Hi,

From the days when Money spent on
Touring Cars, was at times more than
F1.

The Merc 202 V6 engines which could be changed
in 15 minutes.

http://www.gurneyflap.com/mercedesdtm.html

The Opel Engine, really a Cosworth KF which
was a 2.5 ltr V6, weighed only 115Kgs would
rev to 10k plus and made 520 BHP.

The Opel Gearbox was a Tractive 4X4 system
that Opel could not buy, only Lease, and
the BMW E36 Super Tourer with the suspension
by Mclaren that was rummored to account for
most the cars 1mill each budget.

Sublime.

Hi,

If you can endure ''Tiff'', it gives
some perspective to it all.

The way they Yank the Merc
engine out and shove the new
one in is pure ''I told you it worked''.

Hi,

This is Markus Westefeld who has
just converted his Evo 2 Merc 190
to Klasse 1 spec.

Klasse 1 spec cars evolved from 1993/4
and were then fazed out for the Merc V6 202's,
just when the works budgets went into orbit.

Klasse 1 Merc 190, 2 car DTM team was circa 1-1.5 million
a year, then Merc 202 Klasse 1, 2 car team was circa
7.5-10 million a year !!!

These budgets were greater than most the F1 grid for
the 94/95/96 years.

And here is the car during shake down tests at the Ring.

The Hollinger Sequential gearbox has
a squeal all of its own.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjzz5lgg1dk&NR=1

These Merc Klasse 1 190's are incredible in that
you have a 2.5ltr l4 pot making just over 400 bhp
and reving to 10,250.

The BMW E30 M3 S14 l4 pot was 360 bhp and would
rev to 9,250.

Both engines 1200-1500 km then full rebuild.

Hi,

MattCSLnut- yes, the Alfa although top dog
just before the rule changes had its
engine set well forward so they could use
the g/box to drive the front wheels.

Made them more than a challenge to drive
as they dialled in enormus amounts of
oversteer to try and compensate for
the understeer.

Thus they would change direction in
an instant.

Here are some pics of the Cosworth KF Engine
which was badged Opel and used in the Opel
4x4 DTM Cars.

Some pics show where the V6 2.5 was used
by a Guy called John Bradburn in a Hillclimb
Single seater car, and of course Andy Burton
in the mid engined Pug 306 ran a Cosworth
KF, again from an Ex DTM Touring Car.

As this was from the Money no problem era see
if you can spot the lengths that Opel went to
to try and ensure success in then coveted DTM.
