Another good weekend away

Thanks to Bounce (Bret) for picking me up from the station at Peterborough so I could collect my car, thanks mate

Thanks to Bounce and Yanto for allowing me to get some track time in :supz:
Ian I think it must have been the new cups and possibly not the brakes that increased the stopping distance :smt100

It was good to meet some new faces :smt039 and old ones, if I didnt manage to say bye sorry, you must have been out on track ;)

I would like to thank everyone for welcoming my son and giving his some good laps

He had a really good birthday :)

his awards -

best driver
Shimmy
closely followed by Dunc

funniest driver Dunc

he says thanks to everyone who took him out :supz:
the ones I know who took him out,

great track by the way :supz:

Jim pm me with the damage for the room and meal.
Did you wait a bit longer to accelerate out of the corners when I left or did you keep to seat of the pants stuff :hahaha:
I will get the truth from Matt

It was an epic day of win :)

I did my best to try and give Shimmy the best bit of footage ever - 130mph coming up to Riches, a Late brake with a Capital 'L', decided it was "now or never" on the turn in, then 4th gear drift round the corner with my rears hanging over the green "bonus track". Probably a bit of mud too :-)

After that I stopped trying to outdrive you guys on cup tyres :D

Awesome day and fantastic track. Can't wait to go again.

Oh, and on the way home my brother and I have both found our rear pads have gone :D

How were the Alcon's in the end? I've just brought a set so following your experiences with them closely! ;)

Sounds like the Cup tyres really do make the difference on track! will be interesting to see what the new Super Sports are like in comparison! :smokin:

Sadly my bulletcam has mysteriously gone mega out of focus. Not the sort of thing you check, so my footage is a bit rubbish.

Alcons (with carbotech XP10s front) absolutely fine, although if I do move up to cup tyres I think I might go for XP12.

hankook rs2 actually did ok, right enough though through riches/corham you can see other people with bigger grip levels and far less or no squeal. 7 laps was about it for me and then they just let go, very tail happy and understeerey.

Nick (tyre guy / mazda on track) praised the Federal 595RSR. Around £170 I think he said (265/35/18), vs the £157 I paid for RS2 and vs £232 for R888.

Good to hear!! where are you getting your Carbotech pads from then and how much? and does this mean you have a barley used spare set of RS29's?

Even at £170 those Federals are half the price of Cup's - might be worth a go!

Crackin weekend boys ! Once again, great banter, good company, boozing & driving (though at least 10 hrs between the last two officer..)

Couple of highlights...

Smac taking my car out and I pax...waiting in the pit lane...

Me: (flicking through CD's)....what tunes do you fancy then mate ?

Smac: (seriously, with a WTF look)...you are fookin joking right ?? :hahaha::hahaha:

and second....

I get a bollockin from steward back in pits after 3 laps for driving too quickly.....waaaaahahaha... (he claimed I overtook on a red flag......)

and third...

Seeing a 996 turbo shaking like a shitting dog round the corners as Steve hustled him in my motor....quality.....if it weren't for the red flag, that fooker would've spun for sure....:hahaha:

Thanks for the wheel changing / advice on the day matey - you're right about the brakes though.....time to move onto a BBK.

Good to meet you O'Neill and see all the old crew again - lets do another one soon.

My first (ever) outing on Cups.....epic

Fastest Lap 2m 10.74s
Vmax 135.14mph

I only recorded two sessions both in the afternoon as the vbox was bot working properly in the morning and just after dinner.

Comparing where i can my best times from 2010 on the old circuit i seemd to be close to the best at turn 1 Riches and at the Esses BUt the bomb hole i was lacking in grip for some reason and couldnt match last years pace

My best theoretical lap was 0.9s quicker nearly all found on a quicker end of Coram and up the Start/Finish line where i lost 0.5s

DuncanR
07-03-2011, 12:22 AM
In all my sessions best I could Vmax was 3 @ 127 mph and 1 @ 126, and Jim only got 128 mph...like I said Shim, yours gets away down the straight quicker in a drag race, hence the 135 mph , and its not that im coming out of the corner with a slower exit speed...maybe I need a new engine !!:hahaha: ... good lap time ... that would be the one when there was no other fooker out wouldnt it !!!????

just unpacked and plugged the little camera to download the few vids I took.. results....
vmax - god knows
best corner - none of em
theoretical best time - not as fast as Shimmy

Matt, I had to laugh at Dunc," there's canvas then steel so Im still good to go" :119::119::119::smt018

Made me feel a right girls blouse when I spotted Dunc heading off out on those again, I was 'surely you aren't going out again in them???':bigcry: big cahoonas mate

I banged out a 2:17 on the hankooks-of-win.

