Funny how modern BMW's grow on you after time! I remember ripping the E9X M3 to bits when released and now......................

They are great cars ... and I believe over time people will realise how good these are. It will also be the last of the NA BMW M engines.

Our local BMW instructor has a race car of one of these and it's creaming all sorts of other cars left right and centre. Loads of potential.

Oh and they are a great daily drive!!

exactly the same alex! Thought it was bogging - which actually it is. It desperately needs better wheels and susp and the right colour. But the above and top gears comp pack looked the bollocks.

The build quality appeals to me. The e90 320d we have is in a different league compared to the CSL in those terms

Kinda what Im thinking, as I avoid the CSL sometimes for an easy ride. :gayfight:

Two things that put me off :
Getting ridding of the CSL - its my baby and would love to shrink wrap and it have it forever
Depreciation.. I like my wee depreciation-free-buble that Im in

I needed a practical family car so got this. Awesome fun for daily use. Would have loved the coupe but not good with 2 kids but to be honest it drives exactly like the coupe and the look has really grown on me.

If you've kept the csl so well so far then, I think you'd regret tracking it in any serious way, best to keep number one son happy with his inheritance tucked up and get another csl to track to death:smokin:

Agreed Jim. Nice. :thumbs:Not sure about the "Shade Glendog" wheels though.;)

In all seriousness however, a properly stripped, caged, tyred and set up E92 M3 would be awesome on track. Akra exhaust with a good mapp is an easy 450bhp+. Slimmed down to 1300kg's.

Having sold mine and replaced it with the CSL I can honestly say the E92 M3 is a much better 'all rounder' than the CSL but that is hardly surprising really.
The straight line poke from the E92 is very good, in many cases not far off my V10 M5 but and the engine note from the V8 is great. Another plus is this, the whole time I had mine, not one thing even a bulb give any bother. Compare this with the M5 which spent as much time sitting back with my dealer as it did on my driveway and it, IMO shows how good a package the E92 is.

However its horses for courses im afraid, 1k a month they were loosing when I got out of mine and there are loads of them over here. This was a weekend car for me and as such the CSL fits the bill much better and hopefully wont loose anything or very little in comparison plus you will always get a much greater sense of occasion or driving something a little bit special with the CSL.:smt055

i'm back in a csl after 12 months in a dct. 1 year cost me 10K. Great car and overwhelmingly a better daily drive than the csl. Thats all the praise i'll give it, my wife drove the dct but won't come near the csl!!
The csl is a driving experience every time you back out of the drive, the e92 isn't. £435 road fund licence is annoying not to mention the bonnet vent that fills with soapy water when you wash it. BMW really thought that one through.
Sorry about the whining to all E92 drivers but the csl is tops!!!

I can't offer you any advice on the E9x M3 as I've not driven one. A few folks I know have, and V10 M5's and when they get back into a CSL from the moment the sit in those seats, it's a different experience altogether.

Obviously nowhere near as exclusive as the CSL and as such, depreciate like a bastard! (How a bastard depreciates I don't know but some clever person will be along in a bit with a suitable emoticon/smilie or something) I have wee moment where I think about the E9x M3, only the other day I was looking at 4 doors, for when little ones come along in a couple of years but I just don't think it'll cut it where the CSL does.

As has been mentioned, running costs are a bit off-putting too one thing is the RFL before throwing fuel in her. Just seems a step in the wrong direction Bryce, sorry. But listen to the lads who have tried it, and come back. They know better than me.

A friend of mine has had a grey manual E9x M3 and now has the DCT Alpine Edition version (incidentally he was also the former owner of that famous/infamous cat D CSL that's been for sale for a while by its current owner! He's also owned two other CSLs).

I've had a drive of both and I liked them! I think I liked the manual car more as the dct version was almost 'too easy'! Very smooth gearbox. One could imagine driving them both on an everyday basis but they weren't as visceral as a CSL. But...and it's quite a big "but"....My! They do like a drink!

As for the experience though, assumign standard car to standard car comparison:

Brakes - E92 win
Handling - CSL win
Acceleration - E92 win
Motorway speeds - E92 win
Space - E92 win
Practicality - E92 win
Track - CSL win
Noise - CSL win (nothing beats it IMO even a Lambo)
Presence - Draw, those who know the CSL appreciate it, but E92 is more impressive from some angles.

Which is better? They are different cars IMO.

Neat summary! Would agree on all points within my limited experience of each! Well....apart from the track assessment...where I have no experience of either! LOL

Has anyone here had the opportunity to move from the E46 M3 CS to the E92 M3, or either way Audi RS4 to CSL/E92.

I have a CSL and E90 M3. Both are great for the reasons I have them. E90 is amazingly capable and very quick. With EDC dampers, DCT and the M button set up just so there's a setting for every mood. Even the stop/start function (new to the M3) works brilliantly.

However, when I get in the CSL it's shocking how removed from the action you are in the E90. CSL is thrilling by comparison.

Quite funny. Running in with 5500rpm limit still made something stupid like 120/125mph in top.:hahaha:
