View Full Version : Battery & Clamp

Hi Guys,

Looking for a bit of help if possible. I have removed the plastic cover to my battery and found that there is an aftermarket 065 battery fitted which I am going to need to replace as the breather vent is currently venting to atmosphere as it is on the wrong side of the battery , leaving the drain tube not connected. The next problem is that there is no clamp fitted, so the battery is being held in by its own weight and the terminals. Not ideal. I have been to BMW to purchase a clamp, but sadly this seems to difficult as their computer lists serveral styles of clamp and they are not sure which one will fit the CSL. Does anyone have a picture of the standard battery & clamp on the car that they could post so I can hopefully point them in the right direction?? I have done a search, but not found anything related.

Thanks in advance.

Ian

Here you go:

See in the 1st photo Rob, I see you have a wee female black socket too, running under the label on the thicker red cable. What's that for? I've often wondered.

I tried to copy the first photo but my wee 'Quote' button left the photos out, for some reason, grrrr!

Seriously though, I thought it might have been for some kind of aftermarket tracker/sound system or similar but since I've been in touch with the previous owner, I don't believe it was.

Any prizes for finding out what it's for?

That is the automatic cable disconnect to issolate the battery in a major crash. It's incase of fuel tank leaks and subsequent fire risk. A tiny explosive pulls the cable apart controlled by the airbag sensors/ECU.
