Ok, i am so impressed by how nobody knew what the sport button Did  I'm interested now to know what the collective wisdom is on the steering wheel M track and DSC in general

Does anybody know:smokin: what it really changes?

from personal tests I would say that it disables stability control but leaves traction control firmly on.

All aids are bad aids though and imho they should all be turned off. Their only use is for when you want to switch off on a long motorway journey. Especially with cups on!

Hi,

I have always understood that the DSC works
via the ABS sensors.

Once a rear drive wheel starts to spin then
it soft cuts engine, until the wheel stops spinning.

My understanding is that the 'M Track' button keeps
the DSC off until you reach the upper limits and
then it cuts in ?
May have got this wrong but seem to remember that
steering angle is related as well.

I dislike that you have to turn DSC on as such to drive with
it off, the default setting is all wrong, makes you wonder
what else gets fucked up this way around.

Regards,

The Gorilla.

You may not be interested in how your car works, but I am and i believe it all aids driver understanding and makes you at one with the car:thumbs:

There are g sensors involved too, it knows how much the car is yawing, M Track simply allows more wheelspin and more yaw before it intervenes. Have heard 7 degrees of yaw allowed but don't know how true it was.

The DSC is using an accelerometer (x-y axes), the ABS sensors on the wheels and of course the steering wheel sensor (checks how many degrees the steering wheel is turned and to where).

Nathan I have tried many a time drifting with the M track mode in the wet and the snow.
I believe the drift angle is limited to 25 degrees and then the typical DSC is cutting the drift. I reckon 7 degrees is too little.
I personally don't like the M track mode and I prefer DSC off.
I have also realized that "DSC off" vs. "M track mode" in my driving style makes me 1.5 sec faster with the "DSC off" on a 1m30s track with many tight corners.

PS : all the new generation BMWs with the 'DTC' have similar operation with the M track mode... that's why you see 135i, 335i owners drifting with small angles ;) they are doing it the gay way...like my brother does in his gay 1 series coupe :gayfight:

Hi,

Shimmy - Quote -

''What do you mean?''

I was referring to the fact that the default
position for the CSL is with the DSC on.

Its another software layer that has to be in
check.

Bit like Computers nowadays, running a
host of software that most never want
and which contributes to slower operating.

I agree that the default setting of the "DSC on" in the CSL is inefficient and definitely g@y.
Everytime I start the engine on my CSL I need to switch it off.
