View Full Version : The funniest thing that happened at Spa...

It was a glorious day, sunshine all day, no clouds, no rain, no DuncanR:thumbs:;)

A few strange and funny things happened.

1. The Noise testing man walked into my garage at 8am and put a dB sticker on my car. I didn't ask him if he wanted me to turn the engine on, I thought it might be rude!

2. I went up to the briefing and as I walked in everybody was walking towards the guy at the front. So I copied and he gave me a wristband.....great

3. I sort of wished I'd then been in the briefing as I wouldn't have missed the bit where he explained that you can pull to either side or the middle of the track to let others overtake, that you can overtake both sides, in corners and in convoy......

4. I got put in a garage NEXT to the brasserie entrance, next to a load of caged French M3, supercharged M3, slick shodden M3 and CSLs AND not one came past all day:thumbs:. I say let's invade France now

Lastly My garage had an Evo VIII that was tricked up to 500bhp, looked sweet, and the guy was dead genuine (and not a northerner which was good), so I said to his that's great but is it reliable and he said yes, been perfect so far. Anyway two sessions later by 10.30 it had blown to bits the fuel regulator which was a piece of aluminium aftermarket crap, fitted with a good piece of steel threaded connector. He promptly tried to do a track side lash up at which point I wondered if I should change garages before he blew us up. He managed to fleck around for 6 hours before putting it on the trailer he came with and driving off into the sunset. Lovely looking car and the bonnet never went down all day!

I'm in Germany still so videos and photos to follows, best lap 2m 52.6 amid the only gap in loads of traffic all day (but that was the only down side of what was a great day and well workout the impending divorce :(

A taster pic below of my trying to keep up with FLOW

http://i401.photobucket.com/albums/pp97/shimmylasco/CSL/5a6ca0d6.png

BUT the comical highlight of the day was about 2pm when a slight fella with a grey jumper came into my garage looking very sheepish. He promptly apologised and went on to explain how he had hassled me out on track, pushed my hard then ovetook me in his Lancer Evo VI, almost taking me out as he pushed a little bit too hard....I managed to stifle my grin and suggested he went on to one of the other grey BMWS around and apologise to someone else:banghead:

I had a great time with FLOW in his horrible black CSL, we had a few good sessions trying to get the better of each other but I think eventually agreed there was very little in it and after he had cooked his Tyres we went on to find other bait. FLOW started off by getting a good two laps out in front and I was struggling to keep up, but then realised I had Mook from OPL in my car and a whole tank of juice. Was understeering a little bit where I hadn't understeered in the morning, but eventually just about got it back to on track. FLOW was quicker out of La Source and thru Eau Rouge for sure, but by later in pm although he still had better lines and speed thru Eau Rouge I had managed to get the power down without Mook and very little in the cars, maybe his a little bit hotter at the top end with his 288 cams.

Fantastiche......

It was a great day !!
There were 200 cars registerd , so a clear lap was impossible .
But on the track it was ok .

In the morning i met shimmy on the track and he let me pass so he could hunt me down ;) .
And it was really fun , i was faster at some corners and you at some others .
in the afternoon this was how my front cups looked like

http://imageshack.us/m/833/6846/img0128km.jpg

So i fitted my BBS wheels with PS2 tyres at the front but this was good for 2 laps but after the tyres got hotter i got alot understeer .

Too bad my tyres did not last longer , after 5 o'clock the track was almost empty so a good time to do some faster laps , but after i had too go very wide at the radillion i called it a day and drove home . :banghead:

I also did a passenger lap with shimmy and he is a better driver then me and the intrax is alot better then the bilstein .
Only too bad he has got the wrong color of CSL :blalalala:

I found in the pork 10mph difference at end of straight, but only my first time there, so I am far from expert.

Looks like you two guys had great fun, pity I missed it.

We will have to get together some time this yr Shim, see how much faster the CSL is than my stock E92. ,

I have managed to put together a couple of vids. First one is of my two fastest laps, both were in the last 45 minutes of the day and were the only two clear laps ALL DAY, honestly, and both were 2m 52.6s, beating my previous best of 2m 54.0s

Interesting points to note, first lap 95mph min speed through Eau Rouge (Radillon) which was pretty typical of my better speeds, whereas second lap minimum speed is 100mph which is a big jump. Data shows by end of th straight second faster apex lap was 0.3s up. I lost all this under braking into the first corner,:banghead:

Later in the lap by B1 the second lap was up another 0.64s but then this was all lost compared to the first by the lap end. This means that just out of these two laps it may have been possible to sneak into the high 2m 51s range.

So here's is video one, enjoy and I'll post up video two tomorrow, with a bit more traffic and action.
