Anyone use one of these or have any experience of them?

Rockingham Racing School are selling of their used sets cheap at £150. This includes gps aerial, car charger lead, and cradle mount/suckers.

Are these worth having or is it just a fancy lap timer?

Would i be able to update the firmware/software of as i would not be the original 'registered' owner?

Brand new they cost up to £360 including VAT:

Some tracks are getting a bit anal with anything on a sucker mount, I wasn't allowed a teeny bulletcam on a sucker at brands.

These things have the gps receiver built in, so need to go under the glass really. Might be a ball-ache to try and mount it securely whilst achieving that.

These units have the additional GPS aerial lead allowing you to stick it to the car roof/'a' frame.

The unit itself could be placed on the centre console i guess.

Rob, I've used one for 3 years before Vbox Lite and still have it.

Like you say you can stick them away in the glove box or out of sight but still take a look at the lap times between sessions from the screen (having a screen even though out of sight whilst driving is one of the best things about the PB)

The data stuff is great as long as the GPS aerial is in a good position. at the ring and Spa you need it in god sight of the sky as with bridges and elevation you need to avoid drop outs.

It uses the revised Circuit Tools software released with the VBox lite so the data is totally transferable and comparable with anybody using VBoxs.

Basically if you like to look at data comparisons and have the time then it can help, especially comparing it with others data. Video does add an extra dimension but tbh data gives you 9/10 of the needed info

Very cheap and can't loose really.:smokin:

if they come with the 'cd' so you can use the performance tools software, then i think its worth it ( I have always liked pretty graphs :gayfight:)

Not wishing to thread steal, @ SHIMM or Nathan, but last nite downloaded new track .cir files for both Snett 300 and Sillystone Aren GP. When making a new scene, I discovered that I have only a few tracks in my library to use as track map elements, basically the tracks I have done as in Spa, Ring, and Sillystone southern. Im sure that previously I have scrolled through a whole load of them to use. Just did a complete firmware and software update last nite though, retained all my saved scenes.
@ Rob set the minimum speed on the PB to very slow mate .... or you wont record fook all !!!! :hahaha:

Yeah I noticed the lack of track elements following a recent update. Another quality controlled racelogic release ;-)

The data is useful its amazingly more so with the video (you often get traffic slowing you and it becomes obvious with video) however the videovboxes are KerChing !

is there a way to overlay my existing video with the vbox data somehow ( plus it only requires the keyboard skills of a dinosaur:clown:)

Yes it is possible and not very difficult.
I can develop a script to do this conversion.

Do you have any old .vbo files and the video you want to embed to them ?
If not, I can record something and try it on my own.

I've not got the vbox yet Alex - I am going to get one from the same place as Rob:beer:

I was just hoping that if I got one I could combine it with my existing cameras to good effect:thumbs:

I knew some clever chap would be able to sort it out:beer:

seriously tho @Shimmyracing - what extras does the full video box setup offer? multiple cameras?

I found out that there is no such solution in the net.

I had a quick check to the different files (simple vbox and video vbox).
It seems relatively easy to me.
I will try to get some measurements tomorrow in the neighborhood and a video with my simple digital camera and do some tests.
I don't expect it to be 100% synced but it will do the job.

By Sunday I should have the prototype working so stay tuned :smt063

PS : happy to share it with everybody for free // I am not here to make money, unlike others...

I asked the question of a Racelogic man at Silverstone last year and he said no...be interested to see if you can make it work Alex. Thought that once the vid was "burned" so to speak, that was that !

I know, terrible that whole capitalism business, who'd have thought that exchanging goods and services for money would ever catch on  Presumably you don't ask to be paid when you go to work either :gayfight:

What you are trying to do isn't hard, all the code you need to work it out is easily available, good luck with it

Getting it synced accurately will be tricky but you should be able to get it near enough manually to be usable if you knock up a little UI to allow the user to select the start frame of the logging in the video. I've never tried circuit tools with a different video format to the one Racelogic use - if that doesn't work there will have to be a transcoding step before the synchronisation step, should all be doable though if you are willing to put the time in.

Won't be idea for reviewing data at the circuit though if the sync and and potential transcoding steps take longer than about 30 seconds. Could always review just data trackside then add video when you get home though.

As for the PBox - bargain at £150 IMO.

Jim - if you want to be able to put speedo, lap times etc from the PBox data on existing video after the event for posting up on youtube etc then check out http://www.trackvision.net/

Cheers Nathan:beer:

that trackvision gubbins looks good, but as Big Steve has said it will have to be simple for me to use it:banghead:

I will see what alex comes up with first, but a cheap pbox + the trackvision software seems good to me:beer:

Nathan, I think you got me wrong here as I wasn't pointing at you.
You are running your business and that's absolutely respectable by me especially when you are doing generous discounts to cslregister members.

Anyway, I didn't want to cause any troubles again, even if I did.
I guess the answer is not to participate as I make the english group upset.
