Dont flame me after the shed thread, but.....

Need a car for the missus...criteria:

Small hatch type thing
Economical engine
Auto (yeah, I know, I know)
Will only do ~2-3K miles pa - all town / local driving
Cost ~£6K ish

Was thinking something along lines of Mini, Panda, Fiat 500....

Thoughts welcome...

My 2nd car is a MINI, with 55kw (75PS) they call it eco over here. It's enough for going to town and 5mls to office. It's my 3rd MINI, and i still like it.

Me as well but I am now about to concern you even further.;)

My Mum has a Fiat 500, base model. She's done 1000miles in 2 years.:bigcry: I think I've driven it more than her!

This is the bad bit.

I really like it as a town run around and it's great fun to drive.:gayfight:Gets my vote.

Rob, feel free to smack me across the head next week but I'll have to punch you back because you are just as enthusiastic about the Yaris.:clown:

My mum has a Hyundai i10, it's suprisingly a very good car for the money! Quite decent spec as standard too.

If age of the car isn't too much of a worry to you how about an Audi A3 2.0 Tdi?
A friend of mine (and actually a serial CSL owner!) had one until recently. We used it to go on our annual fishing trip to France last summer plus he lent it to me for a couple of weeks over here as well.
Much as it gauls me to admit it (because it's an Audi!)....but that car was very impressive!
It was actually quite fast, very easy to drive...and the fuel economy was superb! We got mid-to-high 60s mpg on the run down to the Dordogne. At one point, a few miles off the ferry with a full tank we were showing a range of over 800 miles!!!

By comparison...Last few days I've been forced into driving my 840Ci Sport to and from work. On relatively short journeys 'here and there'...what a nightmare! It's already nearly guzzled all of the £50 of that Tesco 99 Octane stuff I put in just yesterday afternoon! :bigcry:. I drove home tonight seriously wishing I'd bought the Audi A3 off my mate! He flogged it for £5K.
