

Many thanks,

Regards,

The Gorilla.

lol ! Cheers dude..

Always fancied one tbh, and needed something I could not compare to the CSL, totally other end of the scale, it shifts along too ( in a straight line ) for a tank, 7 ish seconds to 60 :hahaha:

And also wafts about effortlessly when cruising, was in london last night as one of mates was having a birthday do, and must admit felt nice smoking about in it :smokin: ( yes I wasn't drinking for a change )

Now I can say thanks Daz, the easiest sale of a car ever, if only every buyer was like me:beer:

I will look after her and get her minted up, and use her properly, she will be perfect, but deffo no garage queen in my ownership. A full on clean track slag.

this weeks plan, before the ring trip.
.........geo (who did it Daz? its miles out:whistle:),
.........fit full set of cup+ tyres,
.........refurb wheels, swap buckled wheel out.
.........fit new seat/harness,
.........modify my shifter for one armed monkey style,

Cant wait for next week, really looking forward to getting out and back in the CSL groove.

@ Gorilla boy

The E92 imo was a great car, not as balanced or as much finesse as the CSL, but a quick car.

I would be interested to see the weight distribution on the scales, but me and my business partner where wondering where all the weight comes from, all alloy suspension, alloy subframes etc, but theres no denying it is heavy, very heavy. It was fast, but the front was prone to pushing out, more so than the CSL. In terms of grunt it destroyed the CSL, and if you could get the weight down to 1350 it would IMO be a serious bit of kit, providing weight distribution was sorted.

It felt more twitchy than the CSL on the limit.

If done correctly then it could be a great car.

Agree on all of that Shane. I find the V8 more composed up to a point but on the raged edge the CSL is far more balanced with the right geo. Many people have said the saloon is slightly better balanced than the coupe and I think at 6-8 tenths pace it is. On the limit I find the saloon is a touch more progressive. Maybe it has slightly better weight split? But to be honest, fast road driving your always really in that 6-8 tenths pace bracket so perfect for the road.

For me the V8 is a road tool only and the only mod is altered geo so can't comment on track performance.

I was always waiting for you to strip the weight out properly, see how it goes. Would be very tasty @1350kg's

Hi Lawsy,

Did you go any further than Mug of tea
and a scratch, when discussing the E92
Weight reduction with your Business Partner ?

Its just that I was looking into this and
seem to be around 175kgs adrift from
where it would be nice to be, ie 1350/1300 kgs ?

Obvious offeneders removed and or replaced
with lighter eqv, wheels, Brakes, suspension
components, Exhaust, seats, linings, noise installation etc
getting below 1475kgs is not easy.

Even with say Carbon panels, ex the doors / Glass
both not practical on a Road based Track car,
then 1450kg is about it from what I can see,
and still at least 125/150 kg from where you want to be
with the F/R weight ratio creeping towards front
bias at around 55/56% V 45/44%.

The Gorilla.

Yes and seller :hahaha:

Was done last year before the last ring trip, but has done 20k or so miles since then, so really would of needed another before any serious track time, as the bloody UK roads are shit and not ideal to keep the geo spot on, the race cars were geo'd after each day so not surprising it's out .. so yes agree.. ( was done at AMD in essex ) and very well at the time

Regards,

The Gorilla. The big old lump up front is the killer I suppose, as most of the weight saving is aft of the engine, after fitting different wheels, which again, dont contribute to any real weight shift F/R just an overall gross weight saving. Only one thing for it, bulkhead out and move it back mate ! Whats the bonnet made of on the E92? savings there possibly.... but not on your pocket thats for sure !

Hi,

DuncanR- that's the interesting bit.

BMW claim that the new S65 V8 is
lighter than the S54 straight 6.

Thus being a V8, the actual dead weight overhanging
the front axle/ O/A Wheel base is less in
the E92 Shell than the 6 Pot in the E46.
[Part reason why the E46 GTR handles so well]

The E92 M3 Manual Gearbox is approx 10 KG
heavier, and the DCT box another 5KG on top.

But even allowing for some indifference in
the engine gross weights etc, its hard to figure
where this extra weight would / could be
stripped out from.

Regards,

The Gorilla.

The E9x didn't last long....

What are your views on the E9x M3 compared against the CSL? I do not track cars, just use them for weekend fun. Sometimes I feel the CSL is being wasted with just being used for weekend blasts around the snake pass etc, and I was leaning to swapping it for a E9x or M6
