watched this.....quite unbelievable..
Some graphic images - the dead crowd members at Monza and the fried driver being lifted in the (I think) Fezza...
Always thought the F1 crowd always over did the "improvements in safety debate" but looking at the lack of track safety and medical facilities for drivers back in the day, I now understand !!
Balls of fookin steel...:supz:
(though if I hear Jackie Stewart say once more "I had a 1 in 3 chance of surviving............and a 2 in 3 chance of dying" I think I'll go MAD)

I've seen pictures over the years and it has always puzzled me as to why Jackie Stewart had a spanner taped to his steering wheel.
Couldnt beleive it when he told the story :smt107 these guys were a breed of their own :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Cheers for the heads up Paul  I watched that last night, great program tho, nothing but the utmost respect for those hero's of old:smokin:
those images of David Purley trying in vain to put out that fire brought tears to my eyes, you could see how emotionally torn he must have been seeing a mate burn to death - powerful tv
did they seem to pick on chapman a bit? he wasn't the only one making gp cars after all?

I thought that as well Jim. I guess he was seen to be pushing the limits of the cars more than everyone else so when something gave up and threw the car off the road it had to be mechanical failure.
Could never be proven though as the cars basically turned to ash after they burst into a petrol / oil fulled fire ball.
