Hello everybody, I'm John from Southampton and I'm new on here!!
I came on here to speak to CSLMatt and order some brackets for my Porsche Brembo BBK on my car. I have had a little look around the forum and like it, so might hang around if that's ok with you lot. I dont have a CSL, so hope I am forgiven! ;)
I'm not worthy as I only have an E46 M3, not a CSL, but I'd like one if that counts!! I do also have a Honda CBR600RR if there are any fellow bikers here.
Here are a couple of pictures of my baby:

and here is my other baby:

Mods on the car so far are: Angel eyes, LED rears, front Depos, Milltek system, 100 Cell Race cats, Tein Springs, CSL diffuser, tints, CDV Delete, Turner Motorsport RTAB Limiter kit, 3/4 size front number plate, Parrot (non feathered variety).
Mods to follow: Brembo Porsche BBK front and rear, CSL style airbox, CSL cams, remap, new wheels, coilovers, front splitter, CSL bootlid. Lots of CSL bits required!!
Mods to bike: Akrapovic full exhaust system with Carbon 'Hex' can, K&N air filter, HRC inlet trumpets, Power commander, Ignition commander, Ohlins steering damper, tail tidy, different front/rear indicators, blue screen, Rev/shift lights, rear seat cowel.
I've been on the M3cutters website for about a year now (same user name), if any of you guys are on there?

Welcome to the forum mate
With the mods your planning why not sell the M3 as is, put a little cash in the pot and get a CSL?
You wont regret it.
Oh I have a K5 GSXR-600

Hello mate. Thanks for the welcome. Nice to hear from a fellow biker! It looks like biking weather today :supz:
I would love to buy a proper CSL, but my M3 is a 2001 model so only worth about 20p!! There is no way I could afford the extra for a CSL. My plan is instead, to gradually upgrade/improve my M3 to bring some bits inline with a CSL eg engine. I do like all my toys and creature comforts and even as it is, it really is an awesome car, there's just a few points that could do with improvement eg brakes and induction noise!!
I think it's best I dont ever have a ride in a proper CSL, then I wont know what I'm missing!!

Thanks Duncan. I'm glad that people are still talking to me now you know I'm not a CSL driver!! I was worried people might look at me like I own a Citreon Saxo and meet up in McD's car park every night!! :hahaha:
I cant believe you allow people who own Fords on here!!! :bigcry:
Saying that, one of my best mates Matt has always been a Die-hard Ford fanatic. He has owned Series 1 and Series 2 RS Turbos, a 3-door Sierra Cosworth and more recently a 400BHP Escort Cosworth that he converted to Rear wheel drive!! He loved this car so much he said he would never sell it and be buried in it! Knowing how much he loves his Fords, this was totally believable!! When I picked up my E46 M3, I let Matt have a drive. A couple of weeks later he had sold his Escort (for much less than it was worth) and brought an M3!!! That says a lot for M3's!!
Unfortunately Matt copied me a little too much!!!

Same colour, same black leather, same optional extras, same angel eyes, rear LEDS, same Miltek Exhaust!!! It's great that he liked my car so much, he had to get one. It's just a shame it had to be identical! Now if we ever drive round together, we look like a bunch of gays!! :gayfight:

Welcome, enjoy the forum :smokin:
I had a 01 M3 prior to buying my CSL, to be honest I thought the same as you, however, the money I got back from all the mods I had on my M3 (KW's / AP's / Race Cats etc etc etc) put a big chunk towards the CSL, imho the CSL is a far superior car to drive than the M3 was even with £0000s of mods on it.
No you NEED to have a ride in a proper CSL to see exactly whats missing :smt055

I think it's best I don't know what I'm missing at the moment!!
That is kind of my thinking too. A lot of the mods I have bought eg miltek system, 100 cell cats, lowering springs etc I have bought second hand and cheap. It means I can use them and when I do come to sell them on, I wont lose any money on them. If you look at it like that, buying mods for my M3 like this, is the same as putting a little money by towards a CSL. It is like my 'CSL fund' but I get to enjoy the mods in the meantime too!!

haha fair enough
Best way to do it imho, I made some decent money on the parts of my old M3 when I sold it, I ended up buying a MK2 Focus RS hated it, then sold it and came 'home' to a CSL, annoyingly half of the mods I had and sold would have been fantastic on the CSL hey ho.

Don't let Duncan scare you, although that probably is a true story - he is a registered sex pest :hahaha:
Welcome, although you sound like you are already in denial - I joined here when I got my M3, searching for CSL bit's as I wanted to make it like a CSL. Now I'm picking up my CSL this week and glad I didn't waste thousands trying to make mine look, sound, and go like a CSL because I never would have been happy!
Just save, and if you can't save then get a loan :hahaha:
I gave up saving... it only takes a ride in a CSL to man up and ditch the standard M3. :supz:

You're off the cutters too aren't you Funtime? I'm sure I recognise your username!
I am in Denial :bigcry: As long as no-one takes me out in a CSL I'll be fine. Please nobody offer!! Please dont!!
The thing is, my car is worth £10k if I'm lucky. A CSL is well over £20k. I think it is a bit far away from me at the moment. Unless I sell my house..........
They do say 'you can live in your car but you cant race your house'!!!

But the list of mod's which you are planning on doing to your M3 will be minimum £5k...
And guess what... once you've spent £5k on it, it'll still be worth £10k. So then you have to store all the original parts so you can pay to have the car put back to standard when you sell it.
Alot of hassle and you'll never be happy with it..
Alternativly, you can save up for these modifications, and just keep saving instead of wasting it on 'upgrades' and you'll have enough for a CSL in no time :smokin:

True, but my £5k worth of mods can be taken off and kept for a CSL or sold. Like I said, where I have been buying second hand, I shouldn't lose any money on things like the exhaust, cats, airbox etc.
My brakes needed replacing anyway (discs pads and calipers) so it made total sense to go down the Porsche Brembo BBK route. Again, this can be taken off and sold/fitted to a CSL.
I'm sure I will be happy with the mods fitted. Considering I was happy with the M3 as standard, I am just making small improvements to make it even better!!
At £22k-£32k I am not realistically going to be able to afford a CSL for a long time, unless I win the lottery, get huge promotion, marry a rich old woman etc! So for now, I can just dream! I am kind of lucky I haven't been out in a CSL, as I'm sure then my mind would change instantly!! As far as I know at the minute, my M3 is the best car I could ever own or drive. I'm not going out in a CSL and ruining that!! :hahaha:
