The Coltness Car Club have issued the following statement regarding the above event in the wake of Colin McRae's death:

The Colin McRae Forest Stages rally will go ahead as planned on Saturday 29 September.

With the full and enthusiastic support of the McRae family, Coltness Car Club will stage the final round of this year’s County Saab Scottish Rally Championship, in Perth and the surrounding area as usual.

The McRae family has been an integral part of Coltness Car Club for nearly 40 years, first with Jim as a member, before Colin and Alister joined. The Club was prepared to comply with the family’s wishes whatever they were, but Colin’s wife Alison said it’s what Colin would have wanted.

When the club first took on the organisation of a round of the Scottish Rally Championship 14 years ago, it was Colin, Jim and Alister it turned to for support. Colin supported that first event financially and has done so ever since, always taking a keen and personal interest in what the club was doing.

This year he had hoped to run his revolutionary new rally, the R4 as Course Car as he was keen to get more mileage on the car, but it may not have been back from the workshop in time. If that happened he was prepared to wheel out his Ford Escort just so he wouldn’t let the club down.

No doubt Alison and Jim were thinking of that level of enthusiasm when they told the rally organisers at the weekend that the rally should go ahead. So the news is, the event will be run as a tribute to Colin.

Scotland hasn’t just lost a world champion, Coltness Car Club has lost a true and loyal friend.