Not sure if everyone changed to slicks/cups in the afternoon or just get progressively better; in the morning I was doing the catching/passing and then in the afternoon it was all I could do to maintain a following distance.

Give me some cups or slicks and wow - it'll be an 'off' of spectacular proportions ;-)

Fantastic circuit though, truly epic. No need to trek to silverstone any more, this is just as good.

my vmax down the main straight was 128 also. Right enough Shimmy's motor does seem to have a bit of extra pull as he passed me on the straight without any lifting required. Whats the secret eh ;-)

Motor not faster, Oneills was as quick as mine, it was just making sure you take the corner onto the straight at optimum speed to get best top speed and braking very late under the bridge for the Esses

It was just noticeable that Duncan and Titan on some corners chose to go in fast but just means that you come out slower. Now sometimes it can be the right choice but when you have a long straight you are gonna loose out.

My driver of the day was Oneill. He was very quick even though he has has had the car a few weeks and his first CSL Trackday. It took me some effort to break his tail and I think give him another shot and some full Cups and suspension and I won't be able to.:bigcry:Let's just hope he doesn't keep talking about S2000s :smokin:

it took me a few sessions to get some of the old corners up to speed and all afternoon to get the new bit learnt but still some to do

I think your Evo could post better times for sure, youd monster the middle section but i would have fun watching you on Coram, going faster and faster and waiting for you to lift!

here is an example of what i mean, your fastest lap with slicks in blue and one of slower fastest ones 2m14s in green :smokin:

look at the entry shape and exit shapes this is true also of the Russell hairpin where you go in too hot and straight and end up off the power trying to keep it off the mud (3wheels3 tought me ll i know) - id love to do Donny again and see what ive learnt

Shimmy:thumbs:Fooking flying, your fast lap looked effortless, faster drivers just make it look as though they're not trying.

Post a vid up later following Titan for a bit just after lunch. I struggled with the front end, more to do with my driving than the car, a bit more seat time should help though.

Did a 2:17 in the vid, had a bit of tuition after that then knocked 7 seconds off that time:whistle:ahem I lost that vid;)

My fastest laps are always my smoothest, try to go faster, get more on the edge, mess up a few corners and back to same time

I seem to be stuck at a certain level, tuition next for me I think

Shimmy - just watched your best lap, nice little video - shame about the wires but good to watch none the less! very smooth indeed.

O'neil - again, another good video and defiantly nothing to laugh at, nice and smooth lines!

It would be nice to see some videos shot from inside the cabin to see the kind of steering inputs you guys make. I just know watching mine back from Silverstone I didn't realise how much I was having to catch the back end - only small inputs, but still counter steering.

Anyone got any cabin shots?

Ha ha pissed, I think I won the prize for most pissed on Saturday, I was cringing a bit Sunday morning at breakfast, thinking I must have embarrassed myself some way.

@ Shimmy & Funtime :smt023 - Smooth, fairly. Quick, not so.

@ Lawsy - Tuition helps, you always learn something from it, even if it's a track you've driven before. I was joking about 7 seconds though!

The first corner I was taking as one curve, where as the instructor showed me to take it in two parts.

The Bomb Hole I was taking the wrong line, he showed me a better line, which got me on the power earlier.

One of the corners with No Name yet, I was turning in too late.

And Corum, at the entry I was braking and staying in 3rd gear, he got me to go in, in 4th and take a wider line.

Nice video Shimmy, thanks

Thats kind of what I expected to see, very smooth with just a couple of catches - to be fair the video I was comparing it to of mine is in the wet with rubbish tyres so most of my inputs were to compensate for this.

Very annoyingly though, that's the second time today a photo/video of your CSL has shown an idea that I had for mine done on your car which I've not seen before.

1. White Michelin writing - don't know how you've achieved this but it looks awesome and only yesterday was I going to suggest Rob does it on his BBS'
2. Yellow stripe on the steering wheel TDC, was one of the first thing's I was going to do to mine and had not seen it done on a CSL before... until now :bigcry::hahaha:

NorthernJims first ever laps in a CSL. Vid shows his fastest lap of 5 completed, time 2:17. Previous lap times were :-
1st lap 2:50
2nd lap 2:25
3rd lap 2:21
4th lap 2:19
5th lap 2:17

If he had of kept going he would have gone under a minute !!!:hahaha:

But they look a lot better when I have the black rims on for the road so its a toss up between road/track
