View Full Version : Newbie - Whats a 100k CSL worth

Hi All,
First post on here, so hello! I was on Bm3w and Mtorque.
My mates got a 100k mile CSL that he is selling to buy another CSL but with less miles.
He has had the car for 5 years, bought it with 20k on the clock, and uses it everyday. Never been tracked.
Bodywork and interior is mint. Just had Inspection II.
It had the running in service and the next service at BMW then our local Indy has done the rest, all with genuine parts, castrol Oil and the inspection I and II have been done properly who I totally trust.
What do you think its worth? Plus does anyone have one on here with 115k-130k.
Obviously no warranty so common problems could be SMG Pump, alternator etc.
Ive had 4 M3's so not to fussed about wishbones and tyres as thats a given.
So im not sure whether to take a punt or spend 28k and get one with 30k+
miles and warranty.
My 03 M3 SMG is mint with 61k and has BMW extended warranty which has been fleeced.
Many thanks in advance for your feedback as this is doing my nut in.
One last thing, Ill only be doing 5k a year.
Billy

Would think ~18-19K mate...
There are a couple of late 60's mileage for sale on here currently at ~23K.
Good luck..

Welcome to the register:thumbs:.As Yanto says probably £19000.You dont really hear of SMG pumps going on the CSL as you do with the stock M3,there are a lot less CSLs of course. At that mileage the alternator has probably been replaced.;)

Hi Billy,
Firstly welcome to the site :)
Right, having bought a CSL with 108k on the clock for £20k, I'll give you my thoughts.
The Price with the CSL's is much the same as the M3'sin that there are alot of things to lookat which effect the price. You say tyres etc don't bother you but they should, let's not forget a proper set of tyres cost minimum £1000, so your kidding yourslef into thinking the car is cheaper than it actually is by discounting these things.
Has the front been resprayed recently? Due to the carbon bumpers the CSL's pick up stone chips very easily and so if you want them looking nice you'll have to respray it every few years which is not cheap if done properly.
Also the wheels, are they in good condition?
I'm sure you've thought of all these things, but if you end up having to put tyres on it, refurbthe wheels and respray the front it'll cost you £3000 ontop of the purchase price so you've got to factor this in.
And male sure the subframe mounts are not cracked - although you can get it repaired foc from BMW it's aloof hassle

Hi James,
Thanks for the post. Tyres are Michelin's , rear new, fronts got 6mm left and alloys have a few scuffs but nothing major.
Ill check out the front bumper later but I can get that done worst case, best mates got a body shop and owes me.
Have you done many miles in yours and is the 108k on the clock been a problem?

Hey Billy.
Is that the S.B. one with a private plate On that I've seen smoking about Cambridge and once @ Barry Kempton's Body Shop about 2 years ago when it was in for some paint refresh ;) with about 85K on the clock @ the time ?
As far as values of a 100K miles CSL, I'd say it's got to be about £20 K if we're thinking of the same car :smokin: little less if it's needing £££ spending on it straight away.
BTW WELCOME to the Mad House  where abouts in Cambridge are you ?

Hi Matt,
That must be the one, as its the only one Ive seen around here for years.
My office's are behind the Sir Isaac Newton Pub on Castle Hill, just off Histon and Huntingdon Road.
Where are you based? You might of seen my old mans razzing about a few years ago, that was the S.G then wrapped in M3 GTR racing stripes, AP'S, number plate B9 LUX.

Hi Billy.
I'm just up the road from U mate  in Impington @ the other end of Histon Rd. and I sometimes buzz by Sir Isaac Newton pub in my S.G. CSL, down Castle Hill :smokin:
CSLs seem quite RARE in Cambridge... in the last few years I've only seen 2 S.B.s (including the one you're considering) and 2 S.G.s (including mine) ;)
No I've not seen B9 LUX about but it sounds COOL  Got any pix of it ?
Let me know if I can be of any help with regards to the 100K miler CSL  If you're really keen to get it you'll do well to take it to Murketts for a Visual Health Check first
They know their CSLs inside out and should be able to pick up on anything that may be imminent

I would agree with what's been said before, £19K- £20K, depending on Condition. Shame it doesn't have FBMWSH, in fact looks like it only has had it's 1200 mile and then the first oil service by BMW. That in it's own is a bargaining tool IMHO, those stamps go a long way.
Check the steering wheels and seats. They wear quite easily and a new wheel is circa £800 but you can get them retrimmed for about £300. Seats? I don't know, haven't heard of any being that badly worn to be honest, funtime would be able to tell you more on that. The seat in fact, might even wear better than the standard leather ones in an M3.
Welcome to the Forum by the way, good luck with the test drive.

Yep just down the road, Simmes had a S.G in Cambridge, it was always parked by King Street. Taking it to Murketts is a good idea.

100k Csl for 20k, you can get bealos with warranty and ap and 60 k for 22-23k
Must be fucking mental paying 20g for a car with 100k on the clock IMO
They are good, but not that good
billyboysm3

Id rather pay the 22-23k for Bealos for peace of mind as well.
But Ill have a look at my mates again tonight as its only around the corner.
Id pay 18k max.
Do you guy's know anything about this one

The 2nd SB that Matt has seen in Cambridge is probably mine & is serviced at the same place as the 100k one been discussed. It always looked in good condition for it's miles & looked after properly

People worry too much about fag packet stats. Milage is just a number, granted there's a strong correlation between milage and wear on a car but don't get too hung up about it.
As for Bealo's, it looks like good value yes, but as for the warranty it runs out in a few months, and I believe he is not paying on instalments meaning when the renewal comes up as it's over 60k it will be something like £2200 per year which I doubt many people would bother with.
Also I'm not sure how good value Bealo's is, the add doesn't cover any of the following:
Tyres - how much tread?
Brakes - when were the disc's and pads last replaced?
Clutch/flywheel - has this been replaced? (if not it's imminent)
Bodywork - Has the front been resprayed recently?
Wheels - any curbing?
The above could add probably £4-5k to the purchase price to put right if it all needed doing. I have no idea if it does or not but i'd defiantly be including these points in my add if they were all plus points.
When I first went to see my CSL there were 5 other at Simpson's, most of them less than half the milage of mine. I looked inside a lot of them and paid close attention to the bodywork etc. Mine was defiantly one of the best as it had just had all the common bit's sorted and the interior was very good condition due to the motorway miles.
All im saying is a car is only worth what someone will pay, and I'd have to see a car and inspect it before I could say how much id pay for it. I don't see how people can say i wouldn't pay more than £xxxxx for it... it could be a dog or the best one you've ever seen regardless of the milage.
;)

Agree with what funtime has said, but i would take it with a pinch of salt. I've been to see many high mileage cars which have been "treated like a princess", "no expense spared", "drives like new". You then ask an owner if the bushes and suspension has been replaced @ 100k? No. All the majority do is service the car, and fix bits as they break. When you get near 100k, a lot of stuff needs replacing if you want a proper car, IMO. Depends if you just want to say you own a CSL, or want something deserving of the brand. Me? I'd rather spend more on a better, lower mileage car, which will be easier to sell.
