I am just about to change my rear pads on standard OE brakes. Can I push the piston back into the caliper like you can on the front brakes or will I need a special tool to screw the piston back in?
Cheers guys

I'm 99% sure you'll have to wind the piston in using a caliper wind back tool - you can get them from Hellfords though around £15
Saying that it's possible to do it without the tool, just a lot easier with...
Hope that helps ;)

You're thinking of VAG stuff mate ;) :hahaha: The O.E. BMW wrongness just pushes back, like the fronts. Using the old pads to lever against makes the whole job a doodle

I have had far to many VAG cars that's for sure ;) this is why I don't gamble - I was 99% sure but still got it wrong :hahaha:

Thanks guys. :). I always find levering off the old pad quite difficult. I use a G Clamp instead - clamp between the old pad and caliper (using a block of wood against the caliper so not to damage) then gently tighten the clamp driving the piston back in.

Very tidy, I've had 7 mk2's now including a few G60's and a Rallye, awesome little cars.
This was the last one I built - same colour royal blue as yours looking at that photo...

Mine comes with the original Invoice dated 27/10/88 from Dovercourt Battersea for £16 543.38 with every option box ticked

I've stop counting after my 10th MK2 (most of them 16V KRs :smt055 ) Not had any G60 but came very close to owning a MK2 Rally until a pre purchase HPi check revealed a stolen VAG :(
My current 16V KR is Helios Blue and the car is totally O.E. now after two years of tinkering, including resorting back to O.E. ride height :bigcry: and fully working A/C system :smokin:

BTW that's a very tidy 1.8 T conversion
Pic below of my previous MK2 GTi 16V KR (also Helios Blue) owned & used back in 2006 as my Ring learner tool  120 Ring laps that year and it didn't miss a beat :smokin:
Right, enough of this GOLF talk or we'll get a :ban: for VAG overload ;) :hahaha: and I'll get the bollocking for picture whoring... again :hahaha:

How low was I :hahaha:
They are awesome car's but very underpowered - exceedingly boring in standard form... but stripped out with around 250bhp they are a different car all together
Mine was mint, had all the options including the uber rare Recaro's...

Love the racer - they do take endless amounts of abuse, I did 2 student gumballs and 30,000 miles in my first 16v Mk2 'the beast' and didn't even do an oil change :hahaha: they go on forever and ever!

They are good but not that good :hahaha: and won't go forever if you change your oil every 30K miles :banghead: ;) :hahaha: luckily the 16V KR engines are know to drink a bit of oil when they are used properly  so frequent oil top ups constitute a constant supply of fresh oil  On my " Ring Learner " I use to change the engine oil & filter every weekend as the used oil was so saturated in fuel, I was in two minds whether to recycle it in the fuel tank ;) :hahaha:

That's exactly what I mean :hahaha: never did an oil 'change'. I ran the 9A 2ltr bottom end on mine which was rebuilt so it didn't use that much oil at all. Never managed it round the ring though for one reason or another :bigcry:
On the other hand I used to know out gearboxes and CV's all the time, nearly put RAC out of business as a student :hahaha:

The oil on the KR engines is lost / vapourised through the 16V head, not the bottom end. My friend runs a MK Jetta 16V GTi with fully rebuild 9A 2 litre block with KR 16V heads running conservative 180 BHP and his one uses oil as mine did. They are just heavy breathers :smokin:
:hahaha::hahaha::hahaha: about nearly putting RAC out of business in your Yoof :hahaha:
These MK2 gearboxes can't cope with extra power and it's why I left my "Ring Learner" KR engine alone and got it down in weight instead
