Might be doing this myself soon, had one in an E46 I had years ago.
Has anyone tried the intravee system? it displays the title's etc on the screen of the bmw hu

I have the Intravee in my M3 with Nav. Best solution for 16:9 screen by a mile but also works with the single line Business HU.

I have connected the intravee to my csl.
You will need to make up a cd changer lead as the standard csl wiring does not have this. I made up my own wiring loom as I already had the intravee from my old car so thought it was worth using.
It does display the details on the screen, but it is a bit more tricky to use than using it on te nav screen in the old car.
If you are going to keep the factory radio it is the best idea for ipod.

I've got a DICE unit (Silverline), which I had professionally fitted. It's worked perfectly for me. It might not be technically as good as the Intravee unit, but avoids the need to fit the Alpine box as well.
I like the fact that you can choose to navigate either from the headunit with the buttons, or via the iPod directly, and also that the track/artist details are displayed on the headunit. The only downside I've found is that the navigation from the headunit is a bit slow.

Right chaps help required :smt102
A good friend has kindly offered to both sell and help to install the intravee to the mudflapped CSL at the weekend. He also has mudflaps on his M3  Its a cult thing.
Anyway Ian, you mentioned making a lead and I couldn't wire a plug so to simplify this what exactly do you mean? will a lead from an non e46 CSL do the trick or what do I need to acquire before saturday???
My friend currently has this fitted to an E46 M3 with the nav screen so Im sure fitting to the BMW Bus HU will be slightly different.

P.s - on another note, I've decided to organise a group buy for CSL mudflaps seeing as it's clear you all want them :clown:

Going for an intravee set up but im a little worried that I will need the E46 auto changer lead in order to install ?
Was your dension straight forward to install?

Yes, just plugged in to the cd changer socket.
They don't seem to make the same one any more though, it was called an ice link plus or similar.
Hello everyone,
It's quite an old thread, but I would like to know what is the best solution to connect an iPod / iPhone to our cars.
Is it still the Dension?
I'm looking for a "plug and play" solution, but the Intravee seems to require some new leads...
Regards,
Alex

I have a DICE unit to connect an iPod, it works pretty well. Shows track titles on the head unit and you can navigate with the head unit buttons if you are patient enough.

Thank you, I'll have a look at it.
I might as well only put an AUX connection. It seems more simple and would be compatible with other devices...

I bought one of these today: http://www.ebay.de/itm/GROM-BMW-iPod-Interface-IPD3-ID3-Text-E46-E39-X5-Z4-/130490131832?pt=CE_Auto_Hi_Fi_Autoradios&hash=item1e61d16578
I will let you know how I get on. It also supports generic USB devices and AUX input.
Would recommend a proper interface, mostly because I can *just* about cope with plugging one cable in to the phone when I get in the car, but two (aux + charge) is clearly beyond reason. A proper interface should charge the device too. And this one, like many, also has blutooth option which is perfect for when you make a short journey and can't be arsed to take the phone out of your pocket :)
Nice!
I have just ordered a Dension Gateway Lite 3.
As you say, I didn't want to get bothered with 2 connections (AUX + Charger).
I will keep you informed.
i tested grom und Dension... not the real ...
now i use Intravee with my retrofit sat nav, for me the best solution

Just fitted the Grom and am very happy with it. Came with these cool little posi-lock connectors that I was initially suspicous of but actually they work very well. Fitted and working in 15 mins, track names displayed, charges the phone, sat nav (iphone tom tom) fades out the music nicely, all good.
Want the bluetooth add-on though as it doesn't route calls to the car unfortunately.
Hello,
I've just installed the Dension Gateway Lite 3.
It was rather easy to install. The difficult part is to leave enough space on the back of the radio as the adaptor takes some space.
I put the Dension box (which has a USB input) in the glove box and then I put the iPod cable hidden in the center storage box bellow the climate control.
Thank you all for your advice.
Alex
