Hi, question for the gurus
I have stanard wheels and the previous owner has wanged 275's on the back. I've had the car checked over because the back end felt loose, the garage says the suspension components are tip top. Thinking it was RATB's I ordered a limiter kit too. The garage has installed the kit and the backend feels tighter, but it still doesn't feel 100%. My question is do 275 give that loose feeling when drive like you've stolen it

I had Sessantas on my old M3 and found them OK, but not as good as PS2s.

Depending on what you're used to, you might find the CSL does feel a bit skittish on bumpy roads as the basic setup is pretty stiff.

I’ve just been out 'testing' the car ;) and it feels a lot better with the limiter kit and alignment sorted, but I’m going to get the garage to put some M3 wheels on with 265 rears and see if I can notice any difference.
I don't find the car to stiff, it's more like, the backend not feeling planted during high speed cornering and traction could be better

I still have a massive grin on my chops after smoking the CSL round on empty fast roads for the last 25 minutes, mpg gauge now shows 11 mpg :hahaha:, first proper test and it’s the snizzle, well impressed

I'm now officially CSL crazy :smt049

really needs some good rubber imo

I had 275s on the rear with 245s on the front (GY F1 Assy all round) and got a puncture so replaced rears with 265s (same tyres) and it definitely felt better although I suppose as much down to new rubber as anything? The 275s still had 4-5mm so not overly worn...

Just my experience!

How much tread do they have left on them?

I ran them to try them on my old M3, once they started to wear i.e. <4mm of tread they started to make the car feel quite loose, so I ditched them and got PS2's put back on.

Thanks for that, did you experience similar sort of handling traits as I described on the 275's, in what way was it better with new boots?

Just tighter, more confidence inspiring in fast corners. As I say, I put it down to the new rubber tbh but saw your post and wondered if there was something in it?

Did you fit new rtab as well as the limiter kit or just the limiter kit
If you didn't replace the bushes it's like getting a shower and putting your old skiddies on and expecting to feel clean and fresh;):hahaha:

Right, sorted it

Bit of info for those having similar issues

The car had RTA bushes, limiter kit and alignment done; it felt a lot better, but still not hundred percent.
So today the garage put front and rear M3 19’s on with Conti’s all round for a comparison, car felt totally different, much more planted and quicker to settle into corners, as it should.

I asked the garage if there had checked the tyre pressures, “yes”, was the reply. Anyway I thought I’d check the pressures on the way home with my CSL wheels reinstalled; turns out all four had the wrong pressure in (38-39 PSI) :bigcry:. Put the correct pressures in and it feels nearly as good as it did with the m3 wheels on, not quite as good, think the extra width is still throwing the handling out a bit.

The limiter kit made quite a bit of difference and I’d recommend it as a cheap upgrade.

So I plan to do plenty of track days and replace all 4 tyres with PS2’s or cups shortly

Next up, steering wheel re-trim

Moral of the story, check your own tyre pressures. :smokin:

Glad it seemed an easy fix,

Some garages really don't have a clue sometimes.

On a non-csl note, I just fitted new wheels and tyres to our Golf. After getting the car back on the ground I thought it looked very 'baloony', and was really happy with the wheels. Checked the pressures, a couple of them were as high as 45psi! Was wondering why the ride was so HARD. Put them back down to VW Recommended and it drives and looks alot better.

Sorry about this VW talk, I'll get my coat.
