I thought you were in for life with the CSL mate!?

All I can say is the Aston is a lot of car for the money but a totally different beast and experience in both ownership and driving to the CSL as I'm sure you're aware! Depends what YOU want...

I love the CSL.. but does my head in at the same time using it every single day, I know i'll miss it, nothing will be the same .. yada yada yada.. and will regret IF and it's a big IF I sold her ...

But fook me a lovely looking aston, all the comforts, a lot of proper car for the dosh..

Im off to drive one today at Lancaster and see what I think.....

That does look lovely, I must admit as the prices come down it does become a very tempting idea.

I have not owned it long, but I think I would miss the CSL as it seems to have that extra something for me I am not sure the V8 would have.

CSL - Keep it!!!

LOL I know what you mean about using it everyday, I've had to use mine more lately and everyday so far this week and it does do my head in too, crashing around these shit roads and dodging pot holes! :banghead:

DON'T go and drive the Aston as if you love it that's the first nail in the CSL coffin! :(

Everyone says the CSL is a keeper.
But most end up selling.

Daz- you dont do trackdays, you just get pissed@ the ring too;).

The CSL for me is a track car, no way could I live with it everyday.
And with your thoughts the way they are, you are on the verge of getting rid.

There are far better cars out there for what you do with the CSL imo, the aston probably one of them, (Aston are beautiful, but just dont float my boat)
That Aston is a fantastic fantastic GT car, perfect for euro jaunts and ring frolics.

I say try, you might just buy. Good luck

I have been looking at V8 Vantages as well. So much for your money but a completely different experience to a CSL. I have yet to drive one yet though as I'm scared I will want one right now! I drive my CSL everyday - do 8K per year for the last 3 years and find it fine as a daily driver. I have always loved Aston's and will definitley own one one day but I just know it won't feel like a special drivers car like the CSL and also at 29 I think I'm a bit young to be driving an Aston just yet!

Daz, nice car but think carefully and have a good long test drive. A mate of mine had a V8 Vantage and the novelty wore off very quickly. He found it dynamically flawed and although he was much more critical of the car than I was, I could see his point after several drives myself.

Fabulous to look at but I think you'll be out of it before very long.

No, no, no a 'comfort spec' GT3.... at least go for the sporty one with bucket seats and roll cage trackmeister or not. If I was you I would buy the Aston as a second car that way until you are fully into the "I am a retired 'loadsamoney' who plays a lot of golf" you can always switch back. After all where are you going to find another one as nice as yours?

One of that age would be a 4.3 wouldn't it ? They're certainly no faster than a CSL, if that has any bearing on your decision - which means these days a 335i probably gets pretty close on performance.

Don't care if it's .3 or 10mph faster or slower that's not the point :hahaha:

I've had a heap of fun in it, it's too harsh for the day to day duties I do in it, only because I've one too much and the clubsport KWs with race struts etc are superb for track ...but I'd rather be in my race car in a race than do track days now, true what people say once you've started racing and been in a full on series on slicks .. Any road car seems a tad ordinary ..

Hence the thought process of something fast / comfortable and useable .. And the Vant is a little bit diff not too many about ... Just an idea I'm bouncing around anyway..

Didn't drive one today, booked in tomorrow ;)

As much as i know the money from selling your CSL would help finance the next machine, i think you should hold on to her and fund the new car without the CSL having to go...

The CSL will retain good residuals and like a great mistress you'll always want to pop back 'into' her and immerse yourself in her CSL'ness

The Aston (whilst lovely and something special in it's own right) will be a superb fast yet comfortable daily car but it will never capture your heart like the CSL can and will lose value more heavily for sure as well as it's servicing/running costs added on top of that...

Just stop going to the 'Sugar Lounge' for six months and you could well have both cars! :supz:

Exactly the same myself, there is no way I could live with the CSL everyday and nor would I want to.
Daz I had a few nice every day cars before and tbh I dont think they are the way to go either. I hated the fact that I was using a car worth good money and it was getting every day abuse such as stone chips, shit inside, seats getting worn etc etc...Plus you got in at the weekend to go for a spin and there was just no joy at all, same as every other day :banghead:
After a few months should you go down this route I think you will agree.
No for me personally the best solution is a weekend toy and a joe average daily, getting a scratch or parking dent on a car that is not your pride & joy really is very liberating you know :hahaha:

Even driving a very nice motor all week, you still get that CSL grin factor when you finally get behind the wheel for a bit of fun. ;)

Daz, I'd stick to your plan. Get the CSL paid up, lay it up for fun days and buy comfortable (family ;) ) friendly motor for the daily runs. Plenty of reasonably priced fun motors out there that don't have to be boring. Or go super luxury and do the Chelsea tractor job.

I have to agree with most here regarding using the AM as a Daily Drive. I'm one of those recently that has put the CSL off the road during the winter and will only use it for Track days, decent days out, weekends and all that pish during the summer. It would be the same with an AM, Porsche etc for me anyway.

I do like getting in my crappy E36 shed, leaving it anywhere over night be it the town, multistorey car parks, mates flats etc and not having to worry about it. Imagine doing that with an AM. I'm not saying get an E36 or something shady (Not saying your E36 is in the lower league like mine Rob) but something common, efficient and all that balls to scoot about the doors and generally fcuk about in. You can also hide from people easier in something common and plain.

HOWEVER, I have to say most days when out and about I always wish I'd taken the CSL out the garage but there are times where I'm glad I've got the crappy car. Just my thoughts really.

My 2 peneth.......

Bear in mind that my CSL isn't my everyday car, it only comes out to play in the summer....so my decision isn't based on the same basis.

I had a good long test drive in a V8 Vantage. It is stunning to look at, sounds amazing, but the drive didn't match the sound and the looks. Don't get me wrong - it certainly isn't slow, but it isn't fast either.

The other main issue for me was the reflection of the dash on the inside of the windscreen - it was just terrible, I was really struggling not to focus on the reflection rather than looking through it. This would really bug me in the long run. My wife drove it and she found the same.

In the end, we bought an RS4 - similar V8 sound, but a more usable car with the added benefit of 4WD (which was a life saver this winter) and the RS has pretty much held it's money over the last 2 years (but I know I bought it at the right time at the right price, so there is some luck there).

For me, the CSL is one of a kind, BMW did their job a bit too well with this car. It still looks modern by todays standards and I just don't think I'll ever get rid of it - but I doubt I could live with it as my only daily car. The CSL is at the dealers having some warranty work, and when I parked it outside, there were 3 or 4 of the sales guys looking at it for ages - it's still got it despite it's age.

You would love the Aston........for about 6 months.
