Just thought I would throw it out there but I think that the Porsche centre lock system on the 2nd generation GT3s is a bit of a pain in the arse. Wheel changes are not a cheap DiY job as specialist tools are required and a DiY may invalidate the warranty anyway. Think punctures.
Someone on Rennlist (I think) was looking at the cost of altering the hub to the old style five bolts system.

Yep, my friend who manages a hedge fund has one and changing the wheels
/ tyres is a dealer job.
Bloody stupid idea for a car that by its very nature will consume tyres. But then you can always buy them from the dealer:whistle:

You can get the tool and change them on your own, it's not exactly rocket-science.
Let's not exaggerate that only dealers can change the wheels.

The part is not cheap and apparently quite large so not the sort of thing you would want to carry around. Furthermore it is a two man job to change the wheels.
To me it presents more problems than it solves. Why would you want to buy something that presents a palaver?

Here is the tool
http://www.suncoastparts.com/product/36106902.html?Category_Code=997gt32whe
220USD is not SO expensive that any 997 owner won't be able to afford.
I don't understand why it is a 2 person job ?
I have to agree that it's not solving anything and presenting issues... most probably the reason was 'cool-factor'.

Presumably you need a monster torque wrench as well ?

This one you mean.;) Not to pricey either if you have GT3/GT3 RS purchase power.

Well I bet most tyre and roadside assistance don't have the tool. And as far as I know, you don't get it with the car- so for most it is the dealer!
Apart from looking cool and bragging rights down the pub, that seems to be where the benefit ends. Funnily enough I called Chris this afternoon and I mentioned this thread. He too is now having ye' old bolts put back on :hahaha:

Yes, you need to get the tool and torque wrench, 400USD all in.
As said, I agree it's not serving anything... other than wow-factor

How much is it to convert 'back' to to the more straighforward bolt system?

I'm liking that but i worry that the GT3 is going to be too much like the CSL and if it is i would have rather have kept the CSL and the cash in the bank.

And i've had my eye on this GT2 aswell

Might having something else in the pipeline also, Still a Porker but not a standard one.
Still thinking about a Gallardo but would want an e-gear and i keep thinking about what Lawsy said and i'm starting to defo head more towards the Porker.

Stu, I think for near bullet proof reliability plus ease/cost of servicing, pork is the way to go. I love the Gallardo but you absolutely know they aren't as reliable as the Porsche and they will screw you with servicing and consumable replacement costs.
Also, the Porsche will not stick out too much for unwanted attention of the wrong kind, where as the Lambo?;) That's all ok for a quick Sunday blast and then it's tucked up in the garage but to actually go somewhere and use it as everyday when your home, I would want something less obvious. Porsche does that well.
And then of course there's a GTR.
Choices hey mate? It's a killer.:smokin:

The White GT3 is stunning. Seen a couple around the office and they just look ace. Definitely on my list.

Hazy on here has one with a mint white wrap on it
Not sure it would suit as an all round car which is what i'm after and tbh not that keen on the whole Ferrari image and i bet the servicing costs are through the roof
